June is Audiobook Month (JIAM): Multiple Narrators

June is Audiobook Month and at The Book Nympho we will be celebrating every Monday in June with audio related posts and giveaways. We will also be bring you a month full of  audio reviews.   It’s been fairly recent that I listened to audiobooks with more than one narrator and have come to love them! It may be because the books I listened to were exceptional but I’m betting it’s just something that works for me. Having multiple narrators is extremely helpful when there are two or more points of view presented in a story. It’s almost critical when there are frequent transitions. This was especially true with One Plus One by Jojo Moyes where there were four characters whose points of view were presented […]

Listen Up! to What Jen Twimom has to say about Audiobooks

Listen Up! to What Jen Twimom has to say about Audiobooks

For many, to include myself, listening to audiobooks is a learned pleasure. Figuring out how to listen attentively and appreciate the nuances of the narration can take a newbie some time. Listening to a book you’ve previously read is a great way to break into audiobooks. This is especially true if you loved the book originally, and it is narrated by a top-tier performer. I started my love affair with audiobooks in this manner. Our lovely blog hostess here at The Book Nympho, Jennifer, along with a few other “diehard” listeners, helped me find a solid series/narrator combination to help “ease” me into listening to books. I completed a “re-read” of the Kate Daniel series by Ilona Andrews, which is narrated by Renee Raudman. This […]

THE DIAMOND OF JERU by Louis L’Amour is now on sale, and I wanted to pass along some videos that show the behind-the-scenes process for this unique audiobook recording: The Diamond of Jeru: The Story Creating the audiobook (below) Directing an audio dramatization THE DIAMOND OF JERU is a full cast audio dramatization of a gritty adventure tale set in the jungles of Borneo during the 1950s. The story (about an American expat hired for a dangerous expedition to track down a rare gem) was discovered after 40 years in storage following L’Amour’s death, and the completed audio project has been a nearly 10-year labor of love for producer Beau L’Amour (Louis’s son). Hundreds of hours were spent collecting and recording authentic sound effects, and with […]

Katie Reus Shares Her Top 4 Narrators

Katie Reus Shares Her Top 4 Narrators

Thanks so much to Jennifer for inviting me here today to chat about one of my favorite mediums for books! Years ago I used to listen to audiobooks only when on a road trip. I’d get a CD set from Cracker Barrel at the start of any trip (I listened to some great Linda Howard books that way!) and be good to go. About 6 years ago I got an iPod shuffle and discovered a much better way to listen to audiobooks. I also discovered some new authors and series’ that I’m still addicted to including Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series and Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series (though after listening to the first one I devoured the rest in print because I was too […]

June is Audiobook Month (JIAM): Favorite Male Narrators

June is Audiobook Month (JIAM): Favorite Male Narrators

June is Audiobook Month and at The Book Nympho we will be celebrating every Monday in June with audio related posts and giveaways. We will also be bring you a month full of  audio reviews. I’m kicking JIAM 2015 off with a list of my favorite male narrators. I’ve not listened to many audios performed by male narrators but I do have a few that are must listens.   Robert Petkoff – Petkoff brings so much life to the characters that I can’t bring myself to experience the books any other way but on audio. He does the female character justice and his accents for the male characters are just panty dropping good!  (interview from 2014, reviews) Luke Daniels -Daniels does a fabulous job with both romance and […]

Sweet Romances or Kick Butt Urban Fantasy, Lauren Fortgang Does it All

Sweet Romances or Kick Butt Urban Fantasy, Lauren Fortgang Does it All

Welcome Lauren Fortgang back to The Book Nympho. I first feel in love with Lauren’s narration through Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series. Once I saw she was the narrator for Shannon Stacey’s Kowalski Family series I knew I had to listen. Lauren nails both UF and Contemporary Romance. Next I’m trying some of her Young Adult work.   Can you walk us through your prep work for a narration project? Do you prepare any notes to help decide the tone and voice to give a character when there’s not a clear description of their voice in the novel (when they do not have a distinct accent)? Sure! The most important element is, of course, reading the book in advance. It’s useless to begin narration without knowing […]

The Bookaholic Cat Likes Them Long and Complex

The Bookaholic Cat Likes Them Long and Complex

I Like Them Long and Complex! The other day I was talking with a friend about the lengths of the audiobooks. She was saying that the length of the audiobook intimidates some people. For some, an over 12 hours audiobook is a too long audiobook. I realized I’m completely the opposite. Sometimes I skip audiobooks when I see they are short (less than 10 hours). I like my audiobooks long and I like them complex. What do I mean when I say I like them complex? I like when my audiobooks have many characters, especially if they have two narrators, those are my favorite audiobooks ever. I also realized my favorite genre on audiobooks is Fantasy. I love to listen to fantasy audiobooks, loooove them! […]

Tavia Gilbert, Narrator that brought Chapter 32 to your earbuds!

Tavia Gilbert, Narrator that brought Chapter 32 to your earbuds!

Welcome Tavia Glibert to The Book Nympho today. She has brought some saucy characters to life and the infamous Chapter 32 from One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost.  Can you walk us through your prep work for a narration project? Do you prepare any notes to help decide the tone and voice to give a character when there’s not a clear description of their voice in the novel (when they do not have a distinct accent)? When I get a new audiobook script, I read the entire book. Whether the project is fiction or non-fiction, I’m reading closely to identify any words that I don’t know how to pronounce (I’ve learned never to just assume that I know how something is pronounced). And […]
