Sela Halstead lost her innocence in a way that no sixteen-year-old should ever have to endure. She's spent years trying to forget that night, even while wondering about the identities of the monsters who brutalized her—until a telltale tattoo flashes across Sela's TV screen. The incriminating ink belongs to Jonathon Townsend, the millionaire founder of The Sugar Bowl, a website that matches rich older men with impressionable young women. Obsessed with revenge, Sela infiltrates Townsend's world, only to come face-to-face with a tantalizing complication: Beckett North, his charismatic business partner.

The tech mastermind behind The Sugar Bowl, Beck always gets what he wants, in business and in bed. And yet, for a man who's done every dirty thing imaginable, there's something about the naive, fresh-faced Sela that sparks his hottest fantasies. Because with her, it's not just about sex. Beck opens up to her in ways he never has with other girls. So why does he get the feeling that she's hiding something? In a world of pleasure and power, the shocking truth could turn them against each other—or bind them forever.

Note: Sugar Daddy ends on a cliffhanger. Sela and Beck’s story continues in Sugar Rush and Sugar Free!

Listening to the first chapter of Sugar Daddy was one of the hardest things I’ve done in a while. Why? I requested Sugar Daddy for review on audio for the narrators alone. I love both Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers. I didn’t do much research into the title. I don’t think I even read the summary. So I didn’t know I was going to hear the heroine get gang raped. Granted the details were not as graphic as they could have been, mostly like due to the fact that she was so out of it from being drugged but it was still hard to listen to.

I felt like the scene was handled every well from both the author and narrator (Lucy Rivers). I think the fact that as the reader/listener I was dropped into that scene they way the heroine, Sela Halstead was with her spotty related while it was happening.

I have mixed emotions about Sugar Daddy and the opening scene is not really what has me mixed up. Sela went through a horrible ordeal when she was sixteen. That builds the character and shows why she acts the way she does over the tens after it happened. What I didn’t really love about the plot of the story is the Sugar Daddy, Sugar Baby aspect. One of Sela’s rapists is a partner in a company that’s basically like but closer to matching older men with younger women with the underlining idea that there will be sex for money. The company name is The Sugar Bowl, with the men called Sugar Daddies and the women named Sugar Babies. It makes me feel icky about the story.

Why did I keep listening to Sugar Daddy? Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers, the two reasons I requested it to begin with. Rox and Rivers narrate POVs for Sela (Rivers) and Beck (Fox). Both do amazing jobs with the characters. Their narration work and the addictive hook of Sela getting justice for that horrible night ten years ago is what keep me going and had me looking through five library systems to see if I could get my hands on the next audio in the series, Sugar Rush. Because yes, there’s a cliffhanger and the other two books in the series are about Sela’s story. So while I have an issue with the The Sugar Bowl, I came to care about Sela and Beck and need to know what the story ends.

Sugar Daddy is my first title by Sawyer Bennett. Have you read her work? If so let me know what title(s) in the comments. I’d like to try some of her backlist.

Shuttergirl by C.D. Reiss

Shuttergirl by C.D. Reiss

C.D. Reiss is my go to author for dark and complicated romances. Jo Raylan is a go to narrator for sexy and emotional deliveries. When these two ladies work on a book together its pure magic! Shuttergirl is a story about a girl and a guy with a high school history. The usual class separation romance. She (Lane) a girl who bounced between foster homes and he (Michael) a popular and rich guy with famous actors for parents. Fast forward a few years and she is taking his picture. He grew up to be an actor and she a paparazzi. Lane is use to being the one behind the camera, not the one in front of it. At least […]

Bombshell by CD Reiss

Bombshell by CD Reiss

Grab the Kindle book for $3.99 and add the audio for only $1.99! I’m a big fan of C.D. Reiss. She writes great erotica romances. Bombshell is not erotica and that’s ok. I was detailed to see that I enjoyed it just as much as Reiss’s steamier titles. Not to say Bombshell doesn’t get steamy, it’s just a different kind of sexy. Bombshell is a romance between nanny and sexy Hollywood actor from Arkansas. Freaking Arkansas! (My home state) But this isn’t the that kind of story. Brad gets a big bombshell in the form of a 5-year-old daughter he didn’t know anything about, Nicole. Brad is the typical party guy in Hollywood so when he becomes a dad overnight he needs help. That’s where Cara, the […]

Series Catch Up: The Submission Series by CD Reiss

I don’t know why I waited so long to list to the Sequence Two audio bundle in CD Reiss’s Submission series.  This set of stories about Jonathan and Monica is just an emotional rollercoaster that Sequence One. I was as emotionally wrung out as Monica was listening to the Control, Burn, Resist. I found myself taking on the role of Monica, being both turned by Jonathan and wondering why she was willing to allow him to sex her up to get her to stop asking questions. Anytime I read or listen to a romance that has BDSM elements I wonder how much of those parts are real. Some sound fun, some sound naughty, some nice (having someone to take care of you) […]

Romance and a Touch of Intrigue! One to Protect by Tia Louise

Romance and a Touch of Intrigue! One to Protect by Tia Louise

This series has a continuing story arc   Melissa and Derek’s relationship continues to develop in this story, with her psychotic ex-husband always in the background. Because they’re still living separately, he in Princeton, New Jersey, she in Raleigh, North Carolina, Derek is worried that he can’t adequately protect her from what he feels is certain retribution from Sloan so he enlists his partner Patrick’s help who’s already relocated to be near Elaine.   I enjoyed this story as the focus was more on the deepening relationship between Melissa and Derek. The interesting plan to trap Sloan involved some strange “bedfellows” and the way that plot unfolded is sure to create issues down the road. There were some creepy moments, too, that added […]
