What could go wrong when you’re trying to unravel a decades-old conspiracy?

As the current queen of the Ashland underworld, you would think that I, Gin Blanco, would know all about some secret society controlling things from behind the scenes. I might be the Spider, the city’s most fearsome assassin, but all my Ice and Stone elemental magic hasn’t done me a lick of good in learning more about “the Circle”. Despite my continued investigations, the trail’s gone as cold as the coming winter.

So when Finnegan Lane, my foster brother, gets word of a surprising inheritance, we figure why not skip town for someplace less dangerous for a few days? That place: Bullet Pointe, a fancy hotel resort complex plus Old West theme park that Finn now owns lock, stock, and barrel. At first, all the struttin’ cowboys and sassy saloon girls are just hokey fun. But add in some shady coincidences and Circle assassins lurking all around, and vacationing becomes wilder—and deadlier—than any of us expected.

Good thing this assassin brought plenty of knives to the gunfight …

What can I say, Gin’s my girl! In Unraveled she shows the underbelly that there’s a new sheriff in town.

I love that Unraveled has Philly in it! He’s a likable character like Finn and can deliver the snarky lines and is great to have for back up. Gin is working to figure how who is in the Circle, a super-secret group that we hear about in the previous book, Bitter Bite. While the plot for this installment starts out in Ashland, Gin, and her posse take a weekend vacation to Bullet Pointe. Bullet Pointe is a western theme park and hotel resort near Ashland and Finn got the deed to it from his dead mother.

If you’re a fan of the series then you know that the Gin’s vacations always end up being action packed with bodies hitting the floor.

To me, vacation just means extreme danger in a different place.

Gin, Bria, Finn and Owen take a short road trip to check out the theme park/hotel that Mama Dee left Finn to see if they can find out more about her and the Circle. So, of course, they get into trouble and Gin steps up to save the day. Unraveled has all the key elements I’ve come to expect from the series; snarky humor, high body count, amazing food references, and answers to previous questions with a sneak peek into what’s next for Gin and the gang.

After 15 books in the Elemental Assassin series, Jennifer Estep manages to keep me entertained and coming back for more. If you’re looking for a fun and calorie laden urban fantasy series about an assassin with a heart of gold then pick up a copy of the first book Spider’s Bite. Please don’t let the fact that the series has 15 books in it, scare you off. They are fast and highly enjoyable reads. Even better, if you’re an audiobook fan you should experience them through the narration of Lauren Fortgang.

I coexist with my husband of 15 years, our 11-year-old son and two chilled cats in the Deep South.

After 17 years I've finally finished my BA in English (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not have touched anything labeled "classic", but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my college career.

While I hated to read growing up, I am now an avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction within my favorite (at least to date) genres which include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly PNR or UF from favorite adult authors, but I'm slowly stepping out of my comfort zone after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in adolescent literature class I took).

  1. I’ve been wanting to read this series for so long. But the first 2 books are never at the bookstore whenever I’m there

  2. Nancy C.

I have to admit I’m a book hoarder too. In fact The Elemental Assassin series is on my pile of “to be read”.
