I discovered the Shadows of the Immortals series as it came out this year on audio. It was a pleasant surprise containing many elements I enjoy. There is magic, many types of paranormal beings in this fascinating world. After three books, I don’t know if I understand very much about how the world works. Hollie Jackson continues to do a fine job with the narration. She is Lexi to me. There were many new and interesting characters in the underworld for her to give voices. She made it all come to life and allowed me to focus on the story. Lexi, providing our view of everything, doesn’t know much about her family or how she got her skills, […]

Joint Review: Wildfire by Ilona Andrews

Joint Review: Wildfire by Ilona Andrews

All the stars! I have been wondering how I could even write a review. I realized it is simple. It’s everything. I was reading within minutes of receiving the eARC and I keep rereading it! This morning I wanted to wail and cry like Catalina’s hardened, badass mercenaries when I had to leave for work. Nevada is so strong, smart, and compassionate. She puts her whole self into her work and family.  I am so impressed with her. Will she learn even more about her skills and get more training as others do from childhood?  The characters have me intensely invested. of course, Nevada and Rogan, but so MANY others. The supporting cast is so detailed and interesting. I care about […]

White Hot by Ilona Andrews

White Hot by Ilona Andrews

read it, track reviews are a way  to track books for my reading challenges and they will be super short The same reasons that made Burn for Me great (Ilona Andrews wrote it, Great Characters and Renée Raudman narrated it) are true for White Hot. White Hot picks up a couple of months after Burn for Me. The larger plot thread continues and as all Andrews’ series, the characters and plot become more complex. While the danger for now is wrapped up by the end of the novel the overall series danger is still there waiting for Nevada and Rogan. The budding romance between the hero and heroine grows as well. If you have not tried an Ilona Andrews novel I would recommend the Hidden Legacy series […]

The first book in Shadows of the Immortals series. was Stolen Magic and I chose it on a whim. It was such a pleasant surprise I asked if there would be more and Tantor was kind enough to send along the next one for me!!! Hollie Jackson was very enjoyable and the voices were distinguishable for the characters. I learned recently I could change speed on audio books. This could not be at any faster speed or it sounded too squeaky like when people do those helium balloon voices. The beginning was rather frustrating because Lexi was trying to figure things out about herself and the world. It didn’t go very quickly or very well. She couldn’t even decide who were the good guys and […]

On A Clear Winter Night by Elizabeth Hunter

On A Clear Winter Night by Elizabeth Hunter

This is a very brief, Read It Track It review. On A Clear Winter Night finds Ava and Malachi during the holidays, after the first three books in the Irin Chronicles series.  All the books in the series, to this point, feature this couple. I read this in preparation to go on with the series; I’m behind. This far, it is an urban fantasy. Going forward, it becomes paranormal romance where each book will feature a different couple. This sweet, short story gives a happy holiday to catch us up with the couple, their friends and family. I really enjoyed it and it brought me back to this special world.  I’ll read on with The Staff and the Blade. Then, The Silent will be […]

I’d never heard of this Shadows of the Immortals series when it was on a list from Tantor of new releases.  It sounded interesting, in a favorite urban fantasy genre and it was the first in the series. I’ve become a huge audio fan and couldn’t resist giving it a try. Magic is also appealing to me. Wow! Stolen Magic was rather awesome! The world-building was fascinating and there were some great characters. The paranormal types were unique which is always refreshing. There were shapers, shifters, vampires, and gods.  Lexi, the main character, was so strong and compassionate; I couldn’t help but love her. She has the trait of making friends of many types, needed by every heroine to succeed. […]

I admit I am totally biased. This is the one and only author I auto-buy everything. I have some of their books in 3 formats: print, ebook and audio! They never let me down. Why do I love them so much? Somehow they infuse their world and characters with quirky details, relatable situations and feelings. There are multiple plot lines: the mystery, the action, the ongoing world-building and some romance. But even in a romance book – they don’t really need sex! Because the story is sooooooooo amazing!  Although I appreciate sex and romance. Not only do they write great books but they are wonderful people, real people. I was lucky enough to meet them at NOLA Storycon in September 2016. I […]

I’m a big fan of Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series for many reasons. Strong likable heroine Really, what’s not to like about a heroine who kills the bad guys and is a great cook. Plus Gin is very loyal to her family and friends. Scene stealing secondary characters Gin is not the only character who is likable. Her gang of crime fighting friends and family brings more than just support to her life and the stories. Great villains Estep keeps cranking out fantastic bad guys. Snared the sixteenth book in the series as all of the above. I don’t know who Estep has kept me coming back each time. I guess because I know I’m going […]
