High Stakes is a story featuring Merit’s vampire best friend and fellow protector of the Cadogan House, Lindsey. Lindsey gets a visit from her past life she lived during roaring 20s in the alcohol prohibition. Lindsey was a free loving flipper gal in the middle of mobster gang warfare in New York. It’s great to see some of Lindsey’s past since she is very closed mouth about her vampire youth and she is very afraid to commit to Luc, the hunky cowboy vampire of Cadogan House. While High Stakes is a very short read it was satisfying to see Luc and Lindsey get closer in their “non-relationship” with a little danger and a hot and emotional smexy scene. Fans of the Chicagoland Vampires series will […]

Review: Biting Bad by Chloe Neill

Review: Biting Bad by Chloe Neill

Biting Bad is the 8th book in the Chicagoland Vampires series you can expect a few series spoilers. If you are not up to date you may want to come back later to read my review. Chloe Neill took the series on a detour, some would even say a rocky detour, but with Biting Bad she got us back on the fast lane to awesomeness. Biting Bad is more like the earlier books. The ones that made me fall in love with the series. As with a lot of series after a while there’s a slow point, a book that stands out as the not-so-great-one. For me that was Biting Cold (#6). Things started getting back on track with House Rules but Biting Bad is […]

Review: House Rules by Chloe Neill

Review: House Rules by Chloe Neill

This is book 7 in a series, so don’t be surprised if I talk about plots in earlier books. If you’re not update on the series you may want to come back and read my review once you’ve read House Rules.    I think Chloe Neill has finally brought the series back around to where I can be excited about it again.   SPOILER I’m going to be honest… I’ve not been in love with Chicagoland since Drink Deep. No, I did not “die” after Hard Bitten ending with Ethan’s death. I don’t mind a main character dying if it adds to the over all plot of the series. I felt like his death was done well and had meaning. I had a little hard time with Ethan […]

Review: Twice Bitten by Chloe Neill

Merit, now as one with her vampire self, is becoming more formidable. After her last showdown with Celine she knows she’s got her work cut out for her but Merit’s brain is still her strongest asset. Nick Breckenridge’s debacle has led to his Alpha leader, Gabriel Keene, asking for her help and protection as he prepares for the shifters convening in Chicago. Ethan’s helping with her combat training sessions, which are starting to look like foreplay. This book was the most exciting, and frustrating, so far. There’s mistrust between the vampires, the shifters are at odds with each other about whether to stay and support the brewing unrest between the humans and the vampires and someone’s trying to kill Gabriel. Merit’s relationship with Morgan deteriorated […]

Merit finally makes the move into Cadogan House and attempts to adapt to the vampire world and those she’s been charged to protect as Sentinel. The new crisis involves the family of her old boyfriend, Nick Breckenridge, whose brother Jamie is rumored to be developing a story about suspected vampire raves. Merit has to reenter her family’s high society world to find a way to stop this before it gets started, disrupting the strange détente the vamps have achieved with humans. She’s also continuing to see Morgan, the Master of the Navarre House, at his demand and Ethan’s encouragement, even as she’s still trying to figure out her feelings for Ethan. Ethan continues to send mixed signals about his feelings for Merit. One minute he’s […]

Review: Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill

Merit was a pretty contented graduate student whose life changed after one bite. She was attacked by a vampire one evening on her college campus. The vampire was interrupted before he could finish her off, chased away by none other than Ethan Sullivan, the Master vampire of Cadogan House. His only way to save her was to turn her and that decision changed her life forever. This was an interesting story and good start to what promises to be an intriguing series. Merit’s relationships expand and change significantly as a result of her now being a vampire. The first significant change is that she can no longer continue her graduate studies (turns out the colleges have a rule) so Merit has to come to terms […]

***If you are not update on the series there will be some spoilers in this review.*** As much as I love this series I had a bit of trouble getting into Biting Cold. I was over the Mallory story before it even got started. I was having Willow (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) flashbacks but minus the fact that Mallory didn’t flay someone. But I’m sure had she been given the time she would have. Another thing that put me off some was the fact that it took Merit and Ethan so long to have a true reunion. After all the heartache that Merit went through those months that Ethan was gone, and how he must have missed her. Yeah ok so they had an evil […]

Review: Drink Deep by Chloe Neill

My review of Drink Deep will be very short. Why? It’s a hard review to write without a MAJOR spoiler. So here we go. If you read the last book, Hard Bitten then you know the love/hate of the plot and the cliffhanger. I won’t say more for spoiler reasons. And with all that went on in HB I was nervous about reading Drink Deep so I put it off for a few months thinking that I would read it right before the next book, Biting Cold comes out in August. But I was in a reading funk and decided that Neill would be the perfect author to get me out of that funk. And I was right. Because Hard Bitten was such an awesome […]
