Talking Between Reads (TBR): Intimidating TBR Tag

Talking Between Reads (TBR) is a monthly discussion post where we talk about different topics from books to blogging and anything else we think you guys might enjoy. Stop by for new topics.

After watching Francesca’s video from Under the Covers Book Blog on the Intimidating TBR Tag I thought I would answer the questions myself for this month’s TBR post.

1. What book have you been unable to finish?

I DNF The Accidental Human by Dakota Cassidy. I just don’t like Wanda & Health as characters much less care about them as a couple. After listening to about 40% of it I decided to stop and skip to the next book in the series since the H/h were not my favorite characters.

2. What book have you not read because you don’t have the time?

Too many to count. I have a HUGE TBR of books that I actually own that I’ve not read or listened to. I put myself on a book buying band two years ago and I’ve done pretty well. I have bought a few audio books here and there. But I’m trying to read and/or listen to the books I already own before buying more. The real problem is not having the time to read them all when I want.

3. A book you haven’t read because it’s a sequel

I received a copy of Luck, Love & Lemon Pie from the publisher. I wasn’t expecting but I was excited to get it. But I won’t read it until I read The Coincidence of Coconut Cake. They are marketed as stand-alone, but I asked Kimba from Caffeinated Book Reviewer if I could/should read Lemon Pie without reading Coconut Cake. She said it was best to read Cake before Pie. So that’s what I will do.

4. A book you haven’t read because it’s brand new

Heroine Complex by Sarah Kuhn looks like a fun read but I’ve been waiting to see if any bloggers I follow loved it before I grab it. I was shopping recently to use my Apple settlement money from B&N and actually had a print copy in my hand but put it back.

5. A book by an author you read previously but didn’t really like

Talk Dirty to Me by Dakota Cassidy is on my TBR pile even though I didn’t fall in love with her Accidental Series. I met Cassidy a few years ago at a book con and she is fantastic so I really want to like her books. I thought maybe a change in series might be the key for me. We’ll if it is once I get around to reading Talk Dirty to Me.

6. A book on your TBR pile that your just not in the mood to read

Savannah Vampire series by Raven Hart. I read the first book, The Vampire’s Seduction about six years ago so I’ve forgotten what the book was about. I know when I get to this series I’ll have to reread the first book, but since I bought the whole series on my Nook years ago I will read them. I remember liking The Vampire’s Seduction enough that I wanted the rest in the series but when I read vampire after vampire books I stayed away for a while.

7. A book on your TBR pile that you haven’t read because it’s enormous

I grabbed the ebook copy of Outlander a few years ago when it was free and then recently grabbed the audio. I love the TV show and want to listen to the audios but with it being nearly 33 hours it’s a little intimidating for me now with school work. So I plan on listening to it in December when I finish with school.

8. A book on your TBR you bought because of the cover

As I mentioned before I was in B&N recently using my settlement money and I wanted to get some books out of the romance genres. I was walking through the Science Fiction shelves and saw the cover for The Shotgun Arcana facing out and grabbed it. Why? It didn’t look like romance and it was creepy. Plus the word Arcana grabbed me, I love Kresley Cole’s The Arcana Chronicles. The Shotgun Arcana could also be my answer to #3 since it’s the 2nd book in the series. I grabbed it as well but the cover for The Shotgun Arcana is the reason I bought both books.

9. The book on your TBR you find the most intimidating

I don’t find books intimidating . . . but just looking at my TBR is intimidating because of all the books I own and have yet read. I have two shelves, one on each side of the bed that are three rows deep (picture below), not to mention the ebooks I have and audios. That is what intimidating. I have enough books to last me for a couple of years.

After 17 years I've finally finished my BA in English (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not have touched anything labeled "classic", but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my college career.

While I hated to read growing up, I am now an avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction within my favorite (at least to date) genres which include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly PNR or UF from favorite adult authors, but I'm slowly stepping out of my comfort zone after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in adolescent literature class I took).

Great post, Jennifer! I didn’t realize Luck, Love & Lemon Pie was a sequel. Thanks for the heads up.

  2. I will totally do this on Wednesday! PS I think you might have a problem with the leading lady in Talk Dirty to Me. The second book has a couple I think you might like better

Welcome back Jennifer:) The only book I DNF this year so far is Mystic Warrior. I don’t like serial killer who prey on women, and I didn’t realize the book had that when I picked it up. My TBR pile has at least 10-11 books to get to. I am trying to find time to read them, but I also have school to fit in as well, so, only so much time and two of my current reads are a bit slow. I just keep everything moving. I picked up Splinter partly because of the gorgeous cover, and I mean to read it. I appreciate these posts.

  4. Wow. I’m glad I saw your TBR post in my twitter feed. When I saw it, I thought, I haven’t seen that in a while, let’s jump on over and read it. LOL

I know you’ve been busy with school but just want you to know I really missed this type of post from you. I’ll answer the questions in a blog post later. Welcome back TBR!

    • Thanks Dolly! Yeah we’ve made it a monthly feature instead of a weekly one. Running out of fresh topics and school taking up my time. LOL
