How to Christmas Shop for a Pixie

How to Christmas Shop for a Pixie (namely Minka Winslow)

By Gage Hudson, vampire and Gotham City Collector

  1. Buy sparkly things. Pixies, like their fae cousins, love sparkly things. Minka is no exception. Diamonds or rhinestones, sequins or glitter, doesn’t matter as long as it sparkles.
  2. Go for the edgy gift. Weapons are always a good choice. Especially knives that can be tucked into a boot or hidden up a sleeve.
  3. Invest in sweets. Chocolates, good chocolates – the fancy kind with gold flecks and exotic fruit flavors – those pretty much get eaten the same day they’re opened. Did I mention pixies have a sweet tooth?

Do Not:

  1. Buy perfume, unless you want it dumped down the sink. Pixies aren’t big on artificial scents but they are brutally honest. If they don’t like your gift, you’ll know it. Immediately.
  2. Buy anything with bells, real or otherwise. Look, it’s Christmas and there’s stuff with bells all over the place – bracelets, sweaters, bell shaped candy – just don’t. Pixies seriously hate bells. LOATHE them. The sound of bells can kill a pixie, so it’s easy to see why, right?
  3. Try to lie about where you hid the gifts. If a pixie really wants to find out where the presents are, they’ll just dust you (pixie dust is like a truth serum) and get the info out of you that way. For this reason, I suggest shopping Christmas Eve.

Double or Nothing (Sin City Collectors #6)
by Kristen Painter

Welcome to Las Vegas, home of the Sin City Collectors. The job description is easy: Bring the offending supernatural in to the Boss and don’t ask any questions.

Gage Hudson is a vampire on a mission. All he wants—all he’s ever wanted—is to locate the vampire who killed his brother and exact his revenge. Even if that means losing his job as a Gotham City Collector. And he knows what loss feels like, because his desire for revenge has already cost him the love of his life.

Sin City Collector and pixie Minka Winslow has revenge fantasies of her own and they all involve Gage. When he walked out on her with no explanation, she took the heat for the Collection he ruined. Fortunately for him, she’s put that part of her life behind her.

At least until the two are forced to work together to stay alive. When an enemy from their past returns to threaten them, they have no choice but to reconcile long enough to survive. Then new information changes everything. Just how much will they gamble to make things work this time?

What’s Collected in Vegas, stays in Vegas…

*All Sin City Collectors Novellas are stand alone novellas, all set within the world of the SCC. Our goal is for you to sit back and enjoy the ride as each author presents their unique story. About Kristen Painter

A little about me: I’m a former college English teacher, but I’ve held a crazy mix of other jobs including maitre’d for Wolfgang Puck, personal trainer, and sales for Christian Dior Bijoux. On the writing side of things, I’m a two-time Golden Heart finalist and have been on the board of three different RWA chapters. What can I say? I like getting involved. I’m not adverse to bossing people around either.

I have a *slight* shoe addiction and occasionally indulge in an unnecessary handbag. Hah! That was a joke. There is no such thing as an unnecessary handbag. I love make up and jewelry and spa days. Yes, I’m a girly girl. But don’t think that makes me weak. I can (and do) kill off characters with the best of them. Speaking of which…

My forays into writing have been as varied as the jobs I’ve held. I’ve written poetry, articles for magazines, short stories, paranormal romances (that include fantasy, contemporary and steampunk genres) and now I’ve found a home with urban fantasy. I love worldbuilding and few genres give you the kind of license urban fantasy does.

I’m also the co-founder of the award-winning writer’s site

I live in FL with my retired Air Force husband and a horde of feline dependents. I’m represented by The Knight Agency.

Fae, Witches & VooDoo in the Eternal City by Kristen Painter

Fae, Witches & VooDoo in the Eternal City by Kristen Painter

The World Kristen Painter’s Crescent City series is set in NOLA in 2068. This world is full of all kinds of supernatural creatures. While book 1, HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN dealt with mostly Fae races we get the addition of witches and voodoo practitioners into the mix. The Fae and witches don’t really like each other and the fae govern what the witches are allowed to do. The voodoo practitioners and witches don’t get along. There is tension among the three groups and ETERNAL CITY starts setting things up for that tension to reach a new level. The Characters It’s always a good sign when I’m talking to the characters in a book. “RED FLAG!!! RED FLAG!!! I have a bad feeling Harlow!” “How can […]

