The Sultan’s Palace is one of the most horrific tales of New Orleans’ historic French Quarter. The Sultan, a Turkish man who lived there in the late 1800s, is said to be seen staring down at people on the street from the third-floor balcony of the house nicknamed The Sultan’s Palace. On most nights in the French Quarter, haunted tour groups traipse past the majestic house while tour guides weave tales of mass murder, thieving pirates and jealous brothers…but none know the real truth.

Sierra is spending her twenty-first birthday with her best friend in New Orleans. It’s Halloween and what better way to celebrate the night than on a spooky haunted tour? Sierra has to have the whole package though, and with her best friend leading the way, they find a costume shop down a dark alley and a mysterious shopkeeper who has the perfect costume for her. She doesn’t want money though, only a favor, help the one that asks. Clothed in a breathtaking costume, with a mysterious key around her neck, Sierra goes on the haunted tour and quickly forgets the strange shopkeeper, especially as she strikes up a conversation with Owen and sparks begin to fly. She doesn’t remember the words of the shopkeeper until someone asks for help…and the key around her neck opens the door to the Sultan’s Palace.

What drew me to The Haunted Sultan? Gillian Zane. I’m loving her NOLA Zombie series and needed to read more of her work.

The Haunted Sultan is a story about two BFFs visiting NOLA to have a little fun. It’s Halloween time and everyone is in costumes but Sierra. She and her friend Cecilia find themselves in a shop looking for a costume for Sierra. That’s where the supernatural part of the story starts. While the two girls are on a ghost tour, Sierra starts up a flirtatious conversation with Owen, a cute guy on the tour with his friends.

Owen and Sierra find themselves drawn to one of the houses on the tour. They are the only ones that hear the help call from the Sultan. Things start to get sexy and horrific from there. Sierra and Owen help the Sultan get free from a Jinn that has had him trapped for hundred and fifty years. This Jinn has murdered people over the years in this house by casting a lust spell on it to lure people into the house. They stay and in a lust filled trance and never leave.

The Haunted Sultan is only one of twenty-eight stories in the Skeleton Key “series”. Each story is a stand-alone with a HEA.

About Gillian Zane

Gillian Zane is the author of the NOLA Zombie series. Zane is the pen name of a prominent blogger in the publishing industry, which will remain a mystery unless you Google it. Since she can remember her goal has been to become Master of the Universe and has decided to focus first on the literary world. Things are progressing nicely.

Zane has been a freelance writer for the last ten years and has published a few non-fiction works, none of which was very exciting. Zombies are much more exciting and a way for her to combine her two current obsessions, hot boys with guns and Doomsday Prepping. When she isn’t stockpiling MREs (Meal’s Ready to Eat) or researching how to build a cistern on a budget, she’s taking care of her little family and exploring the city that she loves, New Orleans.

I coexist with my husband of 15 years, our 11-year-old son and two chilled cats in the Deep South.

After 17 years I've finally finished my BA in English (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not have touched anything labeled "classic", but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my college career.

While I hated to read growing up, I am now an avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction within my favorite (at least to date) genres which include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly PNR or UF from favorite adult authors, but I'm slowly stepping out of my comfort zone after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in adolescent literature class I took).

    • They are all novellas and they are not connected like a true series so you can read one or a couple or all. There are a couple I’ve put on my TBR to read some day.
