After months of bad luck and even worse men, Luciana Diaz just wants to crawl under the covers and forget the year ever happened. Her friend has other plans, convincing Luci to attend a New Year’s Eve party on the affluent shores of Kiawah Island.
Luci never expected to have fun. She also never expected to wake up with a man she just met, or for this man to be the new attorney at her firm.
Landon Summers is done with drama. After an ugly separation and even worse divorce, he has no desire to jump into another relationship.
When his sister Trinity drags him to a New Year’s Eve party, he doesn’t plan to stay long. One drink, a few hellos, and he’s out. Until he meets Luci, the first person in months to draw his smile and incite his passion.
Neither Luci nor Landon planned on each other, and they definitely didn’t plan on love. But the New Year means a fresh start, and eternal possibilities neither could deny .
I got interested in this Carolina Beach series after Jennifer reviewed the first book, Inseverable. This is near where I live now and I’ve always wanted to read this author. The main characters of the first two books are sister and brother in a well-to-do family. The whole setup of the family is unreal with the money, the charity work and some of their conversations.
The circle of their friends are also mostly monied. These are new adults but some of them feel less mature. Some of them, I just want to smack upside the head and tell them to communicate and just say what they mean. The secondary characters will hopefully be more realistic with bigger roles in future stories.
Luci starts out feeling like a doormat in Eternal. It turns out she is smart and capable. I loved her strength and heart. There was the hurtful part of her life which she works to keep hidden and I wish she trusted those who love her enough to share it with them. Landon has been through the wringer and is naturally cautious about any involvements. His aversion to further pain can’t keep him from being who he is. I love the way they finally become a couple with the growth they both have.
Unlike Anne, I didn’t see Luci as a doormat. She kept hope where most people wouldn’t have. She tried her best to help her drug addicted mother for years. This kept her from living her life for herself. Landon hasn’t lived his life to the fullest for about a year after his divorce. Then he met Luci and they both started living again.
Landon and Lui both have issues from their pasts that hold them down, but seeing them come up for air and finding the love they both deserve was a joy. Their HEA started with not a one night stand but a whole weekend stand that was so much more. Luckily their jobs brought them back together and they did things “right” the second time around. They stayed out of the bedroom and got to know each other on another level. Seeing them fall in love was sweet, funny and sexy.
I’m enjoying the Carolina Beach series and I look forward to the next story which I think (and hope) is Becca and Hale’s HEA.
I read all types of books but my favorites are urban fantasy and romantic suspense.I like some romance and some action / adventure / mystery in everything.I like sex in my books but please, only between TWO people.Intimate conversation is equally important to the sex in a book.It lets me see the characters. The other thing I enjoy is humor.I'll be doing a feature monthly called Thrifty Thursday, which reviews books (ebooks)that have been available for free.
