Dina DeMille may run the nicest Bed and Breakfast in Red Deer, Texas, but she caters to a very particular kind of guest… the kind that no one on Earth is supposed to know about. Guests like a former intergalactic tyrant with an impressive bounty on her head, the Lord Marshal of a powerful vampire clan, and a displaced-and-superhot werewolf; so don’t stand too close, or you may be collateral damage.

But what passes for Dina’s normal life is about to be thrown into chaos. First, she must rescue her long-distant older sister, Maud, who’s been exiled with her family to a planet that functions as the most lawless penal colony since Botany Bay. Then she agrees to help a guest whose last chance at saving his civilization could bring death and disaster to all Dina holds dear. Now Gertrude Hunt is under siege by a clan of assassins. To keep her guests safe and to find her missing parents, Dina will risk everything, even if she has to pay the ultimate price. Though Sean may have something to say about that!

The Innkeeper Chronicles is a different sort of series by my favorite, favorite author. This series is posted first online in a somewhat weekly serial, for FREE, until publication. One Fell Sweep is the first one I managed to read along; I tend to prefer to read it all together, which I did with the ARC.  Ilona Andrews NEVER disappoints. All their series, every book is so well-written, with such interesting world-building, characters who become real to me, and stories which take control of my emotions.

This is intellectually satisfying with the great world-building, where we continue to learn about how things work. There is also the mystery or current dilemma facing our characters. One Fell Sweep added new creatures, new characters and very interesting information on vampires and innkeepers. Our favorite characters, plus new loved ones are here. Helen, Maud and the Hiru, and yes, the Ku, all hold places in my heart now.

I’ve always been half in love with Arland, especially when he’s drinking coffee. *snickers* This time we really get to know more about him, but we also see much, much more of Sean. Finally, there is more of a sense of who he is. Despite some difficult issues and dire situations happening, I found myself laughing multiple times. There were also tears and great joy providing emotional satisfaction.

What else is there to say? It’s amazing. The series is 5 stars throughout. These are only ebooks I have with some graphics which is fun. FYI: There are a few more details in the book which I don’t remember being in the online serial. Highly recommended.

About Ilona Andrews

“Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

They have co-authored two NYT and USAT bestselling series, the urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge and working on the next volumes for both.

Kate Daniels is my FAVORITE series by my FAVORITE authors and this is just another piece of evidence why. It starts with the characters. There are many and their depth and growth continues as does my love (or hate) for them. It’s not so black or white; there are shades of feelings about them, even about one character. They are just so comfortable and precious to me, with their complexities. Those layers provide a wealth of feelings. Kate, I love your intelligence and spirit, your moral fiber and compassion. You are a better person than many will ever be. Magic Binds was set to be about your marriage to Curran. Of course, it is so much more. Curran was developed more, […]

Novella – Origins by Ilona Andrews

Novella – Origins by Ilona Andrews

Posted May 14, 2016 by Anne in Book Review | 4 Comments

This is a novella which was originally part of an anthology, Angels of Darkness, released in October 4, 2011 by Berkley. Origins was just released on its own. I polished it off in a couple of hours. As one would expect, something by Ilona Andrews would be well-written enough to hold attention. This was tense and somewhat fast-moving. As with any new world, there were the details to learn and understand. I often take the feel of the main character. Karina was brave and smart; I think she was unrealistically so. I couldn’t believe she could manage so much of what she did. I felt more confused and unsettled, than caring, amused, enlightened or uplifted. It went too fast and ended too quickly to […]

Read It, Track It Is A Way For Me To Track Books For My Reading Challenges And The Reviews Will Be Super Short. I love the team of Ilona Andrews whether I read their words or listen to Renée Raudman bring them to life for me. Renée Raudman did an outstanding job with the narration. I especially loved her performance for the Nuans, the fox-like creatures. Her voice for them paired with Andrews’ description made them so adorable. I also enjoyed Raudman’s voice for Orro, his over-dramatic personality shined through Raudman’s narration. I can’t wait for the next story in the Innkeeper Chronicles series by Andrews. Check out Anne’s review. About Renée Raudman Renée Raudman is a multi-award-winning audiobook narrator. A multiple Audie Award nominee, she […]

KATE DANIELS FANS MUST READ MAGIC STARS!   I don’t know how to start this review without spoiling you guys. It was so good. So. Good. I’ve had my head in textbooks the last few weeks so I didn’t know that Magic Stars was even a thing. Then I see Jen over at Red Hot Books talking about it on Twitter. When I found out that story was from Derek’s POV and it had Julie in it too, I was like . . . Derek has had a rough life, he had to kill his father after he turned loup. But Curran saved and trained him. Then Derek worked for Jim as a spy of sorts because he was so handsome, […]

Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews

Ilona Andrews never disappoints.  I reread Clean Sweep and then went right into reading this.  This serial is also published free on the author’s website over time. After complete, they remove it and publish it.  As much as I LOVE their stories, I can’t seem to read it as a serial. Probably because the waiting would kill me. Somehow it’s easier to wait until it’s complete.  That makes no sense, especially since I came back to avid reading through fanfiction. (I did start reading fanfiction in installments, but then switched over to only reading completed stories. I mean – some people didn’t finish their stories. I HATE that.) Clean Sweep was funnier and more romantic, although the romance is very little here.  And of […]

Audio Review | Magic Shifts by Ilona Andrews

If you’re not up to date on the Kate Daniels series there might be spoilers ahead for the series but none for Magic Shifts. You can take Beast Lord out of the Pack but you can’t keep the Pack away from the Beast Lord or the Consort. I love how Kate and Curran can’t get away from the Pack even by moving to the suburbs. Pack members keep popping up when Kate least expects them and how she reacts is priceless. For most of the series, Kate has been trying to learn the rules of being part of the Pack and living with them. Now that she and Curran are no longer living in the Keep, it’s Curran’s turn to learn what it means to […]

Magic Shifts by Ilona Andrews

I admit, I’m biased as the Kate Daniels series is my FAVORITE.  But c’mon, it’s full of awesome, and has everything one needs in a great book.  There are characters who feel real, adventures and battles, mysteries and humor, a family and romance. There is not much I can say that has not been said before and without total gushing and awed devotion. Everyone on Earth should have been able to hear the screams of excitement when I got my copy of Magic Shifts (or anything by Ilona Andrews). The humor is really important to me.  I like the kind of style displayed in the giggle worthy quote. It’s based on knowledge and acceptance of the characters, who they are and their foibles.  Ghastek was brief in […]
