I love this author and I have loved this Devil’s Isle series from the start. Somehow, this is an audio series for me. The world and the character of Claire are something special. Claire is mature; she’s had to be, since she is on her own. Her skills and practical nature reflect her upbringing. In The Hunt, she learns much more about her family history as she works to help all the people in New Orleans, with or without magic.  She grows in her magic skills, and deals with new information. Even though she is a target, and more isolated with hiding, because of her magic, she makes a stand for what is right. At the end of The Sight, Liam leaves. For the […]

Blog Tour: Beard in Mind by Penny Reid

I love this Winston Brothers series and its characters. I trust Penny Reid for smart and humorous writing. The feels are gigantic! It isn’t just the characters, the small town world, the romance of each book; it is also the intelligent, compassionate handling of authentic feelings and issues. There are also other things happening besides the romance for layers of emotions and information, like real life. Beard in Mind is the fourth book, with Beau and Shelly. Beau is one of the twins, with Duane. Shelly is Quinn’s sister, of Janie and Quinn from Neanderthal Seeking Human  in the related Knitting in the City series.  Beau is the cheerful, polite one who gets along with everyone, until Shelly. He has so, […]

Eye Candy by Jessica Lemmon

Eye Candy by Jessica Lemmon

I have a weakness for romances with friends-to-lovers and Eye Candy by Jessica Lemmon hit the spot! Eye Candy is about two best friends, Jackie and Vince. They share titles as vice-president at a marketing firm, they share pizza, beer and movie nights. They also share the fact they both are divorced and are gun shy about getting back into the dating world. Vince has done the “guy thing” and had a few one-night stands over the years to get over his ex-wife, but he is ready for more with his BFF, Jackie. She on the other hand has dragged her feet in the dating world and he doesn’t want to be her rebound. Vince comes up with a plan to get Jackie out there […]

Review   We met both Melody Rodriguez and Trent Hettinger in the first two books of this series. But, we only knew the basics. She’s Evelyn’s best friend, he dated Evelyn briefly. He’s into BDSM and is a Dom. She’s really good at her jobs and is in a committed relationship with him. Now, their story takes major steps backwards in time to share how they came to be.   One of the unexpected bonuses coming out of this story was getting third party perspectives about the Evelyn/Austin/Ross relationship from the very beginning. I wondered during the first two books how much employees and others knew about them, what they thought and that gets answered. And, more details about Evelyn’s dalliance with Trent […]

Blog tour: Dating-ish by Penny Reid

Penny Reid is one of my favorite authors, in the top 5,  and nearly everything of hers I read is a 5 star book. She has included so many things I love like friends knitting and cooking, and cultural things like Harry Potter and Charlie Hunnam.  She is addictive. I have such respect for her work. So what about Dating-ish?  I had trouble starting this one; I didn’t like Matt. At 38%, I wasn’t sure I was going to like him. Ugh, coconut.  I LOVE Marie. She, like Penny’s books, is smart and vulnerable and honest. It amazes me how strong these women are to be so authentic.  As a total computer nerd, things like AI and robots are fascinating to me. Plus, I […]

I said in my review of Tapped that I needed just a little bit more. Well, I got a lot more in this follow up story.   Ross Hoffman walked away from his relationship with Evelyn and Austin after realizing the impossibilities of having it work, especially with Evelyn being pregnant with his child and legally married to Austin. He escapes to a brewery in Boulder but cannot seem to forget Evelyn. When he is suddenly drawn back to Grand Rapids, he’s “lightstruck” by their new brewmaster, Elisa (Elle) Nagel, a fellow German who is completely opposite of his “type.”   Frankly, I loved the three-way relationship between Austin, Evelyn and Ross as Crowe created a fascinating situation between them so I was […]

Gwen Bailey is feeling pretty good about herself for a change now that her family has emerged from the grief and despair brought about by the death of her brother and nephew five years ago. Her parents leaned heavily on her for support and now that her other brother has returned to town, it’s her turn to focus on her own happiness. And at the center of that focus is The Muffin Man, or TMM as he’s “confectionately” known as he comes into her chocolate shop every morning for his coffee and muffin. What she doesn’t know is he’s Dr. Luke Thomson and he’s keeping a secret that could potentially devastate her.   What’s not to like about Gwen? She’s a great friend, […]

Anne’s Audio Review I was so excited to get this audio, since I had also listened to Deadly Silence.  In between these two audios in the Blood Brothers series , I listened to the entire  Sin Brothers series which is related.  The Sin Brothers came first if you are OCD like me. Karen White narrated both series so I enjoyed the consistency. While the women have different personalities, most of them sounded the same to me. The men had a little more variation. These are professional,  comfortably paced audio books. The overall story arc continues and I’m happy we learn more in each installment. The Blood brothers were rather isolated in childhood, so they are learning more about themselves and their history all the time. This book also has […]
