Kate and the former Beast Lord Curran Lennart are finally making their relationship official. But there are some steep obstacles standing in the way of their walk to the altar…

Kate’s father, Roland, has kidnapped the demigod Saiman and is slowly bleeding him dry in his never-ending bid for power. A Witch Oracle has predicted that if Kate marries the man she loves, Atlanta will burn and she will lose him forever. And the only person Kate can ask for help is long dead.

The odds are impossible. The future is grim. But Kate Daniels has never been one to play by the rules…

Kate Daniels is my FAVORITE series by my FAVORITE authors and this is just another piece of evidence why. It starts with the characters. There are many and their depth and growth continues as does my love (or hate) for them. It’s not so black or white; there are shades of feelings about them, even about one character. They are just so comfortable and precious to me, with their complexities. Those layers provide a wealth of feelings.

Kate, I love your intelligence and spirit, your moral fiber and compassion. You are a better person than many will ever be. Magic Binds was set to be about your marriage to Curran. Of course, it is so much more. Curran was developed more, as well as Julie and Jim. Roland shows his true colors. Kate, being a true heroine, has developed a wide range of strange allies, even ones who don’t like her so much. And THAT is the hallmark of a true urban fantasy heroine.

Multiple little plots happen here along with the big action with Roland and the wedding. This is like real life. Just because one big event is in the forefront, the little things don’t just stop; the background is full of meals and cleaning and work and school, etc. This full picture is another fact in the authors’ ability to create amazing books.

Somehow, I got the idea this was the last book and I’m so happy it is not. There is so much more story here! The authors have committed to at least one more and there may also be books in the world featuring Julie, Derek, Roman or even Hugh.

About Ilona Andrews

“Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

They have co-authored two NYT and USAT bestselling series, the urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge and working on the next volumes for both.

Magic Stars by Ilona Andrews

Magic Stars by Ilona Andrews

KATE DANIELS FANS MUST READ MAGIC STARS!   I don’t know how to start this review without spoiling you guys. It was so good. So. Good. I’ve had my head in textbooks the last few weeks so I didn’t know that Magic Stars was even a thing. Then I see Jen over at Red Hot Books talking about it on Twitter. When I found out that story was from Derek’s POV and it had Julie in it too, I was like . . . Derek has had a rough life, he had to kill his father after he turned loup. But Curran saved and trained him. Then Derek worked for Jim as a spy of sorts because he was so handsome, […]

If you’re not up to date on the Kate Daniels series there might be spoilers ahead for the series but none for Magic Shifts. You can take Beast Lord out of the Pack but you can’t keep the Pack away from the Beast Lord or the Consort. I love how Kate and Curran can’t get away from the Pack even by moving to the suburbs. Pack members keep popping up when Kate least expects them and how she reacts is priceless. For most of the series, Kate has been trying to learn the rules of being part of the Pack and living with them. Now that she and Curran are no longer living in the Keep, it’s Curran’s turn to learn what it means to […]

I admit, I’m biased as the Kate Daniels series is my FAVORITE.  But c’mon, it’s full of awesome, and has everything one needs in a great book.  There are characters who feel real, adventures and battles, mysteries and humor, a family and romance. There is not much I can say that has not been said before and without total gushing and awed devotion. Everyone on Earth should have been able to hear the screams of excitement when I got my copy of Magic Shifts (or anything by Ilona Andrews). The humor is really important to me.  I like the kind of style displayed in the giggle worthy quote. It’s based on knowledge and acceptance of the characters, who they are and their foibles.  Ghastek was brief in […]

Very Satisfying! Magic Steals by Ilona Andrews

Very Satisfying! Magic Steals by Ilona Andrews

MAGIC STEALS is Jim and Dali’s story and is told through Dali’s POV. Imagine a 100 lbs tigershifter that gets sick at the smell of blood and is a veteran. That would be Dali, the blind tigershifter that loves racing her cars no matter how many she wrecks. Jim is a werejaguar and acts as the Pack’s Chief of Security. As Dali puts it, Jim is a badass who wrote a book for badasses on how to be a badder badass. Dali has very low self-esteem (but is not whiny!). She doesn’t see herself like those close to her do and it’s heartwarming to see her realize that her mom and Jim see her as she should see herself. A strong and beautiful woman. There […]

So Much Build Up… Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews

So Much Build Up… Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews

3.5 stars? Yeah. I went into MAGIC BREAKS thinking it was going to be an adrenaline filled, bloody fast pace ride. But…I’ve never listened to a book in the Kate Daniels series where I wanted to speed it up because I thought a scene or two was really slow. The part where Kate was misplaced for a time. I thought it went on too long. I was bored. All that build up But other than that really slow moment in time and what I talked about in the above spoiler the book was great. But because of those to issues I had to give it a 3.5 rating instead of a 4. My favorite parts of the book was when Since MAGIC BREAKS reads as the […]

Audiobook Review: Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews

I’d heard so many positives about this series I was worried my expectations were too high and it would be a letdown. By the end of the book, that feeling wasn’t anywhere near my emotional state. Rather than talk about the details of the story, I’m focusing on the essence of it and certain elements that make this a standout book and series start. I’ll begin with the series namesake, Kate Daniels. She’s formidable as most UF heroines tend to be but in a very practical sense. Kate dresses for the part and you won’t find her in leathers or stiletto-heeled boots. Everything about her is calculated for success in life-threatening situations. She’s vulnerable, a bit cocky but not overly so. And, she’s still at […]

Audio Review: Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews

Another winning combination of Andrews and Raudam! Magic Rises is the 1st book in a while where I both loved it and hated it. I can’t tell you why I hated it without a major spoiler. So I’ll tell you about the love part. If you’ve read this series you know how awesome it is. It’s full of action, snark, great world building, some of the best characters and just a touch of smexy. Magic Rises had all of the above then some. After five books and one world book (Gunmetal Magic) the plots and characters are still fresh and entertaining. Kate and Curran is NO old married couple. They still have passion for each other. “Five minutes later, we were rolling around on the […]
