DON'T LOOK BACK
Under siege. That's how Ryker Jones feels. The Lost Bastards Investigative Agency he opened up with his blood brothers has lost a client in a brutal way. The past he can't outrun is resurfacing, threatening to drag him down in the undertow. And the beautiful woman he's been trying to keep at arm's length is in danger...and he'll destroy anything and anyone to keep her safe.
Paralegal Zara Remington is in over her head. She's making risky moves at work by day and indulging in an affair with a darkly dangerous PI by night. There's a lot Ryker isn't telling her and the more she uncovers, the less she wants to know. But when all hell breaks loose, Ryker may be the only one to save her. If his past doesn't catch up to them first...
Zanetti’s Blood Brothers series is a spin-off of her Sin Brothers series but don’t worry you can pick up Deadly Silence without reading the former series. There is some cross-over with minor characters and the background of what happened to both set of brothers but new readers won’t be lost and fans of the Sin Brothers will enjoy the connection.
Deadly Silence is a sexy, action pack, romantic suspense thrill ride.
Ryker and Zara have been having a casual ‘relationship’, the kind where when he’s in town she cooks him dinner and he supplies the desert. Zara has never had a no strings attached kind of affair before and she’s finding it harder and harder to keep it casual with in her heart when it comes to Ryker. He seems to want more too but before they can have ‘the talk’ about their relationship danger comes looking for them.
Ryker and his brothers are special (like the Sin Brothers). They have been genetically altered where they have great hearing, really good eyesight and a few other things. Unlike the Sin Brothers they don’t know all the things about their past and why they are the way they are. Instead of being raised in a military camp like the Sin Brothers, the Blood Brothers were raised in a group home where the same doctor studied them.
Deadly Silence expands on the world Zanetti built with her previous series but she does a good job with this new spin-off series where new fans can easily enjoy Ryker and his brothers. I highly recommend reading the Sin Brothers series if you enjoy Deadly Silence and if you haven’t read it yet then start with book 1 in the Sin Brothers series, Forgotten Sins. There are only 4 books in the series and you will enjoy a binge read.
Having Karen White return as the narrator for this world was only natural. White brought Zanetti’s Sin Brothers to life and she does the same great job with the Blood Brothers. I also love the fact that White gets to reprise her role as the doctor that spans both series.
Deadly Silence is a great start to the Blood Brother series and I’m looking forward to more!
I really enjoyed Deadly Silence on audio. Karen White does a good job with the pacing and making it easy to understand. It was my first story by Rebecca Zanetti. I’m looking forward to the next one Lethal Lies.
There is so much going on with the world-building, getting to know all the characters, the multiple situations and cases which have mystery, suspense and action. And there are some really horrible bad guys. All this makes it interesting and exciting, but it’s a little disconnected in some ways. I mean how can they have so many attackers and attempts, without serious injuries or someone dying? And sometimes I think they aren’t very good at focusing on safety when they’ve got bad guys after them.
Many of the characters are strong and brave and compassionate. I have come to care for them and want to see more of them and learn more about their situations, cases and futures.
I was hoping for a spinoff after I finished the last book in the Sin Brothers series as there were some loose threads remaining to be pulled. This was a good start and I was happy to see some character crossover.
The story begins with Zara Remington and Ryker Jones already in a “casual” relationship. She’s a paralegal and he’s a private investigator who does work for her firm and travels almost constantly. Things start to shift when she gets embroiled in her friend’s divorce and Ryker goes all Alpha male when she gets hurt.
Ryker also has two brothers who work with him and the three bonded when they first met at a boys home in their youth (sound familiar?). They’re hiding a big secret about their past that they have to confront when an unusual client asks for help in finding someone. And, all three are trying to find a serial killer who targets red headed women.
There’s a lot going on in this story and I’m a fan of multiple plot lines. However, the serial killer aspect took a backseat to Zara’s issues and the brothers’ search on behalf of their client. It’s a strong start to the series and it has a continuing story arc so not all things are wrapped by the end of the book. I think you’ll enhance your reading experience by reading the other series first, though as there are important elements that serve as a foundation. However, if you don’t, you won’t be lost. And, I listened to the last book in the first series and regretted that I hadn’t switched earlier. Karen White continues as narrator here, bringing a familiarity that I found essential. Bring on the next book!
After 17 years I've finally finished my BA in English (no I do not want to be a teacher). Before majoring in English I would not have touched anything labeled "classic", but I have enjoyed a few along the way in my college career.
While I hated to read growing up, I am now an avid book reader and audiobook listener. I love rejecting reality one book at a time. I only read fiction within my favorite (at least to date) genres which include: most romance (paranormal, contemporary, D/s, BDSM, M/M)Urban Fantasy, and a few YA (mostly PNR or UF from favorite adult authors, but I'm slowly stepping out of my comfort zone after enjoying a few contemporary YA novels in adolescent literature class I took).
