When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate—and prized—parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Louboutins.
When Kennedy looks at Brent, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue–worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school in order to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell for her.
But she’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore—she’s a Washington, DC, prosecutor with a long winning streak. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case, and Kennedy thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own.
But things aren’t exactly working out the way she planned. Brent has his sights set on Kennedy, and every fiery exchange only makes him want her more—and makes her wonder if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. In the end, they may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court.
I just know going into an Emma Chase book that I’m going to laugh, get turned on, and reach for the next book when I’m finished.
Appealed had two of my favorite romance tropes; friends to lovers and second chances. Brent is the last in the group of friends in The Legal Briefs series to get his HEA. And like so many playboys before him, he swore he wasn’t going to settle down with one woman. But when the love of his life comes back into his life after being gone for fourteen years, he’s singing a different tune.
Brent spots a beautiful woman at a family party and wonders who is she and how fast he can get her undressed. Then he finds out that she’s the girl who lived next door, Kennedy. He is floored by how different she looks. But she’s his Kennedy under the makeover.
Kennedy and Brent face off in the courtroom and the bedroom in Appealed. They love to pass barbs at each other and when their past gets the best of them in court one day, a judge makes them go out to dinner with each other to clear the air.
I touch my chin. “I grew a beard.”
“Well ungrow it. It looks like a vagina from a 1970s porn film.”
Brent and Kennedy’s story is heartbreaking, sweet, sexy and very satisfying. I love it when the guy/girl gets their crush and when that crush turns into being the love of their lives it even better. Watching these two people who can’t or won’t settle down with someone because they were so hurt by the other one when they were a teenager is heartbreaking and when they finally realize that the reason they couldn’t be happy with anyone else because they never fell out of love is priceless.
I’m sad that Appealed is the last book in the series but I look forward to reading the next book that Emma Chase writes. I love that she writes from the hero’s POV, it makes the humor so much fun to read. Appealed hit all my romance buttons but that extended epilogue earned it an extra star. And I hope that it leads to some additional stories in the future.
After 17 years I've finally finished my BA in English (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not have touched anything labeled "classic", but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my college career.
While I hated to read growing up, I am now an avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction within my favorite (at least to date) genres which include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly PNR or UF from favorite adult authors, but I'm slowly stepping out of my comfort zone after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in adolescent literature class I took).
