Make a deal with the devil and you might get what you want, but will it be what you need?

Jennifer Sylvester wants one thing, and that one thing is NOT to be Tennessee’s reigning Banana Cake Queen. Ever the perpetual good girl and obedient daughter, Jennifer is buckling under the weight of her social media celebrity, her mother’s ambitions, and her father’s puritanical mandates. Jennifer is officially desperate.

And desperate times call for Cletus Winston.

Cletus Winston is a puzzle wrapped in a mystery covered in conundrum sauce, and now he’s in a pickle. Despite being convinced of his own omniscience, extortion by the exalted Banana Cake Queen of Green Valley has taken him completely by surprise. So... what’s a maniacal mastermind to do?

Likely, the last thing you expect.

Penny Reid is the bomb; an absolute favorite author for the kind of contemporary romance I enjoy.  Her books are smart and funny with relatable characters.  All her series are amazing.  This one is in the Winston Brothers series, set in Tennessee, with 6 boys and one girl as siblings.

Cletus. OMG.  I. LOVE. CLETUS.  He will be my book boyfriend forever. He’s not typical but I get him. He’s very smart, and funny, and controlled. Seeing the focused Cletus lose it, is precious. Cletus does not like bullies. He does like cars, music, pie, and making deals.

Jennifer is perhaps my favorite lady in this series. She has led a sheltered life, being home-schooled, and working in a bakery for her parents now. She lives with her parents and they decide everything for her. I seriously don’t like the way they treat her. In spite of being controlled and made a joke, Jennifer is awesome. She is strong, moral, smart, more than competent, KIND, RESPECTFUL, COMPASSIONATE and fun. She is so brave. I love her.

Beard Science is a love of family and discovery of self. It is intelligence and compassion fighting bullies and greed. It hurt my heart, then lifts and fills it and makes me laugh. The emotional ride is one I need and can take again and again.

I’m so very happy to get to see all the brothers again, and their women. Also, I am thrilled for the peek at Billy. I can already tell he will win my heart. Three boys down, three to go. I can’t wait. But I’m happy to linger with Cletus. JS.

About Penny Reid

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.

Grin and Beard It by Penny Reid

Grin and Beard It by Penny Reid

In the Knitting in the City series, Ashley Winston is one of the “knitters” who has SIX brothers. Grin and Beard It is the second book in the spinoff series, Winston Brothers. I love the brothers. They are funny and interesting. Jethro is featured here, a former bad boy who has been trying hard to redeem himself. It’s heartwarming to see him apply his considerable talents to good works. Jethro holds himself to some high standards these days. Sienna’s perspectives are unusual, candid and refreshing.  She is far from a typical actor, thank goodness.  Their first experiences with real love, plus the attitudes of those around them are the basis for this tale. The complication of Sienna’s celebrity adds some twists. Almost more than […]

Happily Ever Ninja by Penny Reid

Happily Ever Ninja by Penny Reid

My love affair with Penny Reid began with the first story I read and grew with each book.  I started this series happily because I loved her other books and I love knitting. After reading the first book,  I signed up to be on the blog tour for Happily Ever Ninja choosing a date just in time for Valentine’s Day. Happily Ever Ninja is the epitome of fantasy and real life in unison.  The real life is cunningly encased in rainbows and unicorns.  There are unbelievable money and skills and actions, all entertaining while also bringing forth the realness of a long-term love with its issues, trials, pleasures, and comforts. THIS, people, is the incredible talent of Penny Reid.  She makes you laugh […]

Series Catch Up: Knitting in the City series by Penny Reid

Series Catch Up: Knitting in the City series by Penny Reid

Crack. Penny Reid is CRACK. I have no hope for a cure. I love this genre of more realistic, contemporary romance. No it’s still fiction with some things which are over the top but there is more depth emotionally and the issues are more real life than the romances of old. And Penny Reid makes me laugh! This is wonderful.  If you love Janie and McHotpants, and who doesn’t, you will love this.  It’s the story of their getting married.  It is about love and family and the compromises one makes for them which end up not being compromised at all. Elizabeth is Janie’s friend and longtime roomie.  This gives us her story and another view of Janie’s story as it happened.  I […]

Thrifty Thursday: Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid

Thrifty Thursday: Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid

THE PURPOSE OF THRIFTY THURSDAY IS TO PICK A BOOK WHICH WAS FREE (AT SOME POINT).   I’d heard about Neanderthal Seeks Human and when I saw it as a freebie on Kindle last February I was elated. I one-clicked it right away. I love knitting and yarn.  Janie, with her math background, is going to love knitting if she fits it into her schedule. The color and texture add complexity and creativity to the numbers of it. But there are lots of numbers in the patterns and designs.  Gardening is like that with color, texture, form, bloom time, but that is another story. Anyway, I was, even more, excited to read it after I read the other series a couple of months ago. So I […]

Thrifty Thursday Review: Attraction by Penny Reid

Thrifty Thursday Review: Attraction by Penny Reid

The purpose of Thrifty Thursday is to pick a book which was free (at some point).   Free ebook on June 12, 2015 Currently it is $ .99 on Amazon, Nook, and Kobo. Additional parts are $2.99 or you can get all 3 parts for $5.99.   There is every reason for me to NOT even like this book – it is the billionaire manwhore and the virgin. And it is a serial with 3 parts. There is a CLIFFHANGER. (The author is kind enough to include the start of the second book which relieves the worst of it.)  BUT,  it’s AMAZING and I LOVED it. It’s honest and fresh and lets us see behind the masks people use to hide.  This is REAL […]
