Shea Montgomery’s Holiday Honey-Lemon Bourbon

Shea Montgomery from Hanna Martine’s The Good Chase shares a holiday drink with us today.

Hi, my name is Shea Montgomery, and you may know me from the History Channel. Or, if you’re an insomniac, from one of several other cable stations airing wee-hour specials about whiskey. Or, if you’ve visited New York City and made your way down to TriBeCa to my whiskey bar, The Amber Lounge.

Or you may just like alcohol. Like I do.

I like it so much my nose and mouth were practically made for it. *waits while you get the inner dirty jokes out of your system.* But not just any alcohol…whiskey. And if you’ve been to Scotland, as I have many times due to my lineage and upon invitation of my dear, departed Granddad, you’ll know that Scotch is gold.

With the holidays approaching, I have to say that I think whiskey is the perfect seasonal drink. Mint Juleps are to summer as a snifter of bourbon, neat, is to winter in front of a fire as the tree twinkles in the corner.

Someday I hope to produce my own whiskey, but until then I’m content to drink others’. I found this organic distillery in Chicago called Koval, and in addition to whiskey they make specialty liqueurs. One of them is Chrysanthemum & Honey. I was playing around in the kitchen one day and stumbled upon this drink. Here it is for you to share with your loved ones…or to just hoard for yourself and get nice and toasty as you stare into those crackling flames.

Shea Montgomery’s Holiday Honey-Lemon Bourbon

  • A good shot of your favorite bourbon
  • A solid splash of Chrysanthemum & Honey liqueur
  • A dash of Angostura Bitters
  • A squeeze of fresh lemon
  • Stir and serve over ice

Want to know more about me, my crazy-cool job, and the incredibly hot rugby player who tries to steal my heart when I’m not ready to give it away? I hear there’s this author named Hanna Martine who wrote all about it. You should check the book out.

Even though Shea Montgomery’s swanky bar and distinguished palate have made her a highly regarded whiskey connoisseur, she’s happiest bringing her favorite spirit to various Scottish Highland Games around New England. Her demanding ex made her wary of men obsessed with money and status, and she’s now more comfortable in the country than in the city. Still, when a gorgeous rugby player straight from Wall Street barrels into her whiskey tent, she’s tempted to change her mind. J.P. Byrne has no idea how to prove to Shea he’s more than his three-piece suits—especially when he’s spent years doing just the opposite. But as they battle old demons, they discover together that the best remedy for past pain is a good, stiff shot of present pleasure…

I coexist with my husband of 15 years, our 11-year-old son and two chilled cats in the Deep South.

After 17 years I've finally finished my BA in English (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not have touched anything labeled "classic", but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my college career.

While I hated to read growing up, I am now an avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction within my favorite (at least to date) genres which include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly PNR or UF from favorite adult authors, but I'm slowly stepping out of my comfort zone after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in adolescent literature class I took).

I rarely drink alcohol myself, but it sounds like a good story. This time of year, I usually like peppermint cocoa, wassail, or apple cider.

  2. Spiked Cider, which is just hot spiced cider with rum. And I love Celestial Seasonings Nutcracker Sweet & Candy Cane Lane Teas

  3. Awesome post! I got really into it before I realized I was reading about a character – what can I say, I like my drinks! (my favorite BTW is an Italian margarita on the rocks with a sugar rim). Anyway, definitely adding to my tbr!

I love this series! Thanks for the recipe, I can’t wait to taste it. I can relate to Shea, with my Scottish background, my father taught all us kids to appreciate Scotch – it is a great winter evening sipping drink.
