Angela Delvecchio has always dreamed of being an LCR field operative. As LCR’s main researcher, she’s helped rescue victims, but always from the sidelines. Until now. Last Chance Rescue has been asked to assist the authorities in apprehending a serial killer terrorizing London. Angela knows this is her time and her mission.

After the murder of his wife, Jake Mallory stopped believing in anything good. Now, as an operative for Last Chance Rescue, he’s found a new purpose but he’ll never let his guard down again. The beautiful and much too vulnerable Angela is a temptation like no other—one he dare not take. Hearing that she’s going to be an operative is a surprise, but Jake is stunned to learn her first assignment will be to bait and trap the Red Rose killer. Assigned to be her partner, Jake knows he wouldn’t have it any other way. He failed the last woman he cared about…he won’t fail Angela.

Angela thought going undercover as an exotic dancer would be the toughest part of the job, and Jake thought keeping his hands off his partner would be his biggest challenge. They were both wrong. Taught to expect the unexpected, Angela faces events she never anticipated and Jake must allow the unthinkable. Now it’s a fight for survival because evil has more than one face and to stay alive, death may be the only option.

Angela Delvecchio, LCRs über researcher and assistant, has long wanted to be an operative and over the years, underwent all the training to become one. Now that her circumstances have changed, she’s making the move. Operative Jake Mallory isn’t too pleased about her first assignment. They’ve enjoyed a flirty relationship until now when they’ll be partnered to catch a dangerous serial killer. She wants more, him…not so much.

We’ve not known much about Angela until this story so learning her history was interesting. The heroines in this series often face some tough treatment and she’s no different. Her undercover assignment is provocative and challenges her relationship with Jake. It was interesting getting an insider’s view of exotic dancing, too. I enjoyed the op and all the drama associated with Angela’s participation.

The romance was the weak spot as I really don’t like the “I’m afraid of committing again” trope. Fortunately it wasn’t protracted and I really liked Jake and Angela.

I hate seeing this wonderful series end but am looking forward to what’s next with the spinoff. I enjoyed this story and the ending just kindled the fire.

About Christy Reece

Growing up in a tiny Alabama community boasting only one stop sign and a gas station gave Christy ample opportunity to create daring adventures in her head. When she wasn’t thinking of her story characters, Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys kept her entertained and out of trouble. Later came the chills of Stephen King and the thrills of John Grisham, but the romance genre always held a strong place in her heart. After years of talking to the characters in her head, she finally decided to write the stories they had been telling her. Now, she and her characters couldn’t be happier.

Christy lives in Alabama with her husband, five incredibly cute but precocious canines, and one very shy turtle.

Quick summary Jared Livingston was married and working as Kane Enterprises’ lead investigator in his last major appearance. He’s now divorced, an LCR operative and almost nothing like the character we knew from that story. He’s remote and has a reputation for taking significant risks but doesn’t have relationships with anyone aside from his existing one with Lucas Kane. Mia Ryker runs a rescue operation in Chicago and reaches out to LCR when she encounters an infant abduction case that seems to connect with one of theirs. She’s teamed with Jared and it’s an unlikely but brilliant match.   What I liked Mia is now one of my favorite heroines and only she could bring down the cold and stoic Jared. She’s natural […]

Quick summary Jamie Kendrick was rescued from the hell known as Stanford Reddington’s world by LCR. Dylan Savage was the operative that actually located and removed her the night of the rescue. That night, a permanent unspoken bond was created between the two of them, one he was determined to resist and one she was determined to seal.   What I enjoyed I’ve looked forward to Jamie’s story since she emerged in the series. Her history was both intriguing and horrific. Dylan also was appealing as I recalled his thoughts at the moment he rescued her in Spain. It affected him deeply and profoundly. I really liked both of them as she is brave, courageous and resourceful and he is an incredible operative, […]

Former Houston Detective Seth Cavanaugh has to suddenly and brutally sever his relationship with FBI Agent Honor Stone in order to protect her. Now it’s five years later and she’s an LCR operative and he needs their help in finding his niece who’s disappeared. They’re thrown together for the mission and both are struggling with their unresolved feelings.   I loved these two characters and how they dealt with each other when they were forced to reconnect. Theirs was a mature relationship and neither shied away from being honest and forthright about their feelings…no silly, drawn out drama…just two people struggling to cope and communicate while on the job.   The case was unusual in that it focused on a delusional and dangerous […]

I couldn’t wait to start this book because I found McKenna to be fascinating in No Chance. It definitely didn’t disappoint. Quick summary It was speculated that McKenna had a seriously troubling backstory and seemed to be on the run. Everyone’s instincts were correct but they couldn’t have imagined how tragic her story really is. When she rescued Lucas Kane after having been kidnapped by Victor Lymes, he was determined to find this woman who he never could get out of his head. He makes it his mission to track her down to thank her and, maybe, just maybe, clear his mind of the woman who they called Ghost.   What I loved about this story Everything. It begins with the reveal of just […]

SPOILER ALERT! Stop here if you haven’t read Run to Me A bit of background Cole Mathison first appeared in Run to Me when he was discovered alive following a raid of evil David Rosemount’s lab. He was Rosemount’s personal killing machine and accidentally killed a man they’d kidnapped for ransom. That man was David Fairchild.   Fast forward Cole has healed and has resumed his role as an operative for Last Chance Rescue. It’s his personal mission to secretly stand guard over Fairchild’s widow, Keeley and 4-year old twin daughters but the one time he leaves to help out on another case, the twins are abducted. Cole self appoints himself onto the case to find the missing children.   What I enjoyed Just giving […]

Gabe Maddox married Skylar James eight years ago and he hasn’t seen her since. She’s now been abducted and LCR is engaged to rescue her and Gabe’s point man for the operation.   We finally get the story behind Gabe’s marriage, which slowly unfolds throughout most of the book. I enjoyed the flashback device used to relate the details, sometimes from each of their points of view. The kidnappers are heinous and, as is typical of this series, the experiences are really tough, gritty and frightening. It made for many exciting and tense moments.   I loved Skylar and was happy Gabe had a formidable partner. He, however, drove me nuts with his stubbornness. There was a pretty good balance between the suspense […]

Quick SummaryShea Monroe goes deep undercover, so deep her friends and associates at Last Chance Rescue don’t even know. She’s trying to get the creep who killed her husband, Cole, but she what gets into is deep trouble. Ethan Bishop comes out of retirement to rescue her and finds anything but a willing hostage.   The mission The target of Shea’s mission is a sleazy rat named Donald Rosemount who, among many other distasteful things, is a professional kidnapper. How he goes about recruiting help is even worse than the abductions. Getting Shea from his clutches is the least of Ethan’s worries. Saving her from herself after what Rosemount did to her is a huge challenge.   What really works Ethan had a history […]
