After a tragic stint in the National Guard, Adam Connelly returns to Idaho and to Belle Haven, the animal shelter he owns with his brothers. All Adam wants is to be alone. Then he opens the door to the past and to the woman whose heart he once broke. Still gorgeous, still tough-as-nails, but this time, unusually vulnerable.
Holly learned the hard way to never depend on a man for anything. Now, of all men, Adam is the last one she wants to see, and the only one she needs. Her father has gone missing in the Bitterroot Mountains and she could use someone with tracking skills to help find him.
For Holly and Adam, each with their ghosts, a trek this desperate, this unpredictable, and this intimate will have its share of risks—including opening their hearts one more time.
RESCUE MY HEART is a sweet and sexy second chance romance between Adam and Holly.
Adam is the strong and silent type. He went into the army at a young age in order to stay out of jail and now he works with dogs, training them to search and rescue. He also works with his Veterinarian brother, Dell at his animal clinic teaching obedience classes.
As the men of the Animal Magnetism series slowly get grabbed up by their women there are less and less single men in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho and now Adam is front and center as the single hottie working at Belle Haven. Adam could have his pick of any female in town but he chooses to stay away from relationships. He is still dealing with PTSD from his army days and there’s one woman he’s never really gotten over.
I’ve got to say that I like Adam more in Dell’s book (ANIMAL ATTRACTION). Sometimes this happens to me while reading a series. I really like a hero or heroine when they are a secondary character but then they fall a little short as the main character of their own book. I don’t know why I feel this way about Adam but something about him just didn’t grab me until about ¾ of the way into the book.
Holly on the other hand I liked. She’s a tough and independent gal that I liked from page one. She’s never gotten over Adam leaving her in the middle of their teenage love affair to run off to join the army. She made the mistake of getting married at a young age and to the wrong guy. But she didn’t know that until it was too late. After returning to Sunshine after living in New York she runs into Adam who swore he would never return to Sunshine.
Holly goes to Adam for help to find her dad, that she believes is missing. The two get snowed in on a mountain while looking for her father and all those old feels coming rushing back. It was fun to watch these two reconnect and find their HEA.
There was a touch of suspense in RESCUE MY HEART and I’d love to see Jill Shalvis write a romantic suspense novel. I think she would be great at it. One more book in the series and I’ll be all caught up.
Karen White continues to work her magic with the people of Sunshine, Idaho. She brought Adam and Holly’s story to my ear buds in a very pleasurable way.
After 17 years I've finally finished my BA in English (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not have touched anything labeled "classic", but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my college career.
While I hated to read growing up, I am now an avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction within my favorite (at least to date) genres which include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly PNR or UF from favorite adult authors, but I'm slowly stepping out of my comfort zone after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in adolescent literature class I took).
