Ain’t She Sweet by Marie Force

Ain’t She Sweet by Marie Force

I’ve enjoyed every book in the Green Mountain Series. It’s somewhere between traditional contemporary romance and the newer, more realistic contemporary romance.  The setting is a small town in Vermont with limited to no cell phone service.  It’s close enough to New York and Boston to draw in elements of them.  The romances have been happening to the ten children in the Abbott family. Marie Force has managed to use some traditional tropes without being cliché. There are shades and layers to make the “trope” more realistic.  There has been insta-love, friends to lovers, and unrequited love, for example.  In particular, unrequited love has been used with Megan, Hunter, Ella and Tyler, in various degrees and interesting ways.  It’s something so relatable; […]

Gotta Love Dennis Mira! Brotherhood in Death by J. D. Robb

Gotta Love Dennis Mira! Brotherhood in Death by J. D. Robb

This case becomes personal to Eve Dallas when she’s asked by Charlotte Mira to look into husband Dennis’ assault and search for his missing cousin. What begins as an unofficial missing persons case for Eve, explodes into something much more sinister.   I loved how this case evolved, with classic Eve Dallas investigating where she’s relying on those extraordinary instincts and procedurals. It makes a huge difference in my enjoyment to be able to follow the clues as she’s hunting them down and get the big reveals as she discovers them. The teams’ all there and we continue to get more about the unit’s dynamics as a group.   But what really makes this story is the deepening relationship between Dennis Mira and […]

Shadow’s End by Thea Harrison

I love the Elder races series, but this book didn’t build feelings as much as some other installments.  I am trying to understand why, and explain it without spoilers.   I did feel, but it was more like confused and unhappy. There were characters I loved.  A sexy romance was woven throughout the book.  There were battles and a mystery / problem to be solved.  I enjoyed the bits of humor, too.  Shadow’s End had everything to make a great book. But something didn’t quite work for me.  My best guess is the answer lies in timing.  Things happened in odd ways and timing of events was critical.  It was important to the story but I disliked it.  Somewhat I didn’t believe it.  Perhaps it was […]

It’s Only Love by Marie Force

It’s Only Love by Marie Force

I really enjoy this series with its big family, romance and small town setting.  The couple in this book have known each other most of their lives.  Ella has always loved Gavin.  He is older and has been less than available to her.   Both of them have their own stubborn views and that’s what stands in the way of their being a couple.  It would be kind of ridiculous but we all need to have our beliefs and values.  Even if they are WRONG. Really that is not my gripe, it is when they try to tell themselves how to feel.  A person can’t change how they feel, only their actions and reactions can be controlled. At one point, Ella tries to tell herself […]

It’s Fantasy! Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts

Sasha Riggs lives a lonely, solitary life as a painter in the mountains of North Carolina. When she becomes plagued by disturbing dreams that manifests into her art, she decides to give into the pull and ends up in Corfu, Greece. From there, she meets five people who will become part of her destiny, one of whom, Bran Killian, will mean much more.   I loved the mythology of this story, which forms the foundation for the tale. The quest is for three stars created many years before by three goddesses of light. They must find and reunite them before a powerful and evil dark goddess does so. Each of the six has unique gifts that are slowly revealed, adding a bit of […]

Fear the Dark by Kay Hooper

Fear the Dark by Kay Hooper

I started reading these books as mysteries but I loved the paranormal elements.  There are psychics, mediums, clairevoyants, telepaths and empaths, etc. These are my FAVORITE paranormal stories plus maybe magic.  The earlier books also normally had a romance, which added another good element. I enjoyed Fear the Dark more than the last few books in the series.   The characters and the mystery held my attention.  Some of the latest books, including this one, do not really have a romance.   One of the main characters, besides our FBI team, is the sheriff of the town, Jonah.  I liked him and it developed that he had some abilities in addition to being a really good cop.   I’m sure there is an earlier book where […]

Joint Review: All I Want by Jill Shalvis

Joint Review: All I Want by Jill Shalvis

Anne’s Review If you are in the mood for romance, look no further than Jill Shalvis.  She’s my go-to romance author.  Her books always have funny, sexy and endearing characters in a way I now expect and find a comfort. (My first ever blog review was a book in this series which remains an all-time favorite.)   This story continues with the new family brought into the series with the oldest sister of the new vet, Wyatt.  Zoe is so likeable.  She is tough, hard-working and real.  She fights for everyone but herself it seems. Zoe’s so competent, except when she isn’t.  I love her off kilter when Parker flirts with her.  Her rescue dog, Oreo, was abused and doesn’t like men,.. except. Parker feels […]

Energized by Mary Behre

Energized by Mary Behre

Energized is the third in the Tidewater series. The series focuses on three sisters who were separated when their mother died. Each book looks at one sister, her unique talents and her romance. The talents are those of the “mind” which is my favorite kind of supernatural. Their men have military and / or law enforcement backgrounds. I thought Energized would be about the younger sister finding the two older sisters who have already reconnected with each other. It was but it felt like the more primary storyline was the romance and a murder mystery. Since I thought Niall was an idiot at the beginning and then did a bit of a 180, I didn’t like him very much. He didn’t seem to have any […]
