Even though Finding Magic is a prequel in the Downside Ghosts series, I think that existing fans of the series will get more enjoyment out of it than someone that is new to the series. The reason is that we get to see a younger Chess and how she starts her downward slid into drug addiction and it gives you more insite into how she could have let it happen. The younger Chess is really just a slightly different version of the Chess we all know. Instead of her reaching for her pill box when her past memories get the best of her, she is reaching for a flask filled with vodka. We follow Chess through her first unofficial Church case while she is training […]

Anando takes Virginia to his home and shows her a box, allowing her to pick anything […]

Review: Something About You by Julie James

Cameron Lynde happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and inadvertently glimpsed a man who had just committed murder. She’s an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Chicago and finds herself needing witness protection as police and the FBI search for the killer. Unfortunately, the FBI Special Agent assigned to the case is Jack Pallas and the two of them have a history that’s not good. They soon find themselves dealing with new emotions that provide many moments of sexual tension that both find hard to resist. Julie James is a new author for me and I’m now an instant fan. This story is well written with a delicious mix of humor, suspense, mystery and romance. The secondary characters are also well developed and […]

Asphalt ballerina and the birth of The Meta  By Kathleen McFall (with a little help from Clark)  What happens to a Vampire’s mind at dawn? Where does it go? Imagine having a Near Death Experience (NDE) every day — floating out of your body and seeing yourself from above, then rushing off through a tunnel of light, filled with an ecstatic sense of connectedness to everyone and everything, all fear of death gone. In Blood and Whiskey, that’s exactly what happens every day for vampires as they face the dawn. Inside The Meta. We started thinking about what it might mean for vampires who have serial NDEs every day of their long, long undead lives. We created the concept of The Meta where vampire consciousness […]

Review: Fires of Winter by Johanna Lindsey

Review: Fires of Winter by Johanna Lindsey

First, Johanna Lindsey is one of my favorite authors. Second, this book is on my top 10 list. Raids, Vikings, a spit-fire heroine, a rough and tumble hero, passion, betrayal and more! Fires of Winter will hold your imagination captive from the start and take you on an adventure in Viking terrain. Lady Brenna is beautiful and strong, she faced the Vikings in battle when they came to her family’s home. However, she was captured and taken as a slave back to Norway. She is not a wilting flower by any means. In fact, one fault you could assign her would be too much pride, but it works in this romance. Garrick Haardrad is a hard warrior. As a second son, he is forced to […]
