The second sexy and suspenseful book in New York Times bestselling author Laura Kaye's Raven Riders motorcycle club series. Brotherhood. Club. But when her dream quickly turns into a nightmare, Alexa realizes she's fallen for a facade she can't escape-until sexy, dangerous Maverick offers her a way out.Forced together to keep Alexa safe, their powerful attraction reignites and Maverick determines to do whatever it takes to earn a second chance--one Alexa is tempted to give. But her ex-fiance isn't going to let her go without a fight, one that will threaten everything they both hold dear.

I love this Rough Riders series where the club is a family who protects their own and others in trouble.  Each book features a different couple. Sexy times are hot! Because they are protecting others, abuse and other illegal acts often happen within the stories. Laura Kaye has a way of making the sexual tension build as well as the action / suspense. Generally while the characters have had tough times or made mistakes, they are strong and smart, both the males and females. I appreciate not having whiny or entitled main characters.

Ride Rough is a second chance romance. This couple, Maverick and Alexa were together when they were young.  Now Alexa is in trouble and Maverick and his club are all about protection. Maverick never gave up on her and now he has another chance. I was worried about Alexa and how she let herself fall into a routine that made me shudder. With anything, it is easy to fall off track when the change is gradual. She has family issues which take lots of time and energy, too.

Abby Craden IS the voice of these Laura Kaye series. Her sultry tone fits the sexy style of the strong alpha guys in the motorcycle club and special ops stories. I love the way she voices the characters. Each one is distinct.

It was great to see all the other club members as well as the couple from the first book, Ride Hard, Dare and Haven,There was also some interaction with the special ops team. It just adds to my comfort of being in this familiar, loved world.  I’m really looking forward to Cora’s story next in Ride Wild, available October 31, 2017.

I’m enjoying the audios in the Black Knights Inc series.  Abby Craden is an easy listen. I do feel as though the character’s voices are running together but this is because there are certain expressions, slang, the author uses for multiple characters. Now those who are together, the guys, it makes some sense.  But the women don’t all know each other before they “join” the group or even after, so it bugs me when they use it.. Eve is Becky’s best friend and was involved with her brother, Bill, when she was young. She certainly has not had things too easy in an emotional sense, but she is learning and has come into her own. She wants to see if she can start fresh with […]

This is the fourth in The Black Knights Inc. series  and the third I’ve listened to audio.  I continue to enjoy Abby Craden’s narration. For Rock, she did a bayou accent with French intermingled. I don’t know if it was authentic but it was fun. The men all sound different but to me, the women sound mostly the same. It doesn’t bother me though. Thrill Ride was suspenseful and the mystery and action was more exciting to me than the romance. The Black Knights used more tech in this one which pleased me. I like seeing all the guys working together, planning strategies and using their talents. Rock has some mad skills in staying lost. Rock and […]

This is the third in The Black Knights Inc. series  and the second I’ve listened to audio.  Rev It Up is my favorite so far. Perhaps, because I know the characters and world better. The stories don’t include very much about motorcycles, not really.  Other than flashbacks, there isn’t much about their missions. The stories are the romance and happenings in their day-to-day lives or the blow back of missions onto personal lives.. The bad guys from a previous operation are out to kill them. It’s personal. So the BKI team is on alert. They need to catch the bad guys before they kill any of their own. I appreciate their caution and intelligence; they don’t make too many mistakes. Jake has just […]

Audio Review: In the Company of Wolves by Paige Tyler

In the Company of Wolves is more action and less romance compared to the previous books in the SWAT series by Paige Tyler, but that’s not a bad thing. Less talk of The One was a welcomed changed. But don’t worry romance fans, there was a happy ever after and some smexy times. What got me excited was more werewolf mythology coming to the forefront. Until now we’ve only seen alpha wolves. Ms. Tyler introduces omegas and betas and I love how none of them know all the rules to being a werewolf. The characters are learning about what makes werewolves tick as the readers do. It’s like watching someone put together the pieces of a puzzle, just when you think you know what the picture […]

Audio Review: Wolf Trouble by Paige Tyler

Wolf Trouble pushed the SWAT series more into the paranormal suspense romance genre. The werewolf elements are stronger than in book 1, Hungry Like the Wolf because we get to see the first female werewolf in the series deal with shifting issues. My biggest issue with Wolf Trouble is the heroine’s name, Khaki. I can’t believe there wasn’t any kind of jokes made about her name from some of the other characters. I felt like Ms. Tyler could have had some fun with that. But really over the first installment in the series, I enjoyed Khaki and Xander’s romance more and the plot line. Although I thought that the plot line with the bank robbers and the another character was going to tie into each other […]

Swan and the Bear by Eve Langlais

Eve Langlais delivers another fun and sexy shifter romance with Swan and the Bear. Mason is the younger brother to the bear in book 1, Bunny and the Bear and he’s known as a play bear (instead of play boy). That’s until he meets one sassy swan named Jessie. But Jessie is not falling for his smooth talking ways. She doesn’t need a man or want one. So she tries to tell herself. But before she knows it, she falling for the sexy bear. But the romance is put on hold when the evil master mind from Bunny and the Bear is back to kidnap more shifters to use as lab rats. What’s the quickest way to piss off a bear shifter? Grab […]

Audio Review: Under My Skin by J. Kenner

The story begins where the last book ended, with Jackson under suspicion for murder, Sylvia’s resort project in jeopardy and the fate of Jackson’s daughter up in the air. While the story moves at a slower pace, it’s appropriate as Jackson and Sylvia are forced to communicate with each other at a deeper, more meaningful level and that takes time to develop. I liked that the focus deviated somewhat from the sexual, presenting a realistic view of two people learning how to rise above their individual natures and deal with conflicts together. The revelations as to whom was behind the sabotage of the Santa Cortez Resort project, the murder and the leaks weren’t very surprising but were well developed and interesting. It was also […]
