When the battle is done . . .
The Emperor unleashes hell and annihilates an army, jeopardizing the future of mankind--but Circe strikes back. The epic clash between them devastates the Arcana world and nearly kills Evie, separating her from her allies.

And all hope is lost . . .
With Aric missing and no sign that Jack and Selena escaped Richter's reach, Evie turns more and more to the darkness lurking inside her. Two Arcana emerge as game changers: one who could be her salvation, the other her worst nightmare.

Vengeance becomes everything.
To take on Richter, Evie must reunite with Death and mend their broken bond. But as she learns more about her role in the future--and her chilling past--will she become a monster like the Emperor? Or can Evie and her allies rise up from Richter's ashes, stronger than ever before?

The team of Cole and Galvin continues to deliver mind-blowing stories to my earbuds!

The Arcana Chronicles is a unique series and I’m always excited to get my hands on a new installment. I get so wrapped up in the story and the characters that everything else just falls away. Total immersion happens when I listen to Emma Galvin deliver an award winning performance.

Arcana Rising brings us one book closer to the series wrapping up (sobs), it also answered some questions from previous books but left enough unanswered that we will have a plate full of goodness when Cole comes back with The Dark Calling in Spring of 2107. And yes it ends with a cliffhanger but if you’re a fan of this series you shouldn’t be surprised. Each book ends with one. So if you’ve not started the series I recommend you holding on until closer to the release of the last book and then binge read/listen to it if you don’t like to wait between books.

The Wait for the LAST book, The Dark Calling will be long.

Speaking of cliffhangers, the one that Cole left us with from Dead of Winter will get addressed. That’s it. I’m saying nothing else so that I don’t spoil anyone. Some will be happy, some might not be. (#TeamDeath here!) The world that Cole has built is so complex, with engaging characters and magnificent world building.

****SPOILER**** ONLY READ IF YOU HAVE READ THE BOOK!!!******SPOILER****

The Minor Arcana is talked about more Arcana Rising and I think they will play a big part in the next book. Also, we learn that one of the Major Arcana is not what they appear to be and that has to be a big part of the next book. So many options for the finale. I have so many theories (one I shared in the spoiler above).

Day Zero by Kresley Cole

Day Zero by Kresley Cole

I love the letter at the front of Day Zero from Cole that involves a SPOILER WARNING. She says she cannot deny nor confirm something that fans of the series have been speculating about one of the characters. I won’t say what that is so that I don’t spoil anyone reading this review that has not started the series yet. I just wanted to let you know what Day Zero should not be read as a prequel! I had no idea that Day Zero was a companion guide to the Arcana Chronicles. I thought it was just a novella giving us the story from other characters’ POVs. But it’s both actually. We get info about the major arcana and snippets from some their […]

The Player by Kresley Cole

The Player by Kresley Cole

Posted July 15, 2016 by Jennifer in Book Review | 8 Comments

Kresley Cole manages to take lust-at-first-sight and turn it into love with her couples in The Game Maker series. Much like the other two Sevastyan brothers, Dmitri knows he has met his soul mate in Victoria when he sees her for the first time. If you can suspend your disbelief that people can fall so hard for each other within a few days you can fully enjoy The Player. If you can’t then this series may not be for you, but I ask if you can’t suspend your disbelief why are you reading fiction anyway?! Sure with romances like this the guy can come off as a creeper when he is obsessed so fast with the woman and Dmitri straddled that line but then there were also moments where […]

Audio Review: Sweet Ruin by Kresley Cole

Audio Review: Sweet Ruin by Kresley Cole

Posted December 16, 2015 by Jennifer in Book Review | 2 Comments

There’s been some talk from other readers that Sweet Ruin felt different from the other books in the IAD series. I don’t understand where that’s coming from. Jo and Rune’s story fits perfectly into the world; they are like every other couple that’s been featured. I love the humor that Cole puts into this series. A twelve-year-old Jo telling a three-old-Thaddie to tit-pinch an older woman for taking care of them is just funny as hell. I almost died at all the Axe cologne references. Jo (and maybe Kresley Cole) hates the stuff and I’m with her! The heroines of the IAD world are snarky and dangerous. And the males are always full of themselves. Sweet Ruin is full of Cole’s trademark snark […]

Read It, Track It – Shadow’s Claim by Kresley Cole

Read It, Track It – Shadow’s Claim by Kresley Cole

Posted April 29, 2015 by Jennifer in Book Review | 6 Comments

Read It, Track It is a way for me to track books for my reading challenges and they will be super short. I skipped over Shadow’s Claim to catch up on the IAD series since it was labeled as a “spin-off”. It really should be read/listened to in order with the IAD series. The events happen parallel to the time line of Lothaire. Trehan Daciano is Lothaire’s cousin and we get to see a little of Lothaire and his bride and it was fun to see the couple again. There is also mention of others from the IAD series, like the main couple in Dark Skye (IAD #14). And the cray cray dark-haired valkyrie, know as the ever knowing.   The team of Cole […]

¡Dios mío! The Master by Kresley Cole

¡Dios mío! The Master by Kresley Cole

First Thought Whether it’s YA, Paranormal Romance or Erotica Romance, Kresley Cole never fails to bring her A game. I’ve come to expect 100% Guarantee satisfaction when it has the name Cole attached to it. The Plot Pretty Woman, Kresley Cole style. Catarina (Cat) is down on her luck and on the run from her husband. She never stays in one place longer than six months. Why? because her husband, Edwards wants to kill her. Maksimilian is a million/billionaire (depending on how the market is doing that day) Russian mob boss and brother to Aleksandr (hero from book 1, The Professional). Mak is not quite as scary as Aleksandr but he can still command a room and is feared. Now here comes the Pretty […]

A Hard Choice! Dead of Winter by Kresley Cole

A Hard Choice! Dead of Winter by Kresley Cole

Posted January 9, 2015 by Jennifer in Book Review | 11 Comments

DEAD OF WINTER was on the top of my most anticipated listens for 2015 and the team of Cole and Galvin delivered! But I had to take away one star from my normal 5 stars for this series because of the love triangle. Not that it was bad! Yes this is an element in the series that needed to be addressed but maybe not for about 70% of the book. But have no fear Kresley Cole wrote it well. Sure there was some angst but it was not whiny. In most love triangles I’ve read there is a clear front-runner (at least for me). Cole has made it hard for Evie (and me) to pick which guy she should be with. Just when I think I’ve picked […]

It All Started Here! The Warlord Wants Forever by Kresley Cole

It All Started Here! The Warlord Wants Forever by Kresley Cole

Posted August 19, 2014 by Jonetta in Book Review | 14 Comments

This is the prequel to the series, a short story involving Myst and Nikolai Wroth. Myst is known throughout the world as the most beautiful Valkyrie, part chillingly fierce warrior, part beguiling seductress who can “make you want her even as she’s killing you.” She has devoted her life to protecting an ancient, powerful jewel and to fighting the vampires, and she now sees a way to torment one—for with Wroth’s heartbeat comes consuming sexual desire that can only be slaked by her. I found it to be an interesting story and premise for the series but it went on sexual overload near the end. As I’ve already read the second book in the series, I highly recommend reading this first as you have a […]
