Clara Morgan is living the dream, if you can call rebranding hotels that are desperate for a new life and running any kind of marathon a dream. Which she does. But the career she loves and the endurance races that keep her adrenaline pumping have kept her too busy to put down any roots. Growing up in foster care, she’s never been able to establish traditions of her own, which may be why she’s fascinated by the rituals that generations-old family resorts are known for. She’s especially interested in the Bryant Mountain House, and not just for their secret recipe for the yummy, gooey, can’t-get-enough-of Hot Cross Buns….

Archie Bryant, the man with the Buns, is fifth generation and one-day-owner of the charming yet run-down Bryant Mountain House in Bailey Falls, New York. He’s determined to save his family’s legacy from the wrecking ball the old-fashioned way—by gritting his teeth and doing what needs to be done. There’s no way Archie will be influenced by the new hotel branding expert his father brought in to turn one hundred and fifty years of tradition on its head just to attract a faster, younger, slicker crowd. But when some of Clara’s ideas start bringing in new, paying customers, Archie can’t deny that she may have just given him a shot at keeping his resort open.

It’s sticky, it’s messy, it’s sweet, it’s Buns.

Buns is a fun and sexy read with heart. Classic Clayton.

Buns kept me up way past my bedtime reading about Clara and Archie. They are the classic case of opposites attract. Clara has a massive chip on her shoulder about how she grew up bouncing from foster home to foster home. She doesn’t form connections in order to protect her heart. Even with her BFFs, Roxie (Nuts) and Natalie (Cream of the Crop) she holds back by being the friend who hides behind her job that keeps her on the road. Archie is as stuffy as the Bryant Mountain House hotel and resort that Clara has been hired to help get back on track.

Archie is cold to Clara at first until he realizes she is going to take a wrecking ball to his family’s legacy. Clara sees the sexy, flirt hiding behind the tortoiseshell glasses and stiff suits. Their banner in meetings over what to do with the hotel that it turns from one kind of heat to another.

I really enjoyed seeing the couples from the two previous books play supporting roles. It was fun to see the characters a large group of friends welcoming Archie into the fold.

With witty references to The Shining, Dirty Dancing and The Martian, Alice Clayton has delivered yet another hilarious romance with Buns. But it felt like the final book in this series which would make sense if it is. So far the series has been about three friends from the city finding their guys in the small town of Bailey Falls. The only bad thing about finishing up Buns is having to wait for the next novel from Clayton. She has submitted her spot on my auto read list of authors.

About Alice Clayton

Alice Clayton worked in the cosmetics industry for over a decade before picking up a pen (read: laptop). She enjoys gardening but not weeding, baking but not cleaning up, and finally convinced her long-time boyfriend to marry her. And she finally got her Bernese Mountain Dog.

Roman Crazy by Alice Clayton & Nina Bocci

I went into Roman Crazy thinking I would get classic Alice Clayton’s hilarious romantic comedy and got something else. Not a bad thing! There was humor even if it was a little scaled back. Clayton’s voice kept showing up with Daisy, Avery’s friend. She has the trade maker sassy humor I’m used to with Clayton’s writing. Roman Crazy focuses on Avery getting herself back after 9 years of marriage to a man she probably should not have married. Not just getting her groove back romantically but professionally. She finds a new love for art along with rekindling her love of a Roman god. Avery spent time in Spain with a beautiful Roman guy when she was in college and have not stopped thinking about that summer but […]

Series Catch Up: The Redhead Series by Alice Clayton

Series Catch Up: The Redhead Series by Alice Clayton

After reading Alice Clayton’s latest release, Cream of the Crop I had to get back into the world of Grace and Jack with the Redhead series. So I finally listened to the second book, The Redhead Revealed. Alice Clayton never fails to make me laugh when I’m reading/listening to her books. So I knew I had to keep up the sexy, sassy times when I put down Cream of the Crop and jumped right back into the world of the redhead. The Redhead Revealed was a little heavier on the emotions due to Grace having an early mid-life crisis. She earned her title as “crazy” when she flips her shit while thinking about the nine-year age difference between her and Jack and what it all […]

If it wasn’t for life getting it the way I would have finished Cream of the Crop in one sitting. I love getting my hands on an Alice Clayton book because I know I’m going to laugh my ass off reading it. Cream of the Crop delivered on the laughs and the holy shit hotness. We met Natalie and Oscar in the first book of the Hudson Valley series, Nuts. Natalie is best friends of the heroine of Nuts and Oscar is a neighboring farmer to Leo the hero of Nuts. Natalie is a New Yorker living in Manhattan working as an ad executive at an advertising firm. She big city, secretly dreaming of living in the country one day. Oscar is the sexy dairy farmer […]

Bees Are Assholes! Nuts by Alice Clayton

Bees Are Assholes! Nuts by Alice Clayton

Nuts by Alice Clayton is everything a woman wants in her nuts, warm, salty and lickable. Grab a hand full today! Small town gal, Roxie couldn’t get out of her upstate New York hometown, Bailey Falls fast enough. So she left at eight-teen for California and a career as a chef. Roxie cooked for the bleached and plastic in California and when one client freaked out about her dinner being a couple of minutes late and her precious nightly coffee being messed up she fires Roxie and then has her blacklisted among the rich and bitchy. (Fun cameo by Jack and Grace from Alice Clayton’s Red Head series. I need to get back to that series and finish it.) So when Roxie’s flaky Mom pulls her back home […]

The Unidentified Redhead by Alice Clayton

The Unidentified Redhead by Alice Clayton

Read It, Track It is a way for me to track books for my reading challenges and they will be super short. I was on the fence about Keili Lefkovitz narration. I loved her performance for all The Unidentified Redhead once I let it go that she didn’t even try to change her voice for all the characters or tried to voice Jack with his British accent. Normally this would have bugged the shit out of me but Keili really was the right voice for the tone of the novel. The Unidentified Redhead is a no brain needed, fun, sassy and very sexy listen. I’ve not laughed or smiled so much while listening to a romance like I did with this one. Seriously I […]

Perfect Ending! Last Call by Alice Clayton

Perfect Ending! Last Call by Alice Clayton

I adore Alice Clayton’s Cocktail series! Clayton writes some of the wittiest romances I’ve ever read. Sure they are sexy but the fun banter behind the characters is what keeps me coming back and we get it in spades with LAST CALL. While LAST CALL is generally about Caroline and Simon it’s we get updates on the previous couples, and a look into what their futures may hold. Some are married, getting married, had babies, have babies in the oven. This motley crew are growing up but some are still far from being a grown up. LOL LAST CALL has it all. Romance, wedding cake, garlic foam and Clive’s own epilogue. I’m sad to see the Cocktail series come to an end but Alice Clayton found a […]

Ginger Hunk! Mai Tai’d Up by Alice Clayton

Ginger Hunk! Mai Tai’d Up by Alice Clayton

(Points up at review title) I never thought I would call a ginger a hunk. Sorry, no offense to gingers out there! But I’ve never found a male ginger sexy. I’ve seen pretty female gingers but not males. It’s like they are unicorns. LOL But WOW Lucas sounds so yummy, his gingerness and all. Granted he is a ginger with a tan and blue eyes. Ok now that I’ve rambled and probably offended my ginger readers I’ll move on. If you judged the Cocktail series by their covers you would think the series is on the very naughty side. But honesty it’s not. Sure there’s hot moments but for the most part the couples in each book get to know each other before they hit the […]
