June is Audiobook Month (JIAM): When the Narrator IS the Character!

June is Audiobook Month (JIAM): When the Narrator IS the Character!

I love listening to stories and am so thrilled my library has such a robust inventory of my favorite authors and narrators. Most of us know the importance of a good narrator to a story. But it’s just an added bonus when that narrator becomes the character he or she is portraying.   Here are some great examples. 1. Drew Evans in Tangled by Emma Chase – performed by Sebastian York Sebastian just nailed Drew and made a good book great to listen to. 2. Joe Goldberg in You and Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes – performed by Santino Fontana This unique character had the potential of being a complete turnoff except Fontana made him leap from the pages and accept him. 3. Harry […]

Narrator Interview with Alison Larkin The English American

Narrator Interview with Alison Larkin The English American

Welcome, Alison Larkin to The Book Nympho. I first fell in love with Alison’s narration through Bec McMaster’s London Steampunk series. Now I’m branching out into more of Alison work with Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and shortly after her work on many Jane Austen titles.   Can you walk us through your prep work for a narration project? Do you prepare any notes to help decide the tone and voice to give a character when there’s not a clear description of their voice in the novel (when they do not have a distinct accent)? The kind of prep work needed varies from book to book. For example, if I know and love the story already as was the case with Agatha Christie’s The Secret Adversary, Peter Pan and […]

ICYMI: Posts from 2015 and 2014 June is Audiobook Month and we are celebrating for a 3rd year! I’m kicking off the month a little early with a how-to post on getting those audiobook CDs onto your devices. Most you probably already know how to do this but for those audiobook newbies out there this post is for you.     Once the audiobook is on your phone (or any Apple device) you can find it in iBooks app. Once you’re in the app choose ‘Audiobooks’ and all the audiobooks you upload to your device will be there waiting for your listening enjoyment. It’s that easy. And you can do this with those library audios you check out. {whispers} They’re yours to keep. Sometimes […]

June Is Audiobook Month (JIAM): Favorite Female Narrators

June Is Audiobook Month (JIAM): Favorite Female Narrators

Posted June 29, 2015 by Jennifer in JIAM | 18 Comments

I started Audiobook Month off with my favorite male narrators now it’s time to close the month with my favorite female narrators. This list will be longer because I’ve listened to more female narrators than males. These ladies can bring it! Fun and Sassy These ladies will have you laughing your butt off! Amanda Ronconi – Amanda is the reason I listen to all of Molly Harper books instead of reading them. Ronconi is the voice of Molly Harper. They two are a great team wither it’s PNR or Contemporary Romance. If you want to laugh while a couple falls in love you should list to a Harper/Ronconi book. “They’re back…. The team of Molly Harper and Amanda Ronconi never fails to entertain me. Between Harper’s witty […]

How Audiobooks Promotes Literacy

How Audiobooks Promotes Literacy

Still not sure about audiobooks? How about experiencing them with your children. After visiting the Harry Potter World in Orlando my 9-year-old son is all about starting the books. I’m thinking about checking out the audio cds from the library for us to listen to while we follow along in the books. And it looks like this could be a great thing.   Think about it. We read aloud to children at a young age so why not introduce them to audiobooks at a young age as well?

Carolyn from Book Chick City tells us why she loves audiobooks

Why I Love Audiobooks A few years ago I didn’t understand why people enjoyed audiobooks. A friend of mine recommended them to me and I was all about the “nah, not for me”. After a while she wore me down and I agreed to try them. I listened while I was doing the housework, driving in the car, and in bed, but to no avail. I just couldn’t get on with them. I either became distracted or fell asleep, either way it ended up with me missing chunks of the story and having to rewind. However, last summer I had a lot going on personally and fell into one of the biggest reading slumps I ever had, which felt like the ultimate betrayal, as reading […]

June is Audiobook Month (JIAM): Owning vs “Renting” Audiobooks

June is Audiobook Month and at The Book Nympho we will be celebrating every Monday in June with audio related posts and giveaways. We will also be bring you a month full of  audio reviews.   So many of my friends opened a subscription with Scribd when they added a robust library of audiobooks. From what I understand, they can listen to the books but don’t actually own them.   Recently, I participated in an Audible survey where they presented several service options for evaluation. One of those options would allow subscribers to access titles without permanently maintaining or owning them. I tried to quickly assess my listening habits to determine if it would be an option I’d seriously consider and was stuck.   I own […]

Audiobooks: 10 Things Geeky Blogger listens for….

Audiobooks: 10 Things I listen for….   Hi y’all! Felicia the Geeky Blogger here to talk about the top 10 things I look for when picking narrators to listen too. I have been asked this question several times over the years. When Jennifer asked me to do a guest post–I knew just what topic to tackle!   My top 10 things that land a narrator on my “forever” list:   Pacing: This seems like a strange number one but it is the most obvious when listening to a sample. If the narrator is pausing too much, taking too many breaths, or rushing through sentences it can ruin a book. I like someone who is pretty even with their pacing. It makes listening to them in […]
