I met the president's son when we were both young. Matthew Hamilton was handsome, polished, and intelligent. I'd never met a guy like him. He promised me that he'd never run for president. I promised that if he did, I'd be by his side. Two terms later, an invitation to join Matthew Hamilton's campaign is the most exhilarating opportunity I've ever experienced. I'm determined to make a difference; he is determined to win.

Focused on his goal, Matt is steadfast, ruthless, and disarming. All eyes are on him, and his popularity is surging. But soon, the next possible president of the United States is possessing me in more ways than one-and despite the risks, I'm helpless to resist. We're stealing touches, stealing moments, and stealing away at night. But our chemical connection is quickly becoming dangerously combustive, putting not only my heart but Matt's chance at the presidency on the line.

Charlotte Wells, daughter of a US senator, met former President Hamilton and his son, Matt, when she was 11 years old and was immediately smitten with both of them. Fast forward eleven years and Matt Hamilton is running for president and invites the still crushing Charlotte to join his campaign. It doesn’t take long for these two to admit they both have strong feelings for each other. However, it’s not politically wise for the candidate to have a girlfriend when he’s this close to election day.

The story had such promise and I enjoyed the first half as we learned much about Charlotte and Matt, watching their attraction develop in the midst of an historic campaign. But once they gave into their feelings, it became one clandestine interlude after another with close calls of being caught, then rinse and repeat. I also didn’t understand why a relationship with Charlotte posed a problem as you couldn’t find anyone more squeaky clean than this woman. The conflict was thin and I kept hoping they’d get caught.

This had such strong promise that didn’t quite deliver for me because of the weak conflict and repetition. However, the narrator, Isabelle Gordon, was excellent and she kept me in the story with her strong performance. The other narrator, John Lane, was also good in the few transitions we had to get Matt’s perspective, which was helpful. I wasn’t expecting to have a mini cliffhanger so that caught me off guard and I’ll read the next book for the conclusion. But, this was just an okay story for me.
