After several decades of looking for true love and never finding it, aging model and lingerie designer, Alexa Ranger, has finally given up the search. A couple years ago, she got tired of the game completely and just stopped dating. Now friends and family keep her mostly content, so it’s shocking at 50 yrs old to find herself suddenly wanting a sex life again. It’s even more shocking to be attracted to a much younger man this time. She definitely thinks Casey Carter is sexy, but not handling her own age well, Alexa just can’t get passed their twelve year age difference to even consider a fling. Not that it matters anyway, anything resembling a normal dating relationship is totally out of the question because Casey is related to and living with her daughter’s boyfriend. The very last thing Alexa needs is yet another talk-show worthy drama in her already complicated life, no matter how amazing Casey’s kisses make her feel.
For a couple of years, 38 yr old, medically retired Marine, Casey Carter, believed his military injury had made him impotent. Having lost his wife to cancer, he hadn’t exactly been worried about the problem. Most days walking with cane was enough challenge for him. But now that he was ready to move on with his life, he had become more worried when none of the females his cousin brought around held any interest for him. So the last woman in the world he expected to start his engine revving again was the mother of his cousin's girlfriend. Even at fifty, Alexa is drop-dead gorgeous, and his libido certainly keeps reminding him she is the first woman he has wanted in a long, long time. Ironically, the more Casey gets to know and like Alexa, he finds out desiring the older woman is the easiest part. Jaded and cynical about love, Alexa is a difficult woman to convince of anything, but her kisses are all the proof he needs that they belong together. The former Marine decides his next mission is figuring out how to fit himself into her life.
I was in a bit of PNR/UF burn out mode, so I scrolled through my Nook library for something a little different to read and ran across Dating A Cougar that I downloaded months ago from the FREE section at B&N.com.
This fun and sexy contemporary romance was just what I needed to get me out of my “creature” funk. The writing was nicely done and the characters was fun, snarky and I found myself really caring about them and if they got their HEA.
Casey is a hot retired Marine in his late 30s. He can be a real alpha or as Alexa likes to call him, a caveman. But when it really counts he is sweet and caring for the people in his life. After he meets Alexa at his younger cousin’s house he can’t take his mind off the beautiful older woman.
Alexa is a sexy ex-model that turned business woman. She’s not dated a man in over a year but after shaking hands with the young Marine, she can’t stop thinking about him and the feelings he stirred up in her. She can’t believe that she is so attracted to a younger man. She tries to forget about him because of the age difference but her friends push her to play with Casey to see what happens.
Through out the book Casey has his work cut out for him trying to convince Alexa that her age is no big deal to him. He likes her and wants to get to know her better. Casey and Alexa gets all kinds of advance from their friends and family during the story. And there are some real fun scenes with those crazy friends.
Casey and Alexa really heat up the pages too. There is some smoking bedroom scenes but they are tastefully done (in other words, this is not a smut book LOL).
Dating A Cougar reminded me of a mature Sexy in the City. It was a fun and quick read; I plan on reading the next book in the series, Dating Dr. Notorious. Which is about Alexa’s friend, Dr. Regina Logan, doctor as in sex therapist. Think Samantha in the Sex in the City group.
After 17 years I've finally finished my BA in English (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not have touched anything labeled "classic", but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my college career.
While I hated to read growing up, I am now an avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction within my favorite (at least to date) genres which include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly PNR or UF from favorite adult authors, but I'm slowly stepping out of my comfort zone after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in adolescent literature class I took).
