A teenaged girl’s tragic death appears to be an accident until Criminal Investigator Cage Foster discovers evidence of a hit and run.
Cage’s investigation reveals more than one person might have wanted the young girl dead. As Cage navigates through the web of lies and anger, a break finally comes. But just as Cage is ready to set a trap for a killer, his world is turned upside down.
With his unborn daughter’s life hanging in the balance, Cage must decide between his family and finding justice for an innocent victim.
These short stories centered around Cage and the other members of his law enforcement team are really working for me.
Criminal Investigator Cage Foster is called to an accident scene that looks suspiciously like the victim might have had some help getting killed. His fiancée, Dani, is close to term with a complicated pregnancy so he’s stretched pretty thin.
This case was tragic because the victim was a teenager. The investigation proceeded rapidly as Cage has become adept at sifting through clues and using the resources around him. However, even he was caught off guard by a serious twist near the end. And, Dani’s pregnancy comes to a close!
As with the other stories in the series, this one is skillfully crafted. The procedural is well done, the characterizations set up deftly and the mystery really interesting. I’m loving the experience of settling in to a story with characters I’ve come to like intensely, deducing the case and finishing in a couple of hours. And, it manages to address some serious social issues along the way. Well done.
I also love to talk about books. There’s nothing more exciting than to finish a great story and cover it A to Z with other people, exploring different perspectives and points of view. So, if you see something on my shelf you’d like to talk about, send me a message and we’ll talk!
