For Raven Black, hunting criminals is second nature. So is denial. It’s not easy moving forward with one foot stuck in the past. But a new case offers her a much-needed distraction when Keystone accepts their toughest assignment yet—to track down an elusive criminal who’s selling children on the black market.

Their investigation leads them deep into the underbelly of the Breed world, a place both treacherous and enticing. With no room for mistakes, Raven makes a tough decision to lock the door to her past before it interferes with her job. The only trouble? Christian holds the key.

The stakes are high, and a shocking twist turns everything on its head. Will they catch this criminal before more lives are lost?

Dark and Poole never fails! This author and narrator pairing is one of the best ones out there. Dark writes great characters and Poole is a master at bring them to life with her narration.

Deathtrap picks up shortly after Raveheart left off. Raven, Christian and the rest of Keystone group gets a new case to work that leads them to find out more about one of their team members, Shepherd. The case as a good one and the Shepherd is not the only one who has to deal with their past. Raven is still dealing with letting go of her human life.

The best thing about the Crossbreed series is the banter between Raven and Christian. Their relationship is a long dance that has no end . . . yet. Deathtrap gets us closer to that end. Their slow burn romance reminds me of Cat and Bones in the first Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. I think the slow building to their romance relationship is the best way to handle them. The journey to their HEA will be a fun one to experience.

We get a few answers to earlier questions in Raven’s life and more are revealed. Dannika Dark does a great job giving us bread crumbs to the over all big picture. It will be a long wait for the next book, Gaslight (2018).

About Dannika Dark

Dannika traveled abroad in her formative years, learning that life was bigger than her own backyard. With an active imagination, she developed a love for poetry and classic literature. At age 12, influential modern writers such as Stephen King and Anne Rice sparked her interest in writing short stories about magic and the apocalypse, but it wasn’t until decades later that Dannika left her 9-5 corporate job to pursue a career in publishing.

In addition to writing about supernatural worlds, Dannika is passionate about graphic design and creates all her own covers and series art. When not writing, she enjoys indie music, reading, Netflix, strawberry daiquiris, heaps of chocolate, and unleashing her dark side.

All of her published books to date are written in the same universe and contain material suitable for adults only. Dannika’s books have sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide.

I love the team of Dannika Dark and narrator Nicole Poole. I’ve listened to Dark’s Seven series and own all of her Mageri series (which I will binge listen to by the end of the year). The Crossbreed series is part of the same world but you don’t have to have read/listened to the other series. I think reader who are familiar with one of all of the previous series will feel completely at home because you’ve been introduced to all the breeds in this series. New comers will still feel at home but without the back history of the world building involving the supernatural races Dark has made. Have no fear, Dark brings you up to speed on them without an information dump. Raven Black […]

Winter Moon by Dannika Dark

Winter Moon by Dannika Dark

Winter Moon is a full cast holiday adventure not to be missed by Dark and Poole fans!   It’s always fun to visit the Seven series by Dannika Dark.  Add in the holidays, hold on for the fun ride dashing through the crazy that is the Weston Pack. Winter Moon allows us to revisit the couples of the series and how they spend the holidays together. Nothing like wanting until the last minute to get Christmas gifts for the loved ones and ALL of the characters in Winter Moon are guilty of it. To be fair, shifters do not put importance on gifts and the holidays like humans do, but when Lexie wants a tree for the family the pack goes into the woods to bring one […]

New Favorite Paranormal Voice, Nicole Poole

New Favorite Paranormal Voice, Nicole Poole

Welcome, Nicole Poole to The Book Nympho. I first fell in love with Nicole’s narration through Dannika Darks’s Seven series. I’m getting ready to start Dark’s Mageri series also narrated by Nicole and I just know I’m going to enjoy it as well. Can you walk us through your prep work for a narration project? Do you prepare any notes to help decide the tone and voice to give a character when there’s not a clear description of their voice in the novel (when they do not have a distinct accent)? First off, thanks so much for this interview! Narrating is a solo profession, and hearing from other people is a real joy. (waving at everyone!) So. To get on with your question: I have the best job in […]

One Second by Dannika Dark

One Second by Dannika Dark

I’m sad that One Second is the last book in the Seven series by Dannika Dark. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the last book in the series being about the first couple, Lexi, and Austin. I mean they had their story in Seven Years but One Second really is a book about the whole pack. Loose ends get tied up and we get to see most of the past characters. It was like a “where are they now” story with Lexi and Austin being featured more than the others. Dannika did a time jump between Three Hours and Two Minutes aging the pack’s children, giving them bigger roles. One Second give us another, smaller time jump from the beginning of the book to the […]

Guest Audio Review: Sterling by Dannika Dark

Guest Audio Review: Sterling by Dannika Dark

Being a huge fan of The Seven Series by the fabulous author/narrator duo of Dannika Dark and Nicole Poole, and with that series now complete, I was thrilled to find that there was an entirely whole other predecessor series, the Mageri Series, waiting for my discovery. So with the Seven Series sadly over, I jumped right into listening to Sterling (the first book in the Mageri Series); and what a ride it was! While the Mageri Series and the Seven Series take place in the same Urban Fantasy (UF) world (which Ms. Dark coins the “Mageriverse”), Sterling, to me, seems to take a much more descriptive approach to describing this unique UF world. Perhaps this is because, as Ms. Dark indicates on her website, the […]

Charming by Dannika Dark

Charming by Dannika Dark

With Charming, we take a break from the Weston Pack to focus on Prince a pack master that leads a neighboring wolf pack and has been a side character for the whole series. We got a closer look at Prince in the previous book, Two Minutes. Even though Prince has been around, you could read/listen to Even though Prince has been around, you could read/listen to Charming as a stand alone but I highly recommend starting with the first book, Seven. The whole series is fantastic but if you wanted to get a taste for Dannika Dark’s writing then you would be ok with trying Charming. Series fans will love that we get a small look at a couple of the Weston Pack but new […]

Maizy and Denny’s story has been brewing from the beginning of the Seven series. It had to build over time since Maizy was a little girl when she met Denny and he was her watch dog. But with time apart to give Maizy time to grew up into a young woman was the key to making their attraction into something sweet and sexy instead of creepy and icky. Denny is the happy-go-lucky wolf in the Westin pack. He doesn’t take life serious and always has a joke on hand. Maizy is the pack’s little princess but not in the spoiled why. She’s like a sister or daughter to many of them. She was the human girl who had the pack wrapped around her finger. But Maizy […]
