Some young ladies marry for money and social standing, a few lucky ones marry for love—but Tiffany Warren is marrying to end a feud. Honoring her mother’s promise, Tiffany reluctantly travels west to meet her estranged father and his enemy’s eldest son, rancher Hunter Callahan. Once the Warrens and the Callahans are united by marriage, both clans will stop squabbling over a disputed strip of land. In the chaos of a train robbery Tiffany seizes a golden opportunity: By assuming the identity of her father’s new housekeeper she can live with the father she never knew and assess his true character, as well as that of the neighboring cowboy to whom she is betrothed. But, too late, Tiffany discovers that the rivalry between the Warrens and the Callahans has escalated when the Callahans steal the Warrens’ housekeeper as soon as she steps off the train!

Now, Tiffany, who is pretending to be Jennifer Fleming, finds herself living in the enemy camp, under the same roof as her fiancé. All too soon she learns her intended is a handsome, sweet talking charmer whom she has to fight off because he can’t keep his eyes—or his hands—off Jennifer. After Tiffany’s charade is exposed she refuses to marry Hunter to end the feud. As Hunter goes about claiming his rightful bride-to-be, he knows that although he loves two women—proper, elegant Tiffany as well as spunky, passionate Jennifer—he has only one heart to win.

As you know, I am a Johanna Lindsey fan. I own every book. I lean towards her medieval and Viking era novels, but her cowboy books are awesome too.

One Heart to Win in her 50th romance novel! Though this book wasn’t as strong as some of her previous work and was a bit of a historical romance cliché, it was still a lovely read.

The Warrens and Callahans have been locked in a land/water feud for three generations. As hot blood ranchers, neither side is willing to back down. So, naturally fiery Tiffany Warren and smooth talker, Hunter Callahan should get married. Tiffany was raised in New York and wants absolutely nothing to do with her father’s feud. Nor does she want anything to do with Hunter. She agrees to head out to Montana territory please her mother, but that doesn’t mean she is going to play by the rules. When she is approached by the Callahan brothers she agrees to be hired on at their ranch as a housekeeper. She feels this will be the perfect way to learn about her fiance. She wants to get to know the real him and quickly learns, he is flirt.

Hunter is immediately taken by the sharp-tongued red-head. He quickly finds himself torn between family honor and the woman he has grown to love. Should he refuse to marry the Warren girl and be happy or should he keep his feelings locked away and end the feud?

There is drama, a little action, and some light romance. As I said, there were cliché elements and the heat between the main characters could have been…spicier. Overall, I was an easy summer read. A great book to sit by the pool with.

Review: Surrender My Love by Johanna Lindsey

This book really takes me back. Surrender My Love is the first romance novel I ever read. Previously, I had read YA paranormal, but one summer I was super board, home alone, and came upon this book. I’ve always loved history, especially the Viking period, and decided to give this a try. My affair with romance novels, historical or otherwise, has been going strong ever since. Surrender My Love is the third installment and is one of my favorite romances of all time. The deliciously sexy, dark, and stacked Viking, Selig is ambushed and accused of being a spy. As he is being held prisoner, his only thought is of revenge.  Lady Erika’s life was ordered and structured until a Viking is drug into her brother’s dungeon.  Now, she […]

As some of you already know, I’m a huge Johanna Lindsey fan and her Haardrad Vikings Family trilogy is my favorite Viking series! These are in my “go to” list for feel good books. If I’m having a hard day or stressed out, these books are an amazing escape. Kristen Haardrad is the daughter of couple of the first book, Fires of Winter. She sneaks aboard a Viking ship that is ambushed. With her brother thought dead, she yearns for revenge. Held prisoner, she tries to disguise herself as a boy and does get away with it for a little while.  But when it is discovered that she is a woman, she draws the interest of the Royce of Wyndhurst.  Royce hates the Vikings and rightly so, since they slaughtered […]

I must tell you all that if you are not familiar with the Malory family, you may be a little lost since some parts of plot tie into previous books. That being said, The Present is a warm holiday read and I highly recommend the Malory books to anyone who love historical settings, dashing lords, feisty ladies, and wonderful romance. The Malory clan gather for the holidays and, just like with any family get together, there is some drama. A journal is discovered and they soon discover dark secrets of their family’s past as they read the romance between Marquis, Christopher Malory, and a beautiful gypsy woman, Anastasia. The story of Christopher and Anastasia brings together Jason Malory and Molly, a family servant, who have […]

This author/series is listed amongst my favorite top 5 and occasionally I enjoy re-reading these books. The other day, I selected this one and was immediately swept away into a different time. 1844 London Kelsey Langton is a wonderful character. She is willing to do absolutely anything to save her family from financial ruin. And I really do mean anything – she agrees to auction herself at “house of ill-repute” to a stranger with the intentions of becoming his mistress. Derek Malory is the average, good-looking, aristocrat that has no interest in 1.buying a woman and 2. having a mistress. But when he notices a man he knows for fact is twisted and enjoys abusing his women, he bids on the lovely lady standing on […]

Review: Fires of Winter by Johanna Lindsey

First, Johanna Lindsey is one of my favorite authors. Second, this book is on my top 10 list. Raids, Vikings, a spit-fire heroine, a rough and tumble hero, passion, betrayal and more! Fires of Winter will hold your imagination captive from the start and take you on an adventure in Viking terrain. Lady Brenna is beautiful and strong, she faced the Vikings in battle when they came to her family’s home. However, she was captured and taken as a slave back to Norway. She is not a wilting flower by any means. In fact, one fault you could assign her would be too much pride, but it works in this romance. Garrick Haardrad is a hard warrior. As a second son, he is forced to […]
