We’ve had so much fun with the Audiobook Challenge so it’s coming back for 2015! Join The Book Nympho and Hot Listens for the 3rd year of great audiobooks.

Audiobooks are great for those times you want to read but can’t for some reason like driving, doing chores, working out, or if you’re one of the lucky ones like me, listen to them at work.

I know some of you are thinking, audio books? Pass. I thought that once too. But when you find a great narrator they can make the story even better. There are some series I will only listen even if I can get the Arc I’ll wait until the audio is available because the narrator does such a great job bring the book to life.

Reading Challenge Details:

  • Runs January 1, 2015 – December 31, 2015. You can join at anytime.
  • The goal is to find a new love for audios or to outdo yourself by listening to more audios in 2015 than you did in 2014.
  • Books must be in audio format (CD, MP3, etc.)
  • ANY genres count.
  • Re-reads and crossovers from other reading challenges are allowed.
  • You do not have to be a book blogger to participate; you can track your progress on Goodreads, Shelfari, Booklikes, Facebook, LibraryThing, etc. – I’ve created a Goodreads Group for the challenge, feel free to join.
  • If you’re a blogger grab the button (on the sidebar) and do a quick post about the challenge to help spread the word. If you’re not a blogger you can help by posting on Facebook or Tweeting about the challenge.

By request, a new level (Marathoner) has been added this year for the hardcore listeners and the numbers for My Precious has been changed from 30+ to 30-50.

  • Newbie (I’ll give it a try) 1-5
  • Weekend Warrior (I’m getting the hang of this) 5-10
  • Stenographer (can listen while multi-tasking) 10-15
  • Socially Awkward (Don’t talk to me) 15-20
  • Binge Listener (Why read when someone can do it for you) 20-30
  • My Precious (I had my earbuds surgically implanted) 30-50
  • Marathoner (Look Ma no hands) 50+

We’ve decided to go back to having quarterly updates to help keep everyone motivated and to snag new participants through out the year. There will be posts on the following dates for you guys to check in to let us know how your listening is going for 2015.

Update Schedule:

  • March 27th: 1st Quarter Update
  • June 19th: 2nd Quarter Update – Giveaway included
  • September 25th: 3rd Quarter Update
  • December 18th: 4th Quarter Update and Wrap – Giveaway included

My name is Jennifer (not Jen!) and I live in the South. I coexist with my husband of 15 years, our 11-year-old son and two cats. I'm finishing my BA in English this Spring (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not touch anything labeled "classic" but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my courses. While I hated to read growing up I am now avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction with my favorite (at least to date) genres include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly paranormal from authors I read in the adult genre but I'm explaining after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in my college courses).

Going to try at the Newbie level but will hope to do better.
I have posted a link to FB and entered the Goodreads and Shelfari groups

  2. I sort of feel bad jumping on this one… especially since I started the “Sound Off” series. But I suppose that does set my goal of at least 50 audiobooks for the year. (Since I started about two weeks in.) 😉

  3. I have never actually listened to an audio books outside of school when you’re forced to sit there and pretend to listen while actually dosing off. I really want to give audio books a try this year. I just found out that my library has them available on overdrive! I’ve used it for e-books but never realized it was more than that. Hoping I can create a love for audio books that correlates to a want to work out. (that’s the only real time I have to listen)

I’m going with “Stenographer (can listen while multi-tasking) 10-15.” Hopefully I can find something good to glom and beat my 2014 total of 20 audiobooks.

  5. I have A LOT of unlistened audiobooks sitting on my audible app because I sort of gave them up the last couple of years, but I want to come back to them this year! So thank you for this challenge!! Especially since I’ll be able to crossover for other challenges. 🙂

  6. I just started listening to audiobooks last year. Previously, all my attempts have resulted in hating them due to bad narrators. But…like you said…with the right narrator the book is even better! So now I always make sure I listen to a sample to make sure I’m going to love it. I’m making a stretch goal of Socially Awkward, since I think I can listen to 1-2 books per month. Thanks so much for coordinating and hosting!

  7. Just linked up! This is my first year, and I’ll be going for the newbie level!

Another free resource for those who like classics is which is a site where volunteers narrate public domain books (like Project Gutenberg, but for audio). In general the sound quality isn’t as high as you might get from a professional production, but there are some gems in there!

I’m in! Jen Twimom got me into audiobooks and now I’m seriously hooked. I’m going for Stenographer to start since I have no idea how many I will get through. Though, I should be able to do it if I only listen while I workout at the gym. This sounds like such fun, thank you!
