Samhain approaches, bringing with it the final melding of the mortal and othernatural worlds. No one knows just how much power the night holds...

Violent murders occur in Paradise City as counterfeit comarr are systematically hunted. The police and the Kubai Mata have more than enough trouble to keep themselves

occupied. As war erupts at home, Malkolm and Chrysabelle head to New Orleans to recover the Ring of Sorrows. Chrysabelle is forced to make a life and death decision and will realize that her relationship to Malkolm may have fatal consequences.

The clock is ticking . . .

Bad Blood gave me multi storyline whiplash. I feel like too many of the secondary characters got too much face time.

  • Doc and Fi have their own problems which include Creek which was one storyline.
  • Then we get a storyline with the Mayor.
  • Tatiana is back with her own thing.
  • Preacher has a beginning of his own storyline.
  • Creek also has a budding storyline now that it’s clear to him that he won’t be apart of a love triangle with Mal & Chrysabelle

I needed a score card to keep up with it all.

I feel like the main storyline or at least the one I cared about didn’t get enough face time. Mal and Chrysabelle. I realize this is an urban fantasy series and the romance is usually stretched out but my nerves is also stretched out at this point. Yes they kiss. Yes they are both starting to realize they love each other. But I’m ready for them to get it on! (Maybe I’ve been reading too much UF lately and need to squeeze in a smut book)

Painter’s writing is excellent and I like her voice but at this point I don’t really care about most of the new secondary characters. I’d like to see us get back to the main characters and flesh out their stories more. I feel like Bad Blood gave me ADD.

With all my complaints aside I did enjoy the over all story progression in the series. The main key elementals was interesting. I just found myself skimming most of Doc and Fi’s parts. There’s just something about the couple I don’t like.

The main thing I like about this series is that the heroine is changing and growing. We see a much darker side to Chrysabelle and I can see her only getting darker. But will she be too dark as Mal is trying to be a good man? Can they meet in the middle?

I will be continuing the journey with the next book, Out for Blood. I have a feeling that the darker Chrysabelle we saw in Bad Blood will be even more bad ass as the series continues.

About Kristen Painter

A little about me: I’m a former college English teacher, but I’ve held a crazy mix of other jobs including maitre’d for Wolfgang Puck, personal trainer, and sales for Christian Dior Bijoux. On the writing side of things, I’m a two-time Golden Heart finalist and have been on the board of three different RWA chapters. What can I say? I like getting involved. I’m not adverse to bossing people around either.

I have a *slight* shoe addiction and occasionally indulge in an unnecessary handbag. Hah! That was a joke. There is no such thing as an unnecessary handbag. I love make up and jewelry and spa days. Yes, I’m a girly girl. But don’t think that makes me weak. I can (and do) kill off characters with the best of them. Speaking of which…

My forays into writing have been as varied as the jobs I’ve held. I’ve written poetry, articles for magazines, short stories, paranormal romances (that include fantasy, contemporary and steampunk genres) and now I’ve found a home with urban fantasy. I love worldbuilding and few genres give you the kind of license urban fantasy does.

I’m also the co-founder of the award-winning writer’s site Romancedivas.com.

I live in FL with my retired Air Force husband and a horde of feline dependents. I’m represented by The Knight Agency.

My name is Jennifer (not Jen!) and I live in the South. I coexist with my husband of 15 years, our 11-year-old son and two cats. I'm finishing my BA in English this Spring (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not touch anything labeled "classic" but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my courses. While I hated to read growing up I am now avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction with my favorite (at least to date) genres include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly paranormal from authors I read in the adult genre but I'm explaining after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in my college courses).
