Playing house was never so much fun—or so confusing. With her boss on her honeymoon, Caroline’s working crazy long hours to keep the interior design company running—especially since she’s also the lead designer for the renovation of a gorgeous old hotel on Sausalito. So with her hotshot photographer boyfriend gallivanting all over the world for his job, she and Simon are heavy-duty into “absence makes the heart grow fonder” mode. Neither has any complaints about the great reunion sex, though! Then Simon decides he’s tired of so much travelling, and he’s suddenly home more. A lot more. And wanting Caroline home more, too. Though their friends’ romantic lives provide plenty of welcome distraction, eventually Caroline and Simon have to sort their relationship out. Neither wants “out of sight, out of mind,” but can they create their own happy mid-ground cliché?
RUSTY NAILED has put Alice Clayton on my go to list for fun and sexy reads/listens.
When we last saw Simon and Caroline they were going to see if they could make a long distance relationship work. Long distance in that Simon travels a lot for his job as a free-lance photographer while Caroline stays put in San Francisco for her job as an Interior Designer (not decorator!).
Their relationship is not a conventional one and that works for them. Until Simon starts staying home more. And that only adds to the pressure that Caroline is feeling from work. Sure Caroline wishes Simon was around more but she understands his job and loves her alone time. Now that Simon is more available, Caroline is the one that’s away for work. See her boss Jillian has decided to take a very long honeymoon. Seriously there is no end to this honeymoon where Jillian and her now husband Ben are global trotting around Europe while Caroline runs Jillian’s design firm.
Caroline being the independent woman is trying to do everything herself without help. She’s working long hours to keep the firm going and when Jillian calls for updates Caroline won’t let Jillian know that the pressure is too much.
While Caroline is working these insane hours Simon seems to be a man of leisure and its bugging Caroline a little as he keeps turning down photo jobs. It’s clear that the couple is in different places in their professional lives and it’s starting to affect their relationship.
RUSTY NAILED has a more “grow up” feel to it and a little less humor but there are still plenty of laughs to be had and it’s great to see Caroline and Simon work through their issues to find a realistic HEA. And Clive of course has his own adventure.
Heather Smith continues to be the right choice for this series. She’s perfect for Caroline and her male voices have grown on me since Wallbanger. They’re still not masculine enough for my personal taste but they work with her performance.
Next I’m going to give Clayton’s Redhead series a go with book 1, THE UNIDENTIFIED REDHEAD.
After 17 years I've finally finished my BA in English (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not have touched anything labeled "classic", but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my college career.
While I hated to read growing up, I am now an avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction within my favorite (at least to date) genres which include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly PNR or UF from favorite adult authors, but I'm slowly stepping out of my comfort zone after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in adolescent literature class I took).
