STOMP_ROMP

I would like to thank both Team Stomp and Team Romp authors for taking part in Stomp vs Romp for its 4th year. Both sides are winners! You guys brought some great posts this year and it was fun reading them all. Best of luck with your 2015 book releases and future releases!

And a special thank you to this year’s co-host Rachel over at Parajunkee, without her it would have hard to pull off Stomp vs Romp by myself.

I’m not sure if Stomp vs Romp will be back for a 5th year. It all depends on what’s going on in our real lives. I’m busy with finishing up my BA in English, work and family. Carmel (Rabid Reads) is also busy with real life stuff. And Rachel has a lot on her plate as well. So we’ll see what 2016 holds and let y’all know if Stomp vs Romp will be back. Until then keep reading those kick ass heroes/heroines and those smexy romances.

If you missed a post . . .

Why It’s 10,000x More Fun to Write a Fight Scene with Sierra Dean

Why It’s 10,000x More Fun to Write a Fight Scene with Sierra Dean

Why It’s 10,000x More Fun to Write a Fight Scene   I’m going to say something scandalous, so avert your eyes if you have a sensitive mind: I’ve had sex. WOAH, I know right? Jump back, Sierra, that’s too much! But real talk: I have. So have most of you. In the immortal words of George Michael: sex is natural, sex is fun (and if you write it in a book, it doesn’t need to be one on one!) Ha. You know what I’ve NEVER done? I’ve never been in a fight? (No, I don’t count the time in grade six where I punched a girl for spreading rumours about me, although I did give her a bloody nose, so I’m basically Ronda Rousey.) […]

In A Murder of Mages, Satrine Rainey is a newly minted inspector in the Maradaine Constabulary. With her family’s security resting on her salary, Satrine is going to fight like hell to prove she deserves the posting.  So when a suspect makes a break for it, Satrine is the first one to tear after him…   The bastard was running now, out in the open street. The lampmen had been useless in stopping him, so all he had to do was get out of sight and he’d be free as a lark. Satrine would be damned if she let that happen. She pounded after the man. He had a strong lead, but she would close that distance once she got her feet under her. […]

An Original Short from Kristi Charish on Owl from Owl and the City of Angels

Today TEAM STOMP brings you an original short about Owl from Kristi Charish’s Adventures of Owl series. Enjoy!   Alix Hiboux, aka Owl from Owl and the Japanese Circus     Ok, Alix. Deep breathe and let’s try this again… I stood back up, legs apart like Rynn had shown me while I sized him up. We were in the basement of the Japanese Circus Casino in an unmarked training room. From the dojo style and artwork spaced around the room, I was putting money on it being one of Oricho’s design. Now, whether Mr. Kurosawa knew of its existence though was suspect. I didn’t think he’d let something that was so obviously a remnant of his disgraced servant stand this intact… A few […]

How To Research A STOMP Scene by ML Brennan

How To Research A STOMP Scene by ML Brennan

How To Research A STOMP Scene by ML Brennan   Writing an action scene involves a lot of elements – knowledge of combat techniques, knowledge of how weapons work, a clear awareness of how much damage bodies can realistically sustain, and of course a pinpoint understanding of where every actor in your action scene is at every moment during the fight. So, with that in mind, obviously the best way to research a STOMP scene is to be a professional fight choreographer. To any aspiring writers reading this – work on that. It should go right at the top of your research list. So, that works out well for about .00000001% of you. What about everyone else, including me? To write a strong action sequence […]

Are my heroines sexy?  Hell yes, but what defines Ivy, her partner Jinx, and their Hunter friend Jenna is their strength of character…and their willingness to put their own lives on the line, and kick some monster ass, to defend the weak and innocent. And they’re not the only ones. Ivy has the help of the kelpie king Ceffyl Dwr with his trident and water magic, the cat sidhe lord Torn with his network of spies and his lust for violence (if only to break the monotony of immortality), Forneus with his demonic strength, and Kaye with her witch magic.  Even the young bridge troll Marvin joins the fight, armed only with a pixie nest and a desire to save other faerie children from the […]

Girl, Please, When Did a Kiss Last Save Your Life? I’m trying to picture a scenario where kissing…outside of the kiss of life, could actually save your life, let alone sex. In fact, let’s face it, how often have you made fun of someone in an action movie stopping to have sex when they’re running for their lives? And in horror films, you know anyone doing two person push-ups onscreen will be the first to die. (Have we learned nothing from Scream?) Meanwhile, a good stomp scene could be the difference between life and death for you—besides what a rush from experiencing it secondhand—without all those nasty things like bullet holes and knife wounds. Top Ten Life-saving Things We Can Learn from the RIGHT […]

To be honest, the decision to participate in the Stomp vs Romp contest was a bit of what the Brits call a sticky wicket. For one thing, as a high school English teacher, I’m just happy if anyone reads anything other than a text message under their desk.  For another, I have a serious sarcasm disorder (it’s a sickness – I should be pitied if anything), and if I wind up torking off a huge number of readers who might have otherwise given my books a chance, I’m half convinced my agent, Michelle Johnson, will set me on fire. Speaking of doing right by my agent, my third book about John Charming, last in a long line of witch finders, dragon slayers, and enchantment […]
