Irony 101—The Spider herself snared in someone else’s web…

Another week, another few clues trickling in about the Circle, the mysterious group that supposedly runs the city’s underworld. Gathering intel on my hidden enemies is a painstaking process, but a more immediate mystery has popped up on my radar: a missing girl.

My search for the girl begins on the mean streets of Ashland, but with all the killers and crooks in this city, I’m not holding out much hope that she’s still alive.

A series of clues leads me down an increasingly dark, dangerous path, and I realize that the missing girl is really just the first thread in this web of evil. As an assassin, I’m used to facing down the worst of the worst, but nothing prepares me for this new, terrifying enemy—one who strikes from the shadows and is determined to make me the next victim.

I’m a big fan of Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series for many reasons.

  • Strong likable heroine
    • Really, what’s not to like about a heroine who kills the bad guys and is a great cook. Plus Gin is very loyal to her family and friends.
  • Scene stealing secondary characters
    • Gin is not the only character who is likable. Her gang of crime fighting friends and family brings more than just support to her life and the stories.
  • Great villains
    • Estep keeps cranking out fantastic bad guys.

Snared the sixteenth book in the series as all of the above. I don’t know who Estep has kept me coming back each time. I guess because I know I’m going to have a good time reading/listening to Gin’s adventures.

But as some of my buddies have pointed out in the past there are some repetitive issues. For the most part, they don’t bother me and I’ve come to see them as part of the series. The one that I could live without though is the one that caused me not to enjoy Snared as much as the previous books. Gin’s dreams.

Granted Gin had a traumatic childhood seeing her mother and sister killed so it’s only natural she would suppress some memories, but every (or at least most) installments Gin can’t remember why or how she knows someone “new” she meets only to later in the book have a dream that gives her the answers. I would think after having these dreams so often many of her memories would be triggered and remembered. At least we didn’t have the other plot device that has been used so many times where Fletcher left her a secret file on the current bad guy.

I think the element I liked the most about Snared was the addition of a serial killer as the villain. I cannot believe we’ve not had one before. I mean there as been some nasty villains in Gin’s past so it was nice to see a different type of murder. I also liked the information about Tucker. Now that we have taken a little side step from the Circle story arc I hope the next novel will bring us back and possibly wrap up it.

I started reading The Voodoo Killings and because of finals week at school and work I wasn’t able to devour it in one night like I wanted to. My reading time just wasn’t my own and I hated having to put the book down each night. I took it with me on a road trip to my sister-in-law’s house in hopes that I would get to finish it but again, I had to talk to people instead of reading. LOL Then I saw it was released on audio so I requested it and was able to listen to the rest of the book on my drive back home (9-hour drive) and it was fantastic! The Voodoo Killings is a great mix of […]

If you ask Lila Merriweather how she spent her summer break, she would tell you that she became a team player, made some friends, has a new boyfriend, and helped take down some bad guys. You know the typical teenager’s summer. Bright Blaze of Magic was a nice wrap up of the Black Blade trilogy by Jennifer Estep.  Lila gets her closer from the past and a has bright looking future with the Sinclair family. Well done Estep! I like that Lila’s story was told in a trilogy, there was no unnecessary over-drawn drama that you get with some long running series. Estep gives you some fun characters, action, mystery and a little violence (I would have liked to see more blood and death but I’m […]

I had so many feelings while listening to Crash & Burn . . . I love me some Ty & Zane and the Sidewinder gang and they are all present, including Liam Bell. Series plot lines wrapped up nicely and plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. NOOOOOOO! Crash & Burn is the last book in the Cut & Run series. If you still haven’t tried the Cut & Run series you are missing out one of the best (if not THE BEST) romances! Ty and Zane are the real deal. The series is all about suspense, thrills, laughs and love, Crash & Burn had it all and was a great wrap for the series. I’ll […]

I received a print copy of Bitter Bite for review from Pocket but since I’ve not listened to a Gin adventure since book 7, Widow’s Web but mind you I have the whole series on audio because I love how Fortgang performances Estep’s writing especially her voice for Finn so I decided to wait for the audio. I loved slipping back into this world and characters via Fortgang’s delivery. **Series Spoiler Head** I was so excited at the end of the previous installment when it was apparent that we were going to get some long overdue details about a character I’ve been wondering about since the first book in the series, Spider’s Bite. Who is Finn’s mother? What happen to her? Was she and Fletcher married? […]

Ty and Zane get invited to be a part of Duce’s (Ty’s brother) wedding. It’s taking place in Scotland and if you’re a fan of the series you know that these guys can’t go on a vacation without murder and mayhem happening. Ty and Zane on a rug, in front of a fire, in a castle in Scotland. OH. MY. LAWD! I love that Nick and Kelly came along for the ride in Ball & Chain. They are Ty and Zane 2.0. The banter between the group is great. I was laughing so much while I listened. J. F. Harding does a wonderful job with the narration. Having mostly a male cast of characters, Harding has no problem making each of them […]

Ty and Zane head to the Big Easy for Touch & Geaux but it’s anything but easy! If you are holding off on trying the Cut & Run because you’re not sure if M/M is your thing. STOP holding off! This series is one of the best romances out there. It has not just one hot alpha hero but two and they are so fun to spend time with. They are both damaged by their pasts and we get some insight into both Ty and Zane’s past relationships and a great moment that shows these two were destined to be together. It can’t be a Ty and Zane adventure without one or both of them in danger. While in NOLA the two with Ty’s Marine […]
