Just in case you have not noticed this is the 7th book in the series. So there WILL BE series SPOILER below. First Impression: If it wasn’t for the last quarter of the book it would have gotten a C- rating. Favorite Line/Quote: “But he’s Rachel Candy!” “Five trolls in a dra-a-a-a-ag,’ the four-inch man sang from my shoulder. ‘Four purple condoms, three French ticklers, two horny vamps and a succubus in the snow.”  “…Everyone had to eat, but eating people wasn’t polite.”   The Narration: I’m so glad that Marguerite Gavin is back as the narrator!!! She is Rachel Morgan. NO ONE can replace her. What I liked: (SPOILER ahead) That last part of the book really brought it around for me. After reading For a Few More […]

Where oh where was Marguerite Gavin?! I missed her narration for The Outlaw Demon Wails. Gigi Bermingham is no Marguerite Gavin.  Gigi got on my nerves, her pronouncing of Piscary’s name was wrong and distracting. She pronounced it like PISScary where Gavin pronounces as PAscary.  And her pronunciation of ley line as LEE line instead of LAY line bugged the crap out of me. She didn’t do Jenks’ voice any justice and she didn’t change her voice enough for each character. I’m glad she only narrates one of the books in the series, if I had heard her narration before Marguerite’s I would have not continued the series on audio. I didn’t enjoy her narration of this book and I can’t see me enjoying her narration job […]

All I Want for Christmas is a Vampire is a fun and sexy paranormal listen. The narrator, Coleen Marlo did a pretty good job with the narration but I found her accents for the male character slip from time to time. A Scottish brogue would change to something that sounded Russian then back to Scottish. And I didn’t care for her voice for Phineas I thought it was cheesy and a little racist or stereotyping of a black man, which changed my narration rating from a B to a B-. I think this book/series would be a great fit for Robert Petkoff, who narrates Kresely Cole’s IAD series. If he had narrated I could easily see my rating for the narration go to an A. All I Want […]

First Impression: Well that was anti-climatic and not the snob fest I was warned it would be. Favorite Line/Quote: “I don’t play well with others and I run with loaded guns.” “That’s my girl… “  “You call me your girl one more time and I’m going to turn your gonads into plums and make jam with them.” The Narration: Gavin has earned a place on my favorite narrator list with her work on The Hollows series. She is Rachel Morgan. I’ve already downloaded the next audio from the library but I’m a little worried since it has a different narrator. What I liked: I liked that one of the big bads was taken out this time around. Too bad two of them wasn’t. But there has […]

First Thought Gage is yummy! I liked listening to a book from a male character’s POV. Why I Listened I’m trying to give male narrators another chance and decide to go Angel’s Ink since I liked the sample of Michael Urie’s narration. I enjoyed Urie’s voice for the main character, Gage. His reading and Cage voice reminded me a lot of Kiefer Sutherland but his voices for other characters had me laughing until I go use to them. Gideon sounded like he should be saying “I’m Batman” the way Christian Bale says it and his female voice for Trixie sounded like a stereotype of a gay guy. Then there was the voice for Brox, the troll. He sound like Sylvester Stallone. But as I got […]

Dual Review: Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost

Jennifer’s Thoughts: I’ve been a fan of Vlad ever since he step on to the pages of the third Night Huntress book, At Grave’s End. I was so happy when Frost announced that he would have his own spin-off series (looks like 3 books in all). After the last two Cat & Bones books being a little on the slow side for me I was ready to read about Vlad and he did not disappoint. Vlad is the boogie man of the vamp world so no wonder he is the cocky bastard that he is but he has the swagger and power to back it up. Don’t make the mistake of calling him Dracula, you just might find yourself bursting into flames. Speaking of flames, I […]
