Manhattan’s It Girl, Natalie Grayson, has it all: she’s a hot exec at a leading advertising firm, known industry-wide for her challenging and edgy campaigns. She’s got a large circle of friends, a family that loves her dearly, and her dance card is always full with handsome eligible bachelors. What else could a modern gal-about-town wish for? The answer, of course, is...cheese.

Natalie’s favorite part of each week is spending Saturday morning at the Union Square Farmer’s Market, where she indulges her love of all things triple cream. Her favorite booth also indulges her love of all things handsome. Oscar Mendoza, owner of the Bailey Falls Creamery and purveyor of the finest artisanal cheeses the Hudson Valley has to offer, is tall, dark, mysterious, and a bit oblivious. Or so she thinks. But that doesn’t stop Natalie from fantasizing about the size of his, ahem, milk can.

Romance is churning, passion is burning, and something incredible is rising to the top. Could it be...love?

If it wasn’t for life getting it the way I would have finished Cream of the Crop in one sitting. I love getting my hands on an Alice Clayton book because I know I’m going to laugh my ass off reading it. Cream of the Crop delivered on the laughs and the holy shit hotness.

We met Natalie and Oscar in the first book of the Hudson Valley series, Nuts. Natalie is best friends of the heroine of Nuts and Oscar is a neighboring farmer to Leo the hero of Nuts. Natalie is a New Yorker living in Manhattan working as an ad executive at an advertising firm. She big city, secretly dreaming of living in the country one day. Oscar is the sexy dairy farmer that Natalie has been lusting after seeing him at the farmer’s market one Saturday.

Natalie is beautiful plus size woman who can get any man she wants. She has a catch and release system when it comes to men. After having a failed long-term relationship, Natalie keeps her love life casual. But when Oscar has her knocked off-balance she can’t figure out why this one guy gives her butterflies.

Oscar has been a mystery man ever since he moved to upstate New York in Bailey Falls. The small town is all abuzz about trying to figure out the quite, smoking dairy farmer that could easily grace the cover of magazines titled, Smoking Lumberjacks with Big Axes or Tattoo Bad Boys with Over Sized Butter Churns.

Oscar should grin more often. Because when he does, birds sing and angels weep. And holy shit, cows moo.

I knew going into Cream of the Crop I was going to enjoy seeing Nat and Oscar get their HEA. I was totally surprised by Natalie’s back story and the emotions it brought out while I was reading. If you’re looking for a romance that has humor, amazing chemistry between the H/h, fun secondary characters, cheese and cows then you need to pick up a copy of Cream of the Crop. You can easily read it as a stand alone but I highly recommend reading Nuts to get the full effect of setting and characters. I can’t wait to see what Alice Clayton has in store for the next Hudson Valley novel.

Alice Clayton worked in the cosmetics industry for over a decade before picking up a pen (read: laptop). She enjoys gardening but not weeding, baking but not cleaning up, and finally convinced her long-time boyfriend to marry her. And she finally got her Bernese Mountain Dog.

Nuts by Alice Clayton is everything a woman wants in her nuts, warm, salty and lickable. Grab a hand full today! Small town gal, Roxie couldn’t get out of her upstate New York hometown, Bailey Falls fast enough. So she left at eight-teen for California and a career as a chef. Roxie cooked for the bleached and plastic in California and when one client freaked out about her dinner being a couple of minutes late and her precious nightly coffee being messed up she fires Roxie and then has her blacklisted among the rich and bitchy. (Fun cameo by Jack and Grace from Alice Clayton’s Red Head series. I need to get back to that series and finish it.) So when Roxie’s flaky Mom pulls her back home […]
