Deceiving Bella by Cate Beauman: Excerpt & Giveaway

The Inspiration Behind Deceiving Bella   It’s no secret that I’m a crime television junky. I love watching anything that might bring about an idea for another story. Several months ago, I found a series on Netflix about La Cosa Nostra—or the five mafia families of New York. I was immediately drawn to the information I was observing. Within minutes, I knew I wanted to weave together an adventure that would bring Isabella Colby and Reed McKinley face to face with organized crime. I hope you’ll enjoy reading Deceiving Bella as much as I loved writing it.     Excerpt     Chapter 1: Bella drew a heart on the back of a pale pink envelope while she sat at the small table […]

Early review & Giveaway: The Bloodsworn by Erin Lindsey

I love the Bloodbound series. I adore the battles, the romance, the humor and the characters. It surprised me because of the historical feel. I don’t always enjoy historical. Read this series in order. Here is my review of the second book, BloodForged.  I found myself almost hopeless after this book, everything was so dire – a matter of life and death. So I was afraid to read this final book of the trilogy. TERRIFIED.  I worried my favorite characters would be hurt or die.  I worried the romances would end up with couples I didn’t ship. I was a mess! The story began as frightening as I expected. My anxiety continued at high levels. I even peeked at the end to just see if […]

Fatal Courage by Misty Evans: Blog Tour, Review & Giveaway

Shadow Force International operative Jaxon (Jax) Sloan finds himself assigned to a case that pairs him with CIA Agent Ruby McKellen, the woman who stole his heart during a mission in Morroco and derailed his career as a Navy SEAL. It also didn’t do her career any favors as she’s now on probation. Both are now trying to find her former partner who’s escaped from jail. She’s trying to prove his innocence, Jax…not so much as he was responsible for putting him there.   This was a real puzzler of a case as there’s so much subterfuge and duplicity you never know who’s telling the truth or whom to believe. It was often exciting and tension filled with one disaster after another. I was […]

What can I say, Gin’s my girl! In Unraveled she shows the underbelly that there’s a new sheriff in town. I love that Unraveled has Philly in it! He’s a likable character like Finn and can deliver the snarky lines and is great to have for back up. Gin is working to figure how who is in the Circle, a super-secret group that we hear about in the previous book, Bitter Bite. While the plot for this installment starts out in Ashland, Gin, and her posse take a weekend vacation to Bullet Pointe. Bullet Pointe is a western theme park and hotel resort near Ashland and Finn got the deed to it from his dead mother. If you’re a fan of the series then you know that […]

Audio review: The Sight by Chloe Neill

Audio review: The Sight by Chloe Neill

I am new to the Chloe Neil party.  Some Girls Bite  of the Chicagoland Vampire series was one of my first ever audiobooks when I moved halfway across the country last year. Needless to say, I was hooked and now she is a favorite author.  I moved on to the Devil’s Isle series on audio as well. As urban fantasy, the books should definitely be read in order. Amy Landon is a comfortable narrator to understand and very enjoyable. She lets the characters come alive in the voices and brings their emotions to the story. I like her voice in my mind for Claire; it has a southern feel even though there is not really an accent. Landon does accents where appropriate. Claire and Liam […]

I LOVED the start of this new series by a favorite author! The main character, Nell, was introduced in a Jane Yellowrock short story, Off the Grid.  Nell is fascinating and on the brink of a new phase of her life. She is much younger than I felt originally. I am SO excited to learn more about Nell and watch her growth in the Soulwood series. Nell works with a new PsyLED team, led by Rick LaFleur. I was afraid for Nell, all the time. But she was not stupid; she was strong and smart. The depth of the characters and the imagery of the world were spellbinding. The team dynamics were intriguing, as well as the team members. I really enjoyed them. […]

If you’ve not read Bitter Bite there will be a mild spoiler.   Much like Owen needed to wrap up some things in his novella, Kiss of Venom, after Widow’s Web,  Finn needed to deal with the emotional fall-out of Bitter Bite in his own novella. Finn is alone for the most of Unwanted but it’s not because his friends aren’t around to help. He believes he deserves to be alone after mommy dearest almost killed him and a few of Gin’s group. Unwanted is how Finn feels after the bank robbery that killed many of his co-workers. They blame Finn for the deaths and so does he. Finn is no longer Mr. Popular at work and he would be ok with that if it wasn’t […]

Red Queen by Christina Henry

Red Queen by Christina Henry

Wow.  I could hardly put Red Queen down. It is the sequel to Alice. Both works cleverly use names and themes from Alice in Wonderland. They are so dark and layered. I had the same confused, uneasy feeling I have always had about the original. Alice is our beleaguered hero, struggling to survive. She has been sold, raped, tortured and locked up in many ways. Now she has taken off on a new path with Hatcher. Her growth and perseverance is inspiring. The world continues to be a dark and scary place with those intent on using magic to fulfill their own greed with its power. Stunning and well-written, and the horror is very unlike my normal reading choices. Highly recommended. The Chronicles […]
