Rylann Pierce and Kyle Rhodes had an encounter in Champaigne, Illinois nine years ago when she was a law school student and he was completing his graduate work. She’s now an assistant US attorney working out of the Chicago office and he’s trying to pick up the pieces of his life after having served four months in prison for hacking into Twitter and shutting it down for two days.I enjoyed Kyle’s relationship with his sister Jordan in A Lot Like Love and he doesn’t disappoint here. He’s interesting, clever and extremely appealing (looks like Sawyer […]

Review: Soulless by Gail Carriger

Alexia Tarabotti is a soulless spinster whose deceased father is Italian. Apparently she inherited her father’s physical traits, which were not considered vogue in 19th century England. Even her mother felt it unnecessary to have her participate in the ton season, thinking it a waste of time. They live in a world where the paranormal (werewolves, vampires and others) coexist openly with humans and the story opens with Alexia accidentally killing a vampire. The werewolf Lord Maccon, leader of the Bureau of Unnatural Registry is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate. Everyone seems to believe she is responsible when it is determined that vampires are appearing and disappearing unexpectedly. Oh, as a soulless, she has the ability to render supernatural powers useless. […]

This is a touching, heartwarming love story that is also a lesson in courage. Amelia Carson is a true hero in that she looked beyond the surface of Houston Leigh and saw his heart, even when he couldn’t. I think she was incredibly brave and resilient to seek a new life for herself, especially during this era. She didn’t waste time feeling sorry for herself because of her circumstances but was determined to make the best of it and create the opportunity. Amelia was just lucky that it included Houston. Speaking of Houston, he epitomizes the tortured hero. One side of his face is terribly scarred and it has shaped him in some good and some unfortunate ways. The good way? He’s a sensitive man who […]
