FBI agents Jessica Harlow and John Shepherd have a past. The former lawyer and cocky Army Ranger clashed during their training at Quantico and gladly went their separate ways after graduating from the Academy. Six years later, the last thing either of them expects is to be assigned to work as partners in a high-profile undercover sting.

For both of them, being paired with a former rival couldn't come at a worse time. Recently divorced from a Hollywood producer and looking for a fresh start, Jessica is eager to prove herself at her new field office. And John is just one case away from his dream assignment to the FBI's elite Hostage Rescue Team. In order to nail a corrupt Florida politician, they'll have to find a way to work together-a task that becomes even trickier when they're forced to hole up at a romantic beachfront resort as part of the investigation. Suddenly, the heat behind their nonstop sparring threatens to make the job a whole lot more complicated . . .

Jennifer read and reviewed this book earlier. Here’s mine of the audio version and how it connects with the series.

FBI Special Agents Jessica Harlow and John Shepherd have an interesting history. They attended the academy together and competed against each other full out. Both graduated with not so great opinions of each other. Now, six years later they find themselves in the same Chicago office assigned to the same high profile undercover case in Jacksonville. They’re both professionals so of course they’re going to make it work…right:)

This isn’t one of those stories with lots of action and pivotal moments. It is, however, a wonderfully developed story about these two characters. We begin with John and then transition to Jessica’s point of view. I loved watching from the sidelines as these two slowly discovered what we already know…that they are two highly skilled and admirable people who’ve experienced hard knocks in the area of relationships. They come from close-knit families, are well adjusted and are kinda perfect for each other.

I liked how the story meandered getting to its conclusion. When you really like the main characters and their interactions with each other, it’s just fun waiting to see it work out. Jessica’s well respected as is John and their constant need to compete with each other make for some entertaining moments. I liked her spirit, his grit and their relationship. The narrator really nails the personality of them both and I enjoyed listening to the story.

Despite it not being formally connected to the FBI/US Attorney series on Goodreads (which I love), it is #7 as there are characters from the series showing up here. Just be advised. Yes, it stands alone well but for you purists out there, that’s the order.

Anne’s Audio Review I was so excited to get this audio, since I had also listened to Deadly Silence.  In between these two audios in the Blood Brothers series , I listened to the entire  Sin Brothers series which is related.  The Sin Brothers came first if you are OCD like me. Karen White narrated both series so I enjoyed the consistency. While the women have different personalities, most of them sounded the same to me. The men had a little more variation. These are professional,  comfortably paced audio books. The overall story arc continues and I’m happy we learn more in each installment. The Blood brothers were rather isolated in childhood, so they are learning more about themselves and their history all the time. This book also has […]

Accidentally on Purpose by Jill Shalvis

Read it, track reviews are a way  to track books for my reading challenges and they will be super short.            Accidentally on Purpose is the 3rd full length novel in Shalvis’ Hearbreaker Bay series and we met the couple earlier in the series. Elle and Archer is THAT COUPLE in the series that you knew was going to end up together, but you had to wait for their story while getting peeks into them as secondary characters. Archer and Elle have a past where he saved her life one night. Ever since she has hoped that he would see her as the woman she grew up to be and not the teenager he saved. Archer does not think he’s good enough […]

Deadly Silence by Rebecca Zanetti

Deadly Silence by Rebecca Zanetti

Jennifer’s Thoughts Zanetti’s Blood Brothers series is a spin-off of her Sin Brothers series but don’t worry you can pick up Deadly Silence without reading the former series. There is some cross-over with minor characters and the background of what happened to both set of brothers but new readers won’t be lost and fans of the Sin Brothers will enjoy the connection. Deadly Silence is a sexy, action pack, romantic suspense thrill ride. Ryker and Zara have been having a casual ‘relationship’, the kind where when he’s in town she cooks him dinner and he supplies the desert. Zara has never had a no strings attached kind of affair before and she’s finding it harder and harder to keep it casual with in her heart when […]

New Series! Sweet Little Lies by Jill Shalvis

New Series! Sweet Little Lies by Jill Shalvis

I’m all about Jill Shalvis, so when I saw she had a new series coming out I knew I was going to read it. But when the opportunity came to listen to Sweet Little Lies narrated by Karen White, I figured, Why Not? I’ve loved the author and narrator pairing in the past with Shalvis’ Animal Magnetism series. I have a history of not falling in love with the first couple in a series. I don’t know why, but it seems like the couples that follow have better storylines and/or chemistry. For me, Pru and Finn fell into that first couple syndrome. They were likable but not lovable. I think (for me) what kept them from reaching the lovable status was the “big secret” Pru was […]

Fated by Rebecca Zanetti

Fated by Rebecca Zanetti

Fans of Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breeds series will enjoy the vampire mythology in Fated by Rebecca Zanetti. The vampires are all born not made and they’re all male. They need female humans to mate with. Instead of the women having a Breed Mate mark, the vampires get a mark on them once they’ve touched their fated female and once the couple mates the woman is also marked. Once the mating takes place no other vampire male can touch the woman without displeasure. Also like the Breed Mates in Adrian’s series, the women have special abilities. Cara is an empath with a young daughter, Janie that is psychic. And there’s two groups of vampires. The good ones like Talen and the bad ones, Kurjans. The Kurjans can’t […]

About the series While the author doesn’t include this book in the FBI/US Attorney series (neither of the main characters is an FBI agent or a US attorney), it is connected through several of the characters. Ford Dixon and his best friend, Brooke Parker, were featured in Love, Irresistibly. The story stands alone very well. However, if you’re as manic as I am about character continuity, consider this as #6 in the series sequence.   Quick summary Ford Dixon is an investigative journalist who’s out with his friends one evening. Victoria Slade (a divorce attorney) and her friends are out on the same evening at the same restaurant. While they share a “look” and a “connection,” forces work against them and they don’t meet or […]

Piper and Jory? Jonetta: I thought she had a great sense of humor and he really was a badass. They were great together, especially when she was debating whether to trust him or not. Jennifer: I thought Piper was great for Jory. She helped bring out his emotions and helped him have a little fun in a dark world.   Who’s your daddy? Jonetta: Didn’t see that coming either! Probably my biggest WTH moment in the story. I had to rewind and listen again. Jennifer: I liked the reveal. After all one Dean brother falls for the bitch’s daughter. It was only fighting that this love connection happened.   There’s a new crazy in town Jonetta: Like the Commander and his crew weren’t crazy enough? The Protect group may be worse […]