Swoon Worthy Gargoyle! Queen of Hearts by Kristen Painter

Swoon Worthy Gargoyle! Queen of Hearts by Kristen Painter

I’m no stranger to Kristen Painter’s work. She writes one hell of a great urban fantasy series with outstanding world building. I can now say that she writes paranormal romance just as well. I like that the novellas in the Sin City Collectors series is loosely collected which means each novella can easily be read as a stand alone. So you could start with QUEEN OF HEARTS (but I recommend you read ACES WILD too). I have limited experience with gargoyles so I was excited that the hero in QUEEN OF HEARTS is a sexy alpha made of stone with a heart of gold. Jason is all alpha but he’s not afraid to let Claudette take the lead when they work together taking down […]

A Romp-o-licious Snippet from ANTE UP by Amanda Carlson

A sexy snippet from ANTE UP, the third installment of the Sin City Collectors series. ANTE UP releases on 8/18/14. ACES WILD, the first by Amanda, and QUEEN OF HEARTS, by Kristen Painter are both available now.        Sofia Cabrera is having a very naughty dream about her shifter. Or is she?   Sofia woke with a start, panting. Her brain felt hazy, but she chalked it up to lack of sleep. She hadn’t gotten a lot in the last few weeks. The move had consumed most of her time, and she was bone-tired. Her house was well warded, and no alarms had been triggered, so she turned and nestled deeper under the covers, pulling her soft duvet cover around her for […]

Q&A with Kristen Painter About Her New Crescent City Series

Q&A with Kristen Painter About Her New Crescent City Series

Posted May 23, 2014 by Jennifer in Author Interview, Blog Tour | 7 Comments

Please welcome Kristen Painter back to The Book Nympho. Today she’s here to talk about her new Urban Fantasy series, Crescent City.     The Crescent City series is a “spin-off” of sorts for your House of Comarre series. Will readers need to be familiar with that series before reading House of the Rising Sun? Nope! Crescent City isn’t so much a spin off as an adjacent series.   With Crescent City series being set in NOLA did you pick the title for book one, House of the Rising Sun from the old song that’s about the real life NOLA? I did! It also plays into the plot of the book and the house where my characters live. It was a bit of inspiration, too.   […]

House of the Rising Sun by Kristen Painter

House of the Rising Sun by Kristen Painter

First Thought Kristen Painter continues to weave a complex world and characters. She is a master at world building and a great example of what Urban Fantasy is all about. What I liked I liked that Painter gave us more Fae with the House of the Rising Sun. Her other series is more about vampires so it’s nice to learn more about other supes. And what better city to have as a back-drop than NOLA? Augustine is a great character. He’s complex. Even though he is the hero and main character he has a dark side. He had a rough childhood with that momma of his. I like that our other main character, Harlow, is not likeable at first. She comes off as a little […]

Review: Bad Blood by Kristen Painter

Review: Bad Blood by Kristen Painter

Bad Blood gave me multi storyline whiplash. I feel like too many of the secondary characters got too much face time. Doc and Fi have their own problems which include Creek which was one storyline. Then we get a storyline with the Mayor. Tatiana is back with her own thing. Preacher has a beginning of his own storyline. Creek also has a budding storyline now that it’s clear to him that he won’t be apart of a love triangle with Mal & Chrysabelle I needed a score card to keep up with it all. I feel like the main storyline or at least the one I cared about didn’t get enough face time. Mal and Chrysabelle. I realize this is an urban fantasy series and the romance […]

Audio Review: Flesh and Blood by Kristen Painter

Audio Review: Flesh and Blood by Kristen Painter

Normally I save my thoughts about the narration of the audiobook to the end of the review. But since I almost gave Flesh and Blood a 3 star rating based on the narration I going to talk about it first. Abby Craden’s narration of the main characters was pretty good and her “reading” voice (non dialogue narration) was good. Where I had a problem with the narration was her choices for A LOT of the secondary characters more to the point the minority characters. For example Katsumi is an Asian vampire and Craden’s narration of her sounded like siamese cats from Lady and the Tramp. I had that song “We are Siamese if You Please” stuck in my head whenever Katsumi can on scene. Another character I had problem with […]
