WANTED: Single human female to join charming, wealthy, single male were-cougar for a night of romantic fun - and maybe more.

Me: The tall, sensuous, open-minded leader of my clan.

You: A deliciously curvy virgin who's intimately familiar with what goes bump in the night. Must not be afraid of a little tail. Prefer a woman who's open to exploring her animal nature. Interest in nighttime walks through the woods a plus.

My turn-ons include protecting you from the worst the supernatural world has to offer. Ready for an adventure? Give me a call.

Vampires and doppelgangers need not apply.

First Impression:

Beauty Dates the Beast is a fun, light and sexy listen from the beginning to the end that has me adding books 2 & 3 to my wish list.

What I liked:

Beauty Dates the Beast deliver’s on its title. I went in figuring it would be a light and fluffy listen, which is what I was looking for after a long urban fantasy reading/listening binge I’ve been on.

Jessica Sims does an outstanding job bring fun characters to life with a touch of sexy and mystery.

What I didn’t like:

The heroine’s name…. Bathsheba. Really? Since I listened to the book I thought for the longest the narrator was pronouncing it Bethsheba until someone called her Bath for short. Another thing that had me rolling my eyes was the fact that Bath was a virgin. But I after hearing about her and her sister’s life I guess it was a way of showing how much of Bath’s life she gave up to keep her sister safe.

The Narration:

Leah Mallach did a good job with the female characters but like many female narrators she didn’t do some of the male characters justice. But with the book being a light and fun read I think she hit the snark level just right. While she didn’t blow me away with her narration I’ll get her another try with the next book in the series before I discount her totally.

Lasting Impression:

What a fun shifter book.

Will I continue this series:

Yes. I’ve already added book 2, Desperately Seeking Shapeshifter to my wish list.

Would I read this author again:

Yes. I enjoyed Sims’ writing style and her ability to mix snarky lines with sexy.

I coexist with my husband of 15 years, our 11-year-old son and two chilled cats in the Deep South.

After 17 years I've finally finished my BA in English (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not have touched anything labeled "classic", but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my college career.

While I hated to read growing up, I am now an avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction within my favorite (at least to date) genres which include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly PNR or UF from favorite adult authors, but I'm slowly stepping out of my comfort zone after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in adolescent literature class I took).

  1. LOL What was she thinking when she name her heroine that! I can imagine the narrator saying her name for 8 hrs..LOL
Bad male voices always a big no-no for me, I have to enjoy the male characters, otherwise I find it very distracting. I guess I will just move this one to the read pile since I do like how the story sounds.

  2. This sounds good, but I think I will look for the print version, I am always looking for the funny paranormal reads. I am over the dark myself so whenever I see funny I dive for it, if I can find it. Kind of hard to find, cause not really a sub category tends to be lumped w chic lit and it is so not the same thing in my book.
