Two Men Are One Too Many . . .

Tara has a thousand good reasons not to return to the little coastal town of Lucky Harbor, Washington. Yet with her life doing a major crash-and-burn, anywhere away from her unfulfilled dreams and sexy ex-husband will do. As Tara helps her two sisters get their newly renovated inn up and running, she finally has a chance to get things under control and come up with a new plan for her life.

But a certain tanned, green-eyed sailor has his own ideas, such as keeping Tara hot, bothered . . . and in his bed. And when her ex wants Tara back, three is a crowd she can't control-especially when her deepest secret reappears out of the blue. Now Tara must confront her past and discover what she really wants. If she's lucky, she might just find that everything her heart desires is right here in Lucky Harbor.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Tara as the heroine in The Sweetest Thing. She was over the top stereotype for a Southern (I’m really picky when it comes to southern characters since I’m a southern myself) in Simply Irresistible but the “Steel Magnolia” shtick was toned down. (I don’t think Steel Magnolia when the person is from Texas. Georgia maybe.)

The Sweetest Thing is a great second chance romance between Tara and Ford who were teenage sweethearts the summer she visited her mom in Lucky Harbor. I thought there was going to be a secret baby theme, but that was not the case. Ford and Tara’s story was fun, sexy and sweet.

The issue I had with Simply Irresistible with the long pauses in narration must have been a production thing because they were not present this time around. I think Celeste Ciulla delivered a great performance for The Sweetest Thing. I wasn’t crazy about her voice for Chloe, the youngest sister so I’m kind of glad her book, Head Over Heelswhich is next in the series has a different narrator. Here’s hoping she does a good job.

I can’t wait to read/listen to more books in the series.

I’ve read or listen to most of Shalvis current books and been meaning visit her backlist. Lucky Harbor series is a long one, but I’ve been told that it’s set up in threes. I figured I could tack it in behind other series by reading three at a time. My library has all the books, some in ebook and others in audio, but then I saw a few of the titles offered through the new Audible Romance program. I also decided to try the title on audio because I’ve never listened to Celeste Ciulla narration work.  She reminded me of one of favorite narrators, Marguerite Gavin. For the most part I enjoyed the narration, but there was a lot of “dead air”. By that I mean […]

Chloe Thompson is 8 1/2 months pregnant and she’s terribly insecure. Sawyer is going away for two weeks on a special assignment for the DEA and she wonders if her pregnancy hormones have pushed him away. This was a bittersweet moment as it’s the end of the series. It was sort of fitting to finish with Chloe and Sawyer as she was the most free spirited and restless of all the women featured in the series. She reflects on her life in Lucky Harbor and her relationship with Sawyer and comes full circle as her baby is ready to be born. It was a perfect ending as so many of the people from every story had a reason to be here or be mentioned. Loved […]

I can’t believe the series is ending! Oh, but it’s going out in fine style with Callie and Tanner’s story.   Quick summary Callie Sharpe returns to Lucky Harbor to check up on her grandmother, Lucille, the town’s leading gossip and social media matchmaker. She’s worried she might not have all her mental ducks lined up properly. Former Navy SEAL Tanner Riggs returned to the town with his partners to start up Lucky Harbor Charters. Neither of them have “lucked” out in romance but a chance encounter at the bakery sets a steamy relationship in motion.   Just a bit of background See, Callie had a HUGE crush on Tanner in high school. He was a football hero, gorgeous and a bad a$$. But, nerdy […]

Quick summary Becca Thorpe is starting over and lands in Lucky Harbor. She doesn’t have a job yet but has a place in a converted warehouse apartment that just happens to be near Sam Brody’s business, Lucky Harbor Charters. He comes to her rescue a couple of times and she comes to his when it becomes obvious he needs help with managing the office demands of the company.   The conflicts Becca’s a talented musician who suffers from panic attacks and some issues from her past. Sam is pretty jaded when it comes to romance and doesn’t think mixing business and pleasure is a good idea. Even friends with benefits has its issues.   What I liked Becca and Sam. She’s delightful with a sunny […]

Review: Once in a Lifetime by Jill Shalvis

I thought this book would be the first in this series that I wasn’t going to love. Aubrey Wellington just didn’t appeal to me…think mean girl grown up. Silly me, I should have trusted Jill Shalvis. Aubrey takes us with her as she travels down her road to redemption. It was fascinating to learn what lay beneath that beautiful and bitchy veneer and feel compassion for her. Her journey was self-revealing, humbling and painful. Wrapping all of this around her surprising relationship with the sexy and brooding Ben McDaniel just tied the perfect bow on the story. He’s also finding his way following the death of his wife five tears ago, awakening from the self-imposed exile to the most dangerous regions of the world. Ben […]
