Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she's used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family's detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor "Mad" Rogan.

Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada's "talent." But there's no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice . .

I admit I am totally biased. This is the one and only author I auto-buy everything. I have some of their books in 3 formats: print, ebook and audio! They never let me down. Why do I love them so much? Somehow they infuse their world and characters with quirky details, relatable situations and feelings. There are multiple plot lines: the mystery, the action, the ongoing world-building and some romance. But even in a romance book – they don’t really need sex! Because the story is sooooooooo amazing!  Although I appreciate sex and romance.

Not only do they write great books but they are wonderful people, real people. I was lucky enough to meet them at NOLA Storycon in September 2016.

I pre-ordered White Hot awhile back and I think it got cancelled. Now I pre-ordered White Hot and Wildfire in November 2016, as soon as I knew links were available.  To prepare for this eARC, I “re-read” Burn for Me on audio in December 2016 . It was my first experience with Renee Raudman and a pleasure. I think I’ll have to read everything first before audio just because I can read faster and I can’t wait.

White Hot picks up right after Burn for Me and jumps into action immediately. We learn more about Nevada’s family, Rogan and Augustine, Bug, the magical community and meet a few new players. It’s intensely fascinating. And I feel Nevada so much. She has deep compassion and sticks to her principles when it isn’t easy. Nevada and Rogan continue to fight the good fight and have each other’s back. It ends with a breather before the next HUGE battle.

The Hidden Legacy series is a must read trilogy. The final book Wildfire will be available July 2017. I was reading it within minutes of getting the eARC. I have no willpower and no desire to have willpower. Go read and enjoy!

About Ilona Andrews

“Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

They have co-authored two NYT and USAT bestselling series, the urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge and working on the next volumes for both.

Release Day Review: One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews

Release Day Review: One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews

The Innkeeper Chronicles is a different sort of series by my favorite, favorite author. This series is posted first online in a somewhat weekly serial, for FREE, until publication. One Fell Sweep is the first one I managed to read along; I tend to prefer to read it all together, which I did with the ARC.  Ilona Andrews NEVER disappoints. All their series, every book is so well-written, with such interesting world-building, characters who become real to me, and stories which take control of my emotions. This is intellectually satisfying with the great world-building, where we continue to learn about how things work. There is also the mystery or current dilemma facing our characters. One Fell Sweep added new creatures, new characters and very […]

Kate Daniels is my FAVORITE series by my FAVORITE authors and this is just another piece of evidence why. It starts with the characters. There are many and their depth and growth continues as does my love (or hate) for them. It’s not so black or white; there are shades of feelings about them, even about one character. They are just so comfortable and precious to me, with their complexities. Those layers provide a wealth of feelings. Kate, I love your intelligence and spirit, your moral fiber and compassion. You are a better person than many will ever be. Magic Binds was set to be about your marriage to Curran. Of course, it is so much more. Curran was developed more, […]

Novella – Origins by Ilona Andrews

Novella – Origins by Ilona Andrews

This is a novella which was originally part of an anthology, Angels of Darkness, released in October 4, 2011 by Berkley. Origins was just released on its own. I polished it off in a couple of hours. As one would expect, something by Ilona Andrews would be well-written enough to hold attention. This was tense and somewhat fast-moving. As with any new world, there were the details to learn and understand. I often take the feel of the main character. Karina was brave and smart; I think she was unrealistically so. I couldn’t believe she could manage so much of what she did. I felt more confused and unsettled, than caring, amused, enlightened or uplifted. It went too fast and ended too quickly to […]

Read It, Track It Is A Way For Me To Track Books For My Reading Challenges And The Reviews Will Be Super Short. I love the team of Ilona Andrews whether I read their words or listen to Renée Raudman bring them to life for me. Renée Raudman did an outstanding job with the narration. I especially loved her performance for the Nuans, the fox-like creatures. Her voice for them paired with Andrews’ description made them so adorable. I also enjoyed Raudman’s voice for Orro, his over-dramatic personality shined through Raudman’s narration. I can’t wait for the next story in the Innkeeper Chronicles series by Andrews. Check out Anne’s review. About Renée Raudman Renée Raudman is a multi-award-winning audiobook narrator. A multiple Audie Award nominee, she […]

KATE DANIELS FANS MUST READ MAGIC STARS!   I don’t know how to start this review without spoiling you guys. It was so good. So. Good. I’ve had my head in textbooks the last few weeks so I didn’t know that Magic Stars was even a thing. Then I see Jen over at Red Hot Books talking about it on Twitter. When I found out that story was from Derek’s POV and it had Julie in it too, I was like . . . Derek has had a rough life, he had to kill his father after he turned loup. But Curran saved and trained him. Then Derek worked for Jim as a spy of sorts because he was so handsome, […]

Ilona Andrews never disappoints.  I reread Clean Sweep and then went right into reading this.  This serial is also published free on the author’s website over time. After complete, they remove it and publish it.  As much as I LOVE their stories, I can’t seem to read it as a serial. Probably because the waiting would kill me. Somehow it’s easier to wait until it’s complete.  That makes no sense, especially since I came back to avid reading through fanfiction. (I did start reading fanfiction in installments, but then switched over to only reading completed stories. I mean – some people didn’t finish their stories. I HATE that.) Clean Sweep was funnier and more romantic, although the romance is very little here.  And of […]

Audio Review | Magic Shifts by Ilona Andrews

If you’re not up to date on the Kate Daniels series there might be spoilers ahead for the series but none for Magic Shifts. You can take Beast Lord out of the Pack but you can’t keep the Pack away from the Beast Lord or the Consort. I love how Kate and Curran can’t get away from the Pack even by moving to the suburbs. Pack members keep popping up when Kate least expects them and how she reacts is priceless. For most of the series, Kate has been trying to learn the rules of being part of the Pack and living with them. Now that she and Curran are no longer living in the Keep, it’s Curran’s turn to learn what it means to […]
