THERON-Dark haired, duty bound and deceptively deadly. He's the leader of the Argonauts, an elite group of guardians that defends the immortal realm from threats of the Underworld.

From the moment he walked into the club, Casey knew this guy was different. Men like that just didn't exist in real life—silky shoulder-length hair, chest impossibly broad, and a predatory manner that just screamed dark and dangerous. He was looking for something. Her.

She was the one. She had the mark. Casey had to die so his kind could live, and it was Theron's duty to bring her in. But even as a 200-year-old descendent of Hercules, he wasn't strong enough to resist the pull in her fathomless eyes, to tear himself away from the heat of her body.

As war with the Underworld nears, someone will have to make the ultimate sacrifice.

First Impression:

Marked had the misfortune of falling victim to first book in a series syndrome.

The Narration:

Elizabeth Wiley did an ok job with the narration. I felt like her voice was not well matched for the genre. Her voice was too stuffy for my taste.

What I liked:

I’m new to Greek Mythology so that was a fresh element for me in the PNR genre. Marked was full of Misos – half-breed, Argonauts – full blood, and demons. It was nice break from vampires and werewolves that flood the genre.

The heroes are not clear-cut good guys. The women are not weak and waiting to be saved by the men.

Naughton did a great job writing sexual tension and tensing you with almost sex, sex scenes. The actual sex scene was just as smoking as I thought it would be.

What I didn’t like:

The narration and plot just didn’t grab me and my attention kept drifting off. And I didn’t like the couple that much. I am looking forward to one of the secondary character’s own book which I hope comes up soon.

Lasting Impression:

While Marked didn’t blow my socks off I’m hoping it’s one of those series that will get better with the next book.

Will I continue this series:

Yes. I grabbed the next audio book cheap through a sale at audible.com and even though I didn’t care too much for the narration I’ll listen to give the series and narrator a second chance.

Would I read this author again:

Yes. I liked her characters and world building and I’ll give the next book, Entwined a try.

I coexist with my husband of 15 years, our 11-year-old son and two chilled cats in the Deep South.

After 17 years I've finally finished my BA in English (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not have touched anything labeled "classic", but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my college career.

While I hated to read growing up, I am now an avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction within my favorite (at least to date) genres which include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly PNR or UF from favorite adult authors, but I'm slowly stepping out of my comfort zone after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in adolescent literature class I took).

  1. I have this one for listen and review too. I’m just not sure about it. I’ll listen for a trip or two, then find myself moving on. I completely agree with your review. Great job 🙂
