In this sexy new installment of Showalter's bestselling Lords of the Underworld series, the haunted Amun meets a woman who tempts him like no other...

Keeper of the demon of Secrets, Amun can manipulate the darkest thoughts of anyone nearby. But when the immortal warrior is chained and isolated to protect those he loves, death is his only hope of release—until he meets Haidee, a fellow prisoner whose beauty and hidden vulnerability draw him into a reckless test of his loyalty.

Haidee is a demon-assassin, raised to despise Amun's kind. Yet how can she hate the man whose touch sets her aflame? But to save him, she must give herself body and soul...and face the wrath of a powerful adversary sworn to destroy her.

The Darkest Secret is book 7 within the Lords of the Underworld series. Amun, the keeper of secrets, is our leading man. The heroine, Haidee, is a hunter intent on freeing the world of demons. Their romance kicks off a bit rocky. Haidee has been captured and is being held in the Lord’s dungeon, since she is the woman who killed their friend long ago. And, after some back and forth, they end up skipping off to Hell together for a mission. It is  during this time, while working together, that they get know each other and catch feelings.
I’m in love with the series, but this installment fell a little short of the mark. Up until now, Amun hasn’t had a large part in the overall arc of the series. He is seldom seen or mentioned in the previous books, which may be why it took a little why to get into his character. Also, from what was previously known and shown of Haidee made me not like her. I mean, should the reader like the woman who killed one of the demon carrying Lords, which sent a few other guys over the edge? Until this books, she was one of the “bad guys”. There certainty could have been more character development and the romance (I hate to say) was stale. The relationship between the main characters seemed forced. It did not flow naturally like Ms. Showalter’s other books.
Still, this book was a good read and I’m very happy Amun was given a happy ending. The poor demon keeping hottie deserves some love’n.

The Darkest Lie by Gena Showalter

The Darkest Lie by Gena Showalter

I had been waiting for Gideon’s story! I was so interested to see how Ms. Showalter would format the dialogue – Gideon is the keeper of lies, therefore he can only speak lies. It must have been tricky to write  and she did it perfectly.  Gideon has the average punk rocker look, complete with tattoos, piercings, blue hair (Love it!) and the attitude. He is drawn to the woman who has recently been imprisoned in his dungeon, but doesn’t know why. He struggles to remember how he knows her, but can sense in his heart that their paths had crossed before. Scarlett is a very strong female lead, characters like her always make me happy. She has been searching for the man she believes had […]

The Darkest Passion is the fifth book within the Lords of the Underworld series and to sum it up with one word – compelling. This is far my favorite book within the series. Aeron…Oh-my-GOD!!!! Aeron is possess by the demon of Wrath. Violence is his middle name and has been marked for assassination by the angels. Olivia was sent by the leader of the angels to kill Aeron, but as she watches him she falls head over heels for him. Risking everything, she falls from Heaven just to be near him. At first, Aeron wants nothing to do with the bloodied woman who he found wandering the mountain calling his name. But Olivia never gives up. She peruses him and seduces him. I love […]

The Closer You Come by Gena Showalter

The Closer You Come by Gena Showalter

The Original Heartbreakers is a brand new contemporary romance series by Gena Showalter.  I have always wanted to read her books and in fact, have several of them.  But The Closer You Come was the first time I actually read one. There is a prequel novella,  The One You Want (The Original Heartbreaks #0.5) which was free on March 1 if you preordered it. So I did.  I gave it 3 stars. It sets up the story but it pressed too many of my billionaire man-whore meets poor, hardworking girl buttons. As a novella, some things seemed to happen too quickly to be believable. The Original Heartbreakers series is set in the small town of Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma, where everyone knows everyone.  This is a pain and a […]

Dark Taste of Rapture by Gena Showalter

Dark Taste of Rapture by Gena Showalter

First Thought Dark Taste of Rapture left me wanting more of this world! the romance Noelle and Hector is a great couple. Both are strong and  vulnerable. Noelle is cocky and keeps people at arm’s length with her snark and dumb, rich girl act. But Hector sees right through it. The two can’t stay away from each other at first until Hector shuts their attraction down by telling Noelle not to ever speak to him again. Hector, like Noelle, keeps people from getting close to him. But for a different reason. He can kill with just one touch if his emotions are out of control. Hector doesn’t touch anyone and all he wants to do is touch Noelle, all over. Noelle and […]

Heroine with an unhealthy obsession with butterscotch! Ecstasy in Darkness by Gena Showalter

First Thought Gena Showalter continues to entertain me with her sexy aliens. the writing I love that Showalter throws in a few hits at Kresley Cole’s IAD series in Ecstasy in Darkness. She also did it in the previous novella, Tempt Me Eternally.  But it’s, even more, fitting, this time, around since the heroine, Ava and her BFF Noelle act much like Cole’s Valkyries. Showalter’s writing is well around with action sequences to go with her sexy charged romp scenes. She also brings humor and snark to the table as well. the world I love the world in the Alien Huntress series. Showalter explains that all the supes in this world are actually aliens from different worlds and dimensions. There’s some new (at least to […]

Tempt Me Eternally by Gena Showalter

Originally published in DEEP KISS OF WINTER along with Untouchable (Immortals After Dark #8) by Kresley Cole. First let me say that TEMPT ME ETERNALLY is labeled as 4.5 in the Alien Huntress series but it really should be labeled as 3.5 since the story takes place before the events in book 4, SEDUCE THE DARKNESS. You could read it in either order but I think it you would get more out of it if you read it before SEDUCE THE DARKNESS since Aleaha and Breean are already a couple in SEDUCE. Plus you give background on Aleaha’s character that will help you out in SEDUCE. TEMPT ME ETERNALLY is almost novel length and has the same punch as a full length novel. I […]

Amanda’s Thoughts on The Darkest Whisper by Gena Showalter

THE DARKEST WHISPER is the fourth book within the Lords of the Underworld series. It focuses on Sabin, the keeper of Doubt. For the past couple hundred years, he has lead a separate group of the Lords of the Underworld and he will do anything to save his brothers from the human hunters that want to destroy the Lords. He was the typical alpha male, but he had his sensitive moments and I really liked his character. Sabin located one of the hunter’s strong holds and after launching an attack he finds a beautiful redheaded captive that, sadly, the hunters had been experimenting on/torturing. Gwen is timid and tries her best to hide her darker side. As a Harpy, her strength rivals even the Lords of the […]
