Conquering a supernatural realm turned out to be easier than getting over a broken heart. But her initial victory has made Ivy a target for revenge, forcing her to reunite with the dangerous—and dangerously sexy—Adrian. Ivy isn't sure which will be harder: finding the hallowed weapon that will repair the crumbling walls between the demon and human realms, or resisting Adrian, who's decided that come hell or high water, he will make Ivy his.

At first, Adrian tried to resist his feelings for Ivy. Now, determined to break the curse that dooms their love, he's vowed to save her and to have her. If only he can persuade her to forgive his past sins. But defying destiny—and surrendering to the smoldering desire between them—will bring consequences and sacrifices they never imagined…

I listened to The Beautiful Ashes as a “reread” right before getting The Sweetest Burn.  I was able to get both in digital audio from the library.

I was excited to see how they progressed with finding the second artifact. I expected Ivy and Adrian to learn and grow in their pursuit and to further their relationship as they worked together to save the world. These things sort of happened.

Neither Ivy or Adrian seemed to learn or grow very much. Ivy’s whining about everything at Zach and her internal rambling were annoying. Adrian at least spent his time preparing Brutus for their mission. Both of them are so childish in their actions and seem to lack skills or guts to communicate with each other in an honest, mature way. Ivy’s attachment to Adrian seems stubborn and rather fickle. The relationship progresses, though.

The other characters, Zach, Jasmine, and Kosta are barely developed. They revolve around Ivy and Adrian with limited impact. We do learn more about both Ivy and Adrian’s backgrounds. The aspects of the world are changed and unfolded, too.  When Ivy fights, it feels more like panic and desperation, rather than courage and fortitude. With her limited experience, this is realistic but I’d at least like to see some faith and strength.  Adrian has more confidence, experience and skill in battle.

Tavia Gilbert is Ivy’s voice to me. She felt right and comfortable in this role. Adrian seemed to have a sort of Russian accent and not the sound the same as he did in The Beautiful Ashes which was awkward. The others were fine, but not prominent enough in the story to matter.

The search and save the world part of the plot went slowly and not as smart as I prefer, but had interesting aspects. I was just so annoyed by the main characters and their personal relationship here.  The last book in the Broken Destiny series is The Brightest Embers, projected for November 28, 2017. I’m sure I will read or listen to it, with hopes that it will improve the trilogy.

Into the Fire by Jeaniene Frost

Into the Fire by Jeaniene Frost

Into the Fire felt more like a start to a new beginning than and ending… I am sorry to say that Into the Fire broke the 5 star record for the Night Prince series for me. Like other fans, I could not wait to get my hands on Vlad’s final book, but something was missing and I cannot put my finger on it. That’s not to say that Into the Fire was not enjoyable, it was. I think the wait and anticipation was too high so the ending of the series was a little anticlimactic. I wish I had taken the time to do a series reread because I went Into the Fire not remembering where we left off with the previous book, Bound by […]

Another 5 Stars for Vlad! Bound by Flames by Jeaniene Frost

Another 5 Stars for Vlad! Bound by Flames by Jeaniene Frost

Just like the previous books in the Night Prince series, BOUND BY FLAMES is a 5 star read because Vlad never fails to rock my world!! Vlad is just as savage as always when it comes to protecting the people he cares for and never more so than when Leila is in danger! While Vlad is awesome all on his own I’ve got to give Leila a huge shout out! She really came into her power and grew as a strong heroine in BOUND BY FLAMES. Leila is still young in human years and just a baby to her new vampire life. She’s quit and shy in some aspects and still second guesses herself and her worth to Vlad. She can’t believe […]

Chatting with Jeaniene Frost about Vlad and the Holidays

Chatting with Jeaniene Frost about Vlad and the Holidays

It’s our great pleasure in welcoming Jeanine Frost to The Book Nympho today! Thank you so much for having me, and happy holidays to you and to everyone reading this! How do you prefer to do your Holiday shopping, in stores with all the crazy people or online? Online. I used to brave the malls on Black Friday, but in recent years, things have gotten a little hairy. I want to get a good deal as much as the next person, but I don’t want it enough to physically fight for it, which seems to be the new requirement if you’re shopping the day (or weekend) after Thanksgiving. A lot of people pick one or more New Year’s Resolutions, do you have any […]

An Audio Review of The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost

An Audio Review of The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost

Jonetta reviewed THE BEAUTIFUL ASHES last month on release day. I knew I was going to read it myself but when I got the chance to review the audio I jumped on it for two reasons. Time, it was going to be a while before I could work reading the book into my schedule and since I can listen to audios at work I knew I could get to it faster. Reason two, Tavia Gilbert is the narrator and I’ve enjoyed her narration of other Jeaniene Frost books. While I’ve enjoyed Tavia as Cat, Vlad, Ian and Bones I felt like a different narrator might have been a better choice. Why? Because THE BEAUTIFUL ASHES is set in a new world with new characters and […]

Audio Review: Up From the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Audio Review: Up From the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

You really should read Home for the Holidays and Twice Tempted before reading Up From the Grave. But if you don’t mind a spoiler for Twice Tempted or a “when did we find that out” moment when something is mentioned that was revealed in Home for the Holidays then you can go ahead and read Up From the Grave. I love the Night Huntress series. Especially books 1-4. I’ve reread them 3 times and would have read them a 4th for the ending but I read out of reading time.  So it pains me to say that Up From the Grave was my not favorite book in the series but I did enjoy it more than the previous book, One Grave at a Time. Frost managed to wrap […]

Review: Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost

Review: Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost

I was up until the early hours of the morning finishing Eternal Kiss of Darkness. I haven’t come across a book this addicting in a while. Kira was a fantastic heroine. She is brave and certain of herself. I absolutely love how the  main characters met – Kira saves Mencheres’s life and in turn her saves hers by giving her some of his blood and whisking her away to his home. He plans on erasing her memories of him, but is unable to and as time goes by he realizes he doesn’t want to. Their romance and relationship building was perfectly paced while their personalities complimented each other. I enjoyed their easy conversations and their chemistry – this couple was HOT! The  down side was the “bad guy”. I felt like […]
