What can I say, Gin’s my girl! In Unraveled she shows the underbelly that there’s a new sheriff in town. I love that Unraveled has Philly in it! He’s a likable character like Finn and can deliver the snarky lines and is great to have for back up. Gin is working to figure how who is in the Circle, a super-secret group that we hear about in the previous book, Bitter Bite. While the plot for this installment starts out in Ashland, Gin, and her posse take a weekend vacation to Bullet Pointe. Bullet Pointe is a western theme park and hotel resort near Ashland and Finn got the deed to it from his dead mother. If you’re a fan of the series then you know that […]

Audio review: The Sight by Chloe Neill

Audio review: The Sight by Chloe Neill

I am new to the Chloe Neil party.  Some Girls Bite  of the Chicagoland Vampire series was one of my first ever audiobooks when I moved halfway across the country last year. Needless to say, I was hooked and now she is a favorite author.  I moved on to the Devil’s Isle series on audio as well. As urban fantasy, the books should definitely be read in order. Amy Landon is a comfortable narrator to understand and very enjoyable. She lets the characters come alive in the voices and brings their emotions to the story. I like her voice in my mind for Claire; it has a southern feel even though there is not really an accent. Landon does accents where appropriate. Claire and Liam […]

I LOVED the start of this new series by a favorite author! The main character, Nell, was introduced in a Jane Yellowrock short story, Off the Grid.  Nell is fascinating and on the brink of a new phase of her life. She is much younger than I felt originally. I am SO excited to learn more about Nell and watch her growth in the Soulwood series. Nell works with a new PsyLED team, led by Rick LaFleur. I was afraid for Nell, all the time. But she was not stupid; she was strong and smart. The depth of the characters and the imagery of the world were spellbinding. The team dynamics were intriguing, as well as the team members. I really enjoyed them. […]

If you’ve not read Bitter Bite there will be a mild spoiler.   Much like Owen needed to wrap up some things in his novella, Kiss of Venom, after Widow’s Web,  Finn needed to deal with the emotional fall-out of Bitter Bite in his own novella. Finn is alone for the most of Unwanted but it’s not because his friends aren’t around to help. He believes he deserves to be alone after mommy dearest almost killed him and a few of Gin’s group. Unwanted is how Finn feels after the bank robbery that killed many of his co-workers. They blame Finn for the deaths and so does he. Finn is no longer Mr. Popular at work and he would be ok with that if it wasn’t […]

Forevermore by Kristen Callihan

Forevermore by Kristen Callihan

Kristen Callihan’s Darkest London series as been a 5-star ride for me from the beginning to the near end. While Forevermore wasn’t a 5-star for me it was pretty damn close. What kept if from the perfect rating? The additional of the whole series cast. I can see where some of the earlier characters needed to make an appearance but a few felt like they were just thrown in because the series was wrapping up and it was their last time to make a cameo. That’s my only complaint about Forevermore and the end of the Darkest London series by Callihan. I felt like St. John aka Sin and Layla lost a little page time to Archer and I’m not sure why Archer needed as much page […]

Grin and Beard It by Penny Reid

Grin and Beard It by Penny Reid

In the Knitting in the City series, Ashley Winston is one of the “knitters” who has SIX brothers. Grin and Beard It is the second book in the spinoff series, Winston Brothers. I love the brothers. They are funny and interesting. Jethro is featured here, a former bad boy who has been trying hard to redeem himself. It’s heartwarming to see him apply his considerable talents to good works. Jethro holds himself to some high standards these days. Sienna’s perspectives are unusual, candid and refreshing.  She is far from a typical actor, thank goodness.  Their first experiences with real love, plus the attitudes of those around them are the basis for this tale. The complication of Sienna’s celebrity adds some twists. Almost more than […]

Excerpt   Willa parted the faded blue gingham curtains and peered out between the panels. Well, she thought, surveying the moonlit scene that confronted her, she had found John Henry and solved the mystery of why the traitorous dog had not made a sound. He was cradled like a baby in Israel McKenna’s arms having his belly rubbed and no doubt being told what a very good dog he was.   She wanted to bang her forehead against the glass but feared that the percussion would wake Annalea. Instead, she carefully raised the window a few inches and knelt on the floor so she could speak through the opening.   “What are you doing here?” she whispered. “And don’t tell me you’re returning John […]

Julie Chandler returned home to Seaside, North Carolina following a failed relationship that left her trying to find her way. She’s looking to develop a career based on her yoga instruction skills at the town’s Veterans Center. Lawson Phillips is an Army pilot mentally recovering from a devastating helo crash that’s left him struggling to fly again. He’s had his eye on Julie but it takes an interesting turn once she begins her yoga classes.   I liked the promise of this story, as well as both Julie and Lawson. What worked was the spotlight on not just the symptoms of PTSD but the therapies that seem to work. I also liked that there weren’t any shortcuts and Lawson had to do the […]
