Control
What you're breaking isn't some little, meaningless coupling. We aren't some casual screw, and we never were. Not from the first night. Not from the first time I laid eyes on you. You were built for me. I denied it as long as I could, but we were meant to be together. You are the sea under my sky. We are bound at the horizon.

Burn
Here's how it's going to be, goddess. Until you surrender yourself to me fully, I will not touch you. Until the world can know you belong to me, I will not kiss you. I'm going to be inches away, at your side. I'm going to whisper in your ear and put my breath on your neck, but the heat of my skin will not feel the shudder of yours until you commit yourself to me completely.

Resist
I looked down at him, with his tourmaline eyes and copper hair, and believed him despite my better judgment. I forgave him despite my misgivings. I loved him just because I did. My heart wasn't sensible or guarded enough. Not by a sight. I was a walking raw nerve ending of emotion, as if the years I'd spent away from men and sex had made me more emotional, more vulnerable, more foolish. I ran my fingers through his hair, feeling like the victim of a crime of consent.

I don’t know why I waited so long to list to the Sequence Two audio bundle in CD Reiss’s Submission series.  This set of stories about Jonathan and Monica is just an emotional rollercoaster that Sequence One.

I was as emotionally wrung out as Monica was listening to the Control, Burn, Resist. I found myself taking on the role of Monica, being both turned by Jonathan and wondering why she was willing to allow him to sex her up to get her to stop asking questions. Anytime I read or listen to a romance that has BDSM elements I wonder how much of those parts are real. Some sound fun, some sound naughty, some nice (having someone to take care of you) and then there were the parts that have me screams NO WAY IN HELL.

Monica and Jonathan’s story is so complex and addictive! I’m just as obsessed with their romance as they are with each other. I will NOT wait over a year to finish this series. In fact, I will continue it by the end of this month. I need a little emotional distance before starting Sing, Coda, Dominance: Submission Series Bundle #3.

Jo Raylan delivers another fantastic performance. This time, she is joined by Christian Fox. We get some chapters from Jonathan’s POV and that’s where Fox comes into the narration. He’s great but I must be honest that Raylan does a sexier voice for Jonathan. LOL Yes that’s right a female sounds sexier as the male character. Honestly, both narrators are great and they bring the Reiss emotional and sexy story to life.

This is not a romance. This is not a pat little ending about Jonathan and I riding off into the sunset. I knew I was never destined for that, but no one warned me about the pain. No one told me about the hurt. No one told me what I’d risk for him.

I’ll do anything to make it right. Anything. You think I won’t kill for him? You’re wrong.

I have to earn my happily ever after, and we have to survive it.

read it, track it is a way for me to track books for my reading challenges and the reviews will be super short.

Screw taking a break! I was so wrapped up in Monica and Jonathan’s story that I started Sing, Coda, Dominance audio the SECOND that Control, Burn, Resist ended!

OMFG Reiss wrecked me with this series. I was a mess during and after listening to this romance. And it is a romance, it’s not smut. Geez, the things that this couple went through and what they meant to each other.

I can’t go into details without giving away two major events but let me tell you that I was obsessed with this series. I could not stop listening or thinking about the story and characters. When I wasn’t able to listen (work and school) I was thinking about Monica and Jonathan as if they were real people and I wondered what they were doing when I wasn’t around. I may have failed a mid-term exam because instead of studying, I listened to their story.

About Jo Raylan

There is no shame in pleasure, or enjoying a hard-won happy ending.

Jo has extensive experience bringing the romance genre to life through her natural and intimate delivery, and commitment to the characters’ journey together.

Jo Raylan is known for engaging first person POV, credible delivery of male characters, delivery of suggestive humor, and deft handling of intimate scenes. Her voice has been described as “slow whiskey and chocolate,” and her work on the Submission series by CD Reiss was nominated for an Audie Award.

About C.D. Reiss

CD Reiss is a USA Today and Amazon bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up, she’s at the well, hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did give her a big enough ego to try her hand at books.

She’s been nicknamed the “Shakespeare of Smut,” which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she’s some sort of braggart who’s too good to chop a cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

I coexist with my husband of 15 years, our 11-year-old son and two chilled cats in the Deep South.

After 17 years I've finally finished my BA in English (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not have touched anything labeled "classic", but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my college career.

While I hated to read growing up, I am now an avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction within my favorite (at least to date) genres which include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly PNR or UF from favorite adult authors, but I'm slowly stepping out of my comfort zone after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in adolescent literature class I took).

  1. I am in love with this post. I can’t help it…I shouldn’t even be chiming in (totally taboo *gasp* ), but I am so honored and floored by your comments that I had to pop in to say thank you, and that I couldn’t agree more about this couple. It’s rare that I am so truly engulfed by a project, but Jonathan and Monica did it…I spent about a year with Monica in my head, and man do I miss her.

So glad you enjoyed this wild ride 🙂

  2. thats so awesome, I am glad you are enjoying the audiobooks. I really wish I could get use to them. The story sounds like it has a lot of intense emotion going on

  3. Lol! I may have failed a test or two because of great reads too 🙂 I’m most definitely putting this series on my audio list – sounds great and I was just saying (yesterday?!) that I needed to go Fox hunting because I really enjoyed his narration in Sugar Daddy. And yet the female narrator was better! So now I really want to listen! Great reviews 🙂

    • I have Sugar Daddy for review and now that I know Fox is in one of the narrators I’ll move it up on my list!

I feel like he narrates under another name because his voice was familiar or reminds me of another narrator.
