When I first read this trilogy, it was years ago. I recently re-read Lessons in Love and quickly remember how much I loved these books. The trilogy starts with The Rake and is a second-chance at love story, which I enjoy. It is a nice break from the norm – characters meeting and instantly falling in lust/love. Georgiana and Tristan have a rocky past, which leads Georgiana to develop a “club” with two of her friends (the subsequent heroines of the trilogy). The ladies decide they will write list of rules, ‘Lessons in Love,’ and implement them. Six years ago, Tristan played a cruel trick on Georgiana and broke her heart. Now, she is going to teach him a lesson. I enjoyed their snipping back […]

The Rock by Monica McCarty

The Rock by Monica McCarty

The Rock is another great book! I love this series. For someone who enjoys history (so much so, I went for my degree), Monica McCarty’s stories are rich in detail and historical goodies. Her writing style is wonderful; she has a real talent for drawing the read to her characters. Thomas MacGowan and Lady Elizabeth Dougal come from different worlds. He is the son of a blacksmith and she is nobility, yet they were childhood friends. While growing up, Thomas hoped that he and Elziabeth could be together one day, but social status and her fear of being disowned by her family kept them apart. As they grew older, Thomas confesses his love for Elizabeth, but she refuses. She feels that she has a duty […]

The Highlander’s Desire by Margo Maguire

The Highlander’s Desire by Margo Maguire

I’ve been on a huge Highlander historical romance kick lately. I absolutely love the Highland Guard series by Monica McCarty and, despite my insane schedule/life, I’ve managed to read at least one of her books a week. When I purchase Ms. McCarty’s books Margo Maguire pops up as a recommended purchase. I’ve read Ms. Maguire in the past and decided to give her another try. Lachlann McMillan has been shielding a broken heart for years after his first love married his rival. Now, he views marriage as a means to an end. In the interest of protecting his Clan and gaining a Lairdship, he has agreed to marry a woman he soon realizes he detests.  Anna is a kindhearted woman despite her hard life. […]

The Striker by Monica McCarty

The Striker by Monica McCarty

Monica McCarty’s Highland Guard series is one of my favorites across the romance genre. The historical aspects and the rough and tumble highlander vibe of her heroes is spot on. This time, McCarty based her story around a second chance at love, though the characters have more of a lust-at-first-sight relationship. I can’t knock the book for taking the lust approach, many romance novels start with sexual tension that later builds and evolves into love. Eoin MacLean (love the spelling) has been in the background of previous books and I’m happy to see him move to the front. Like the rest of highly skilled Highland Guard, Eoin is a warrior through and through and he’s got a bit of an ego. At times he was […]

The Darkest Secret by Gena Showalter

The Darkest Secret by Gena Showalter

The Darkest Secret is book 7 within the Lords of the Underworld series. Amun, the keeper of secrets, is our leading man. The heroine, Haidee, is a hunter intent on freeing the world of demons. Their romance kicks off a bit rocky. Haidee has been captured and is being held in the Lord’s dungeon, since she is the woman who killed their friend long ago. And, after some back and forth, they end up skipping off to Hell together for a mission. It is  during this time, while working together, that they get know each other and catch feelings. I’m in love with the series, but this installment fell a little short of the mark. Up until now, Amun hasn’t had a large part in […]

The Darkest Lie by Gena Showalter

The Darkest Lie by Gena Showalter

I had been waiting for Gideon’s story! I was so interested to see how Ms. Showalter would format the dialogue – Gideon is the keeper of lies, therefore he can only speak lies. It must have been tricky to write  and she did it perfectly.  Gideon has the average punk rocker look, complete with tattoos, piercings, blue hair (Love it!) and the attitude. He is drawn to the woman who has recently been imprisoned in his dungeon, but doesn’t know why. He struggles to remember how he knows her, but can sense in his heart that their paths had crossed before. Scarlett is a very strong female lead, characters like her always make me happy. She has been searching for the man she believes had […]

The Art of Sinning by Sabrina Jeffries

The Art of Sinning by Sabrina Jeffries

The Art of Sinning was a wonderful start to the new Sinful Suitors series by Sabrina Jeffries. Ms. Jeffries is one of my go to historical authors. All of her books are light, romantic, and fun reads, but this one had a little something extra. Jeremy Keane isn’t interested in taking over his father’s business. He’d rather advance his career and skills as a painter. While searching for the perfect model for his risque work, he meets Lady Yvette Barlow. Enthralled by her spirit and beauty, he peruses her Lady Yvette and her family aren’t strangers to scandal. It seems to follow them around like a shadow. When she learns that her brother has an illegitimate son living in a brothel, […]

Lucan Thorne is an ancient “Breed” warrior vampire. For centuries he has fought against the Rogue vampires to keep not only vampire society a secret/safe, but to also protect the humans. Gabrielle Maxwell is a gifted, immensely successful photographer. She is drawn to old buildings and darkness. Her photos have a certain…paranormal quality that her fans love. She had no idea that she had been taking photos of vampire dwellings. It is after an art show that she witnesses a brutal murder. She is convinced that something otherworldly had killed the young man. The cops brush aside her suspicions, but her story and picture of the scene catches Lucan’s attention as well as the Rogue vampire’s. Lucan must protect her from the vampire’s bloody war […]
