To Save His Family, She May Be His Only Hope
A Strong-willed Woman
Working for the shadowy division of the Grey Justice Group is the perfect job for Kathleen Callahan. Compartmentalizing and staying detached is her specialty. Get in, do the job, get out, her motto. Wealthy businessman Eli Slater is the only man to penetrate her implacable defenses and she fights to resist him at every turn.
A Tenacious Man
Eli Slater has worked hard to overcome his family’s past and repair the damage they caused. A new light comes into his life in the form of security specialist Kathleen Callahan. Even though she rejects him and everything he makes her feel, Eli is relentless in his pursuit, determined to make her his own.
An Evil No One Saw Coming
Darkness has a way of finding and destroying light and Eli learns his family’s troubles are far from over. Dealing with threats and attempts on his own life is one thing, but when those he loves are threatened, it’s a whole new game. And he’ll stop at nothing to win.
But evil has a familiar face, along with an unimaginable goal of destruction, putting both Eli and Kathleen in the crosshairs and threatening the happiness they never believed they’d find.
Kathleen Callahan joins the Grey Justice Group as a security operative following a personal traumatic event and is assigned to work with Eli Slater. After the fall of his father and brother, he’s receiving death threats that include his two young daughters so he hires Kathleen to protect them. She has no idea that Eli orchestrated all this from the first moment he saw her.
I was glad that the saga regarding the Slater family continued in this story as there was so much unfinished business from the earlier book. The mystery surrounding the threats against Eli and his girls was puzzling and I enjoyed trying to unravel and solve it. Eli and Kathleen are strong, admirable characters, both with heartbreaking histories. Grey Justice continues to be an enigma and I’m dying to read his story.
I really like this series and story, especially its premise and characters. While they have noble objectives, they also have lots of flaws and imperfections…a perfect recipe for intriguing and interest stories. This wasn’t as suspenseful as the first book but it still kept me just as engaged. There are a couple of storylines left unresolved (no cliffhangers) so I’m definitely looking forward to the next book.
I also love to talk about books. There’s nothing more exciting than to finish a great story and cover it A to Z with other people, exploring different perspectives and points of view. So, if you see something on my shelf you’d like to talk about, send me a message and we’ll talk!
