The Coincidence of Coconut Cake by Amy E. Reichert

The Coincidence of Coconut Cake by Amy E. Reichert

read it, track reviews are a way  to track books for my reading challenges and they will be super short.   The Coincidence of Coconut Cake is my first novel by Reichert and my first time listening to C.S.E Cooney. Both firsts was met with enjoyment. Coconut Cake is a story about a chef down on her luck both in her love life and with her business. While the novel is not marketed as a romance it has one in it between the chef, Lou and Al. Think of the movie You’ve Got Mail where the couple meets, becomes friends then lovers but before they can get their HEA they have to deal with who they really are to each other. Reichert services up sweet romance and […]

It’s been almost a year since John Devlin walked away from Amelia Gray to see to his ailing grandfather and then cutoff all communication. Amelia is nursing a broken heart and has accepted a restoration assignment in Ascension, South Carolina to get her out of Charleston for a few months. One day while working in the Seven Gates Cemetery, she is “called” into the adjacent forest and discovers a circled of twelve mortsafes and sees a pair of hands gripping the grates. It’s the body of a young woman and it’s recent. Detective Lucien Kendrick is assigned to the case and he and Amelia have an immediate connection…one she’s not sure is kindred, lust or something else.   I’d never heard of a mortsafe […]

I’m enjoying the audios in the Black Knights Inc series.  Abby Craden is an easy listen. I do feel as though the character’s voices are running together but this is because there are certain expressions, slang, the author uses for multiple characters. Now those who are together, the guys, it makes some sense.  But the women don’t all know each other before they “join” the group or even after, so it bugs me when they use it.. Eve is Becky’s best friend and was involved with her brother, Bill, when she was young. She certainly has not had things too easy in an emotional sense, but she is learning and has come into her own. She wants to see if she can start fresh with […]

Audio Review: Three Wishes by Liane Moriarty

Audio Review: Three Wishes by Liane Moriarty

This is the story of the Kettle sisters, Gemma, Lyn and Cat, 33-years old triplets (two are identical twins) and a look at their lives at a pivotal moment in time. It’s told in each of their voices, transitioning from past to present as they each face a critical issue. The dynamics of how they interact with each other is also an important aspect of their story.   I very much enjoyed this story as the character development was outstanding. I felt I truly knew each sister and how they would behave at every juncture. The transitions to the past were timely as they aptly provided context for the three women’s present characterizations. The twists in their stories, especially Gemma’s, were stunning, catching […]

This is the fourth in The Black Knights Inc. series  and the third I’ve listened to audio.  I continue to enjoy Abby Craden’s narration. For Rock, she did a bayou accent with French intermingled. I don’t know if it was authentic but it was fun. The men all sound different but to me, the women sound mostly the same. It doesn’t bother me though. Thrill Ride was suspenseful and the mystery and action was more exciting to me than the romance. The Black Knights used more tech in this one which pleased me. I like seeing all the guys working together, planning strategies and using their talents. Rock has some mad skills in staying lost. Rock and […]

This is the third in The Black Knights Inc. series  and the second I’ve listened to audio.  Rev It Up is my favorite so far. Perhaps, because I know the characters and world better. The stories don’t include very much about motorcycles, not really.  Other than flashbacks, there isn’t much about their missions. The stories are the romance and happenings in their day-to-day lives or the blow back of missions onto personal lives.. The bad guys from a previous operation are out to kill them. It’s personal. So the BKI team is on alert. They need to catch the bad guys before they kill any of their own. I appreciate their caution and intelligence; they don’t make too many mistakes. Jake has just […]

Of Silk and Steam brings the events that has been building since book 1, Kiss of Steel are finally brought to a close. Bec McMaster writes great characters and her couples are always fun to see go through their issues to get to their HEA. This time she brings us a couple that are frenemies of a sort. Mina does not like Leo Barrons because his father killed her father. Yeah, that’s going to be a big issue to get over in order for them to get friendly with each other. Leo has wanted Mina for his own for a few years and has been patient in his “chase” of her. Of course it pays off and seeing Leo melt Mina’s chilly exterior was both fun […]
