Hector Dean is shaved, tattooed, and totally ripped—and he has a deadly secret. He is a walking weapon, capable of killing with a single brush of his fingertips. Little wonder he’s determined to remain on his own. But Noelle Tremain is a temptation like no other. She is beautiful and rich, with a party girl smile that hides a shocking vulnerability, and from the beginning his sizzling attraction to her is undeniable. For the first time, his stone-cold resistance is tested. But to be with her, he risks destroying her.

When a wealthy businessman is murdered in New Chicago’s seediest district, the two are partnered, and there’s no escaping what they both want: each other. Yet neither Hector nor Noelle knows what to fear more—the killer case, or their own lethal desires. . .

First Thought

Dark Taste of Rapture left me wanting more of this world!

the romance

Noelle and Hector is a great couple. Both are strong and  vulnerable. Noelle is cocky and keeps people at arm’s length with her snark and dumb, rich girl act. But Hector sees right through it. The two can’t stay away from each other at first until Hector shuts their attraction down by telling Noelle not to ever speak to him again.

Hector, like Noelle, keeps people from getting close to him. But for a different reason. He can kill with just one touch if his emotions are out of control. Hector doesn’t touch anyone and all he wants to do is touch Noelle, all over.

Noelle and Hector dance around each other until they can’t stay away. They share their fears and secrets and try to make a relationship work but of course it’s a bumpy ride. Neither of them know what they’re doing. For all of Noelle’s flirting and big talk, she’s only been with two other guys and one didn’t really count. Hector has never been with a woman, well other than the hookers he used to get him off but he’s a virgin where it counts because of his dangerous arms.

In the end Noelle and Hector get their HEA and it was a wild ride to the end.

the narration

With Dark Taste of Rapture seeming to be the last book in the Alien Huntress series there was a narrator change.  All the other books were narrated by one of my favorite narrators, Justin Eyre. She did a great job with the series. When I saw that Sebastian York was the narrator for Dark Taste of Rapture I was surprised and happy.

Sebastian has a smooth and sensual voice and because of that he doesn’t deliver Noelle’s voice well but only because he has so much bass in his voice. He does pull off her snark very well. Sebastian is prefect for snarky and assholish (is that a word?) characters (Drew Evans of Emma Chase’s Tangled series) Honestly I’ve never listened to a narrator that has so much swagger in their voice that Sebastian convenes.  I picture him recording audio books in a candlelit room wearing a robe with a glass of a expensive whisky in hand and smoking a cigar with beautiful women feeding him grapes. Yeah in my mind Sebastian York is the Hugh Hefner of narrators. LOL

final thought

The ride is over, for now I hope. Come on Showalter, Dallas needs a book!!  But there is the spin off series, Otherworld Assassin. Which I will be listening to soon.

First Thought Gena Showalter continues to entertain me with her sexy aliens. the writing I love that Showalter throws in a few hits at Kresley Cole’s IAD series in Ecstasy in Darkness. She also did it in the previous novella, Tempt Me Eternally.  But it’s, even more, fitting, this time, around since the heroine, Ava and her BFF Noelle act much like Cole’s Valkyries. Showalter’s writing is well around with action sequences to go with her sexy charged romp scenes. She also brings humor and snark to the table as well. the world I love the world in the Alien Huntress series. Showalter explains that all the supes in this world are actually aliens from different worlds and dimensions. There’s some new (at least to […]

Originally published in DEEP KISS OF WINTER along with Untouchable (Immortals After Dark #8) by Kresley Cole. First let me say that TEMPT ME ETERNALLY is labeled as 4.5 in the Alien Huntress series but it really should be labeled as 3.5 since the story takes place before the events in book 4, SEDUCE THE DARKNESS. You could read it in either order but I think it you would get more out of it if you read it before SEDUCE THE DARKNESS since Aleaha and Breean are already a couple in SEDUCE. Plus you give background on Aleaha’s character that will help you out in SEDUCE. TEMPT ME ETERNALLY is almost novel length and has the same punch as a full length novel. I […]

SEDUCE THE DARKNESS is my favorite in Gena Showalter’s Alien Huntress series! And it’s mostly do in part to the hero, Devyn. He’s a total man whore and full of himself. Devyn is both sexy and fun. He had a repressived childhood, where sex and the body was thought of as dirty and vile. But Devyn has escaped that life and he is making up for lost time with the ladies. He loves to “collect” women of different species and has a rule to not screw the same species twice. Until he meets Bride. Bride is a vampire living alone and in hiding. She’s lived long enough to know that she can’t let people know what she is are they would hunt and kill […]

Audio Review: Savor Me Slowly by Gena Showalter

Savor Me Slowly is the third book in Gena Showalter’s sexy series about Alien Huntresses. I need to state up front that Savor Me Slowly is just as steamy as the previous two books but because the hero’s name is Jaxon (the same as my son but spelled different) I had a hard time finding him sexy. LOL Every time the heroine called out his name it took me out of the moment. But from that little personal problem aside I enjoyed Savor Me Slowly. Jaxon and Mishka meet while he is being tortured at the hands of an alien race and it looks like Mishka is on their side and is about to torture him as well but in a way he might not […]

Gena Showalter has built an interesting and sultry world with her Alien Huntress series and I enjoyed returning to it in the 2nd installment, Enslave Me Sweetly. While I enjoyed the 1st book and I really liked one even more. Why? The heroine and hero. I found Eden and Lucius a hotter and more likable couple. Eden is an otherworlder, an alien. After her parents die when she was young, Eden has been raised by her now boss, Michael who is human. Eden is a rare breed of alien where she has golden skin and hair. Humans have hunted her kind in order to skin them and sale their hair and skin because of the gold that’s in it. Lucius is a human that is partnered […]

First Impression: Smoking sex with a hot alien. Win! The Narration: Justine Eyre narration of Awaken Me Darkly is equal parts lulling and sex phone operator. She has a silky deep voice that works well for both the female and male characters. It’s hard for a female narrator to pull the male voices off well sometimes but Eyre does a great job and she still manages to make the females sound light and feminine. What I liked: Showalter does a great job at setting up this world where we are in the future and have aliens of different species living among the humans. Mia the main character is a kick ass chick that you would see in an Urban Fantasy series. Kyrin is not quite an alpha male […]
